RSS feed?
RSS feed?
I usually use a newsreader to browse my feeds, and forums like After the Bar Closes and the Freethought and Rationalism board have feeds for posts. I couldn't find one here. Is there one or plans to put one in?
ETA - Or am I just missing it? Forgot to leave that in, even if it was obviously a choice.

Re: RSS feed?
I have - I think - enabled an Atom feed. Try it out and let me know if it works.
Re: RSS feed?
Thanks - I'm trying the main Slyme Pit feed, which should get everything (if it works the same as others I've been on). So far it seems to work.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback.Badger3k wrote:Thanks - I'm trying the main Slyme Pit feed, which should get everything (if it works the same as others I've been on). So far it seems to work.
Given the site has been up less than 24 hours, I'm inordinately proud of the requests I've been able to fill so far :-)
Re: RSS feed?
Can someone give me an example URL to one of the feeds or the main feed? I tried using some of the examples here:
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/faq-phpbb-atom-feeds/
without success. http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/feed.php seems to work but there aren't any posts coming up.

Re: RSS feed?
I'm going to point you to Badger3K for that - I don't use RSS, and it appears to work for him/her...
Re: RSS feed?
Lsuoma, the feeds do not appear to be updating in my Google Reader. Could you please apply these steps to see if this can be fixed?
http://kryostorm.blogspot.com/2011/07/p ... eader.html
Parge:
Main feed URL: http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/feed.php
New topics feed URL: http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/feed.php?mode=topics
Active topics feed URL: http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/feed.php? ... ics_active
I know that Firefox can automatically detect feeds, but I don't know about other browsers.

Re: RSS feed?
Ok. Now it's working. Thanks for the links Evan!
Re: RSS feed?
Cool. I saw the google bot logged in earlier and assumed that it had been fixed.

You're welcome, Parge.Parge wrote:Ok. Now it's working. Thanks for the links Evan!
Lsuoma, sorry for the delayed confirmation, but the feed is showing correctly in my Google Reader now. I appreciate all the work that you are putting into this forum.
I have one more issue. I noticed that the feed only displays the last 10 posts. As a byproduct of this forum's popularity, some posts will not show in my Google Reader. Besides possibly increasing the number of posts in the RSS feed to 25 or more, this issue may be outside your control, so I may search for an alternate feed reader where I can control the refresh rate.
Thanks again for responding promptly to my request.
Re: RSS feed?
No probs. I've set it to 25.
Note that the blog post Evan linked to had this warning:

Re: RSS feed?
BTW, I have deactivated all bots apart from Google FeedFetcher. If anyone wants a feed bot turned on let me know which one you need.
Re: RSS feed?
Unfortunately, the feed still displays only 10 items, but the feed still loads normally without errors. It still would not be enough since my Google Reader only updates the feed every 2-3 hours. I have worked around this issue by using a program called rawdog to retrieve the feed more frequently (currently every 10 minutes, although I can reduce the frequency if necessary). rawdog can produce a static HTML page of the feed, essentially creating one huge thread. Here is what I have gathered over the past several hours: http://pastehtml.com/view/c3u77mfqw.html.Lsuoma wrote:No probs. I've set it to 25.

I will continue to experiment with it, but for now I have found a way to get all the forum updates easily.
Thanks for all your assistance, Lsuoma.
Re: RSS feed?
So I'd updated the forum-based feed to 25, but not the board-based feed count - that was still at 10. I've set that to 25 as well now.Evan wrote:Unfortunately, the feed still displays only 10 items, but the feed still loads normally without errors.
Let me know how you get on, and apols for missing this earlier.

Unlike PZ, I will graciously accept your apology. :)Lsuoma wrote:So I'd updated the forum-based feed to 25, but not the board-based feed count - that was still at 10. I confirm that the board-based feed count is now 25. Thus I have reduced my feed refresh rate to every 20 minutes. Thanks, Lsuoma!
Re: RSS feed?
Thanks for confirming it's OK now, Evan.
Re: RSS feed?
Just posting here to get that spamming wanker "XMTsEk" off the main page.
Re: RSS feed?
Oh hell, I just noticed I'm only 4 posts away from 4000.
Re: RSS feed?
Well, three now.
