New poll - which features should stay?

#1

Post by Lsuoma »

Each of the extensions I install add a memory burden, and slow things down a little. I'm running a little poll to get an idea of whether any of these features are useful or not, and if anyone thinks they should be disabled.

In general, anything that allows the Pit to not take something seriously is a bonus.

I voted 'Post Love' - it's a novelty that will soon wear out it's welcome (and the notifications are basically background noise).

My vote against love is probably also some sort of commentary on the times we are living in.

I misread the post and voted for what I wanted to keep. This is why democracy doesn't work.

I think the russians may have hacked this poll.

Which features should be kept and which should be given the elbow?

Even if people will fuck it up - sometimes you have to ask the question...

Faster posting
- Not sure what is meant by this feature. The always visible post reply?
Flags
- For utilitarian purposes this seems to be there for shits & giggles as none of us take it seriously. But I can see potential value for people knowing where someone lives when discussing a place such as France, China or Germany.
Gender
- Again something that none of us take seriously so it appears to be of little use. It is more of a fun option.
Post Love
- ^This I think is one of the few practical options as it reduces posts of people stating that they agree, or love a given post. But if others disagree on it's perceived value, who am I to disagree.
Fancy formatting options
- What we had before seemed to be fine.
Drag 'n' drop media embedding
- I haven't used that yet, but I can see the utilitarian value in this.

I voted to answer the question in the subject ("which features should stay?") instead of the question in the header ("Should I disable any of these?"), which are opposite questions.

Also, I don't see any way to change my vote.

OK. I am going to have to officially declare that this poll too confusing. At least two people have voted for items they wish to keep, which from Lsuoma's post appears to be the wrong way of voting. (I personally interpreted it his way of which ones to axe). Lsuoma has told people they can change their vote. One person says they cannot do that. And I don't see how that can be done either. I think poll voting modification got eliminated with the update.

The issue are these two following lines
New poll - which features should stay?
People reading that as the primary emphasis are voting for the options they wish to stay.
Should I disable any of the following new Pit fetures?
People focusing on that are selecting options they think should be dropped.

People are voting two different ways on the same poll due to the instructions.

I say lock this, and recreate a new poll with less contradictory statements.

Time to abort this poll and retry. I will forgo the 4chan style imagery that would typically come with such a suggestion.

Flags and post love are fun, but marginal enough to get rid of.

I would definitely keep drag drop - board image storage - saves loading to another host or if the host link expires.
Look at the mess that Photobucket left on forums when the changed T & Cs to try to charge for hotlinking.
Additional formatting eg simple video/witter embeds are good (assuming they work as expected)

Hearts are not really the Pit Style , not mad about "likes", flags have limited use and anyway
I think we can always display location if we want to, jokey or not.
If gender is taking resources disable that
as long as we can have our own bathrooms.

Just out of curiosity is the issue with RAM consumption on the server itself? Or how much information (and thus repeated calls back to the server, and information to be processed) it takes for our local computers to render a page?

It's stupid process limits from Tardhost.

A while back, someone suggested possible alternatives to the post-love heart logo. I prepared these two .png files at 65x65 pixels after examining a heart and guessing -- I could prepare them at a different size if necessary..

That said, when I think of such a world, I cannot but help be reminded of the time I worked in a United Rubber Workers union as a 'Curved Hose Vulcanizer': that person who receives cut lengths of raw uncured hose and maintains 2 carts-full-of-hot-metal-hose-interior-molds. atternatively pulling steam-cured lengths off the molds, and re-populating said molds after oiling them down from troughs using scoops cut from bleach-bottles --- the boiling oil dripping on skin. Salt pills were provided, and "hand toughener" which was a formaldehyde solution. I kid you not. I learned some extremely salty language and pretty serious wolf-whistling and calling toward any occasional female type person who might be passing by

* all this helped push a stupid kid back into college to finish it.

I wouldn't want to be the person who made the Slymepit look like one of those racks of oil-dripping molds awaiting my placement of tghe raw hose -- no gloves all0wed when putting on because "touch" is needed to not kink up the corners --.

At least not without support from our Dear Leader. :cdc:

Teh bastard eliminated my gender neutral status. It was fun while it lasted. So obviously I won't be making up gender icons for mayonnaise, apache helicopters or any other such nonsense.

Tell us what will stick around. If the flags are sticking, I might be inclined to create flags for anti-fa, MRA, globalist, Feminazi, Nazi, or anything else I think is funny... unless the fascist really is pushing for them to actually reflect nationality/location.

Slymepit is a false-flag operation.
