Transgender brain differences definitely exist.
While obviously scientists have proved there are no brain differences between men and women, doctors can use brain differences to decide to delay puberty in the hope of improving the success of a sex change later.

Abstract
This article attempts to add another layer to our understanding of the phenomenon of hysterical duality. The author postulates that hysterical duality can be explained based on the dual-aspect model of feminine sexuality, which exhibits two initially contradictory paths: one derived from primary vaginal sensations and the other from clitoral pleasure. At first, these two paths create a fundamental split between representations of internal space, containment and motherhood and representations related to auto-eroticism and the effacement of the Other's presence and needs. The author argues that this manifest contradiction makes the attainment of integration in feminine development an intricate and protracted process, which involves an act of inversion. This inversion entails a post-Oedipal disavowal of primary vaginal sexuality, pending its rediscovery through the encounter with the Other. Hysteria is thus viewed as the result of a failure to perform this inversion and an inability to extract oneself from the position of a "Vaginal Girl", who defines herself through the desire of the other. This pathological course of development leaves the hysteric's sexuality in a split state and traps her in the duality of clitoral pleasure versus penetration, which unconsciously represents humiliation and exploitation.

I know Canada is boring (something I'm generally grateful for), and this doesn't have the cachet of added MiG-21 Fishbeds, but it seems my imagined screenplay of our Prime Minister's Office officials trying to browbeat the Attorney General into political interference with prosecutorial independence was right on the money. It's dry stuff, but it takes away any claims to moral superiority from Trudeau's government.

I'm watching the BBC's 'Politics Live' program as I sit here writing this and Labour MP Kate Hoey (a staunch Brexiteer) has been saying the very same, to paraphrase her "People don't understand that when you get out of London and speak to people in the north and midlands as I do, labour voters are very angry and will not vote labour again if they renege on their 2017 manifesto pledge)
So yes, right now Labour are unelectable. But then again, so are the Tories. the next election will throw up some interesting results. Local elections are in May with 270 English councils up for grabs, could be very telling.
I still have a reflexive dislike of the Tories from growing up in the north at the height of Thatcherism, and the current mob are useless. I'd have probably voted remain in the Brexit referendum, but the behaviour of the EU (and remainers) have put me firmly in the 'out now, no deal is fine', camp. So not likely to be my first choice.
Labour - not under Corbyn and his red mafia. I voted Labour consistently to get Thatcher and Major out, but once they were in power, I realised that there wasn't much difference, and that Blair was (in many ways) Thatcher-lite.
Lib Dems - no real point. SNP - put it this way, I would have voted to remain in the UK in the Indyref, principally because the SNP couldn't govern their way out of a we t paper bag (their policies all seemed to rely on every negotiation - separating from the UK, joining the EU as a separate entity, etc - going entirely their way... ). And there you have it, people from the traditional Labour heartlands like the north would vote Labour come what may (no pun intended) I lived and worked in South Yorkshire for 20 years and there were two sayings that used to be rolled out come election day.Pseudomonas wrote: ↑ I still have a reflexive dislike of the Tories from growing up in the north at the height of Thatcherism,

But the pits and mills and steelworks and shipyards and engineering/manufacturing jobs have largely gone and the old guard of trade union 'socialists' are dying off. People have seen their neighbourhoods change demonstrably with mass migration which brings its own social problems, housing, health care, schools, wage stagnation, crime etc. They no longer see Labour as the party for them, which of course they no longer are, but they will never vote Tory.
As other party's and movements emerge people are starting to shift allegiances, especially if those movements are addressing the real concerns they have that the political elite won't touch with a ten foot pole.

I don't think Blair shared very much at all with Thatcher. He set the UK on it's current PC authoritarian course with a big increase in new legislation. I've heard it said that Alastair Campbell, a political appointee of Blair's, had an unprecedented level of control over public servants. Campbell was of the opinion that civil servants should parrot the Labour's political spin and he had Blair's backing to the extent that he was regarded by many as the de facto deputy PM. I think Blair and Thatcher had very different inclinations with regard to control of people's personal lives.Pseudomonas wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 7:24 pmLooking from the outside now, having once been a voter in the UK, I'd be hard put to decide where to put my cross.shoutinghorse wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 4:12 amLabour could go into a coalition with the SNP if they have the numbers but that's the point, with this statement yesterday that they will now back a 2nd referendum they will lose so much support in the north and midlands of England and South Wales that even with the sweaties on side they won't get there. And that's assuming the SNP keep their own support, polls suggest they're losing ground.

