Need some answers from yanks for a study

#1

Post by SPACKlick »

Please consider your answer to this without reading the answers below. I'm posting this to several forums in order to collect Data. If you could indicate with your answer whether or not you are a US Citizen/resident from birth or how long you've been a citizen resident that would also be appreciated.

The question is simple. In words how would you tell someone the following unit price.

$.002

Thank you in advance.

Two mills, but I have a fairly good understanding of obscure monetary history. I am not sure how common that knowledge is.

Yep this forum and others have confirmed my suspicions, that the idiot who claimed that most USAians would see this as "point zero zero two cents" was indeed an idiot.

I assume you would agree that "point zero zero two cents" is $0.00002 or 0.002¢?

Wasn't aware Mills were still used in the US but I see that property is still taxed in Mils as well as several other uses like utilities. This all roots in verizonmath (old news now but damned entertaining. transcript of video)

Verizon quoted roaming rates for internet usage as "point oh oh two cents per kilobyte" when reading $.002 off a sheet which is a hundredfold misquote (2.05 cents per Mb as opposed to 2.05dollars per Mb) and lead to the user using about 35 megs of data expecting to pay less than a dollar and being billed for $72.

That's the only time I've ever heard the term used by ordinary people. Otherwise, it'd be "two-tenths of a cent."

2/1000ths of a dollar. Anything less than $1.00 should have a C with a vertical strike after the number.