It ought to, but I doubt it will. At one time, such a scandal would result in the immediate resignation of the government; they have been caught with their hand in the till and there should be no question about their leaving. Trudeau will hang on, relying on short attention spans and public disinterest in the arcane rules of parliamentary procedure. He will frame it as bravely fighting for Canadian jobs and some will believe him, especially as the alternative governments don't look particularly palatable. I am used to seeing a governing party become progressively more corrupt over two or three terms in power, and elections at that stage feel like squeezing a particularly ripe and putrid pustule. I have not seen a party in power go from idealism to such disregard for the constitution in one term before. As always, the quality of corruption in Canadian politics is inferior stuff - our politicians show little imagination in the ways they abuse power and stick to simple, sordid self-interest. We don't seem to be able to produce proper Machiavellian slyness here, which is one reason for our boring nature. One might admire the cleverness and nerve of a real schemer like Harold Wilson, but our political acne really is vulgaris and we just keep popping the pustules and move on. I am beginning to realise my function as a voter is simply to remove an unwanted government, rather than to vote for the policies of a new one. This is depressing, but rational.CaptainFluffyBunny wrote: ↑It's bandied about Twitter that this is a major scandal with potential resignation capacity. For those who don't follow it, the issue is that a giant construction contractor has been spreading bribes very liberally to gain work abroad. Millions handed over to Gaddafi for contracts in Libya, which not only is illegal, but tarnishes Canada's reputation, and ensures that other Canadian firms will be expected to offer bribes as that's what Canada is now known to do. SNC paid for one of Gaddafi's sons to make 'educational' visits to Canada, and is alleged to have paid $30,000 for prostitutes for one son during one visit. That is the kind of thing that made a remediation agreement (non-criminal wrist slapping provided for by legislation specifically passed, it seems, to resolve this case) unacceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions. But brave Justin preferred to improve his re-election chances by pressuring the Attorney General to overrule the DPP rather than see justice be done to a rich and powerful Québec corporation.
Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!

I would have expected this from Trudeau. His assumed moral superiority comes from empty virtue signalling. Acting unethically is a given if it keeps the virtuous in power. Ends justify the mens and all that. It certainy isn't unusual. Obama had a bit more substance and charisma, which is how he got away with promising transparency and then running the most opaque administration ever. If people think Trump is a threat to the free press it is only because they don't know how vindictive Obama's administration was toward disobedient reporters. The Blair gov was the same. They came in with a fanfare proclaiming their virtue, promising a new dawn after Tory corruption (most of that manufactured by Labour spin) and ethical foreign policy. It didn't take long before they were mired in various scandals.screwtape wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 6:19 amI am used to seeing a governing party become progressively more corrupt over two or three terms in power, and elections at that stage feel like squeezing a particularly ripe and putrid pustule. PZ has waded into the Captain Marvel, Rotton Tomatoes white knighting drama.
The background tl/dr is that RT have removed the “want to see” option for pre release movies. This after Femi-Mavel hit the lowly 20% mark. Because clearly this couldn’t be actual audience sentiment.
Of course PZ accidentally gets it’s all wrong. Luckily in a way that favours his bias.

Yeah PZ, that’s exactly what happened. Now wait for the post release apocalypse. You might be wondering how they did it, and what they did. Rotten Tomatoes noticed that movies that hadn’t been released yet, that no one had even seen, were being swarmed by people downvoting them, making their reviews unreliable and even more biased than usual. So they made a rule: you don’t get to rate a movie until after it has been released. This, of course, is a colossal threat to democracy!

Saw him and several others - Chantal Hebert & woman columnist at HuffPost - on the CBC National News last night - after JWR's testimony, and he emphasized those points again. Bit moot though whether Trudeau - and his "gang" - crossed a line or not, though they're certainly looking rather sleazy - as has become increasingly evident.
But interesting too that several of the nominally leftist media - Mope & Wail, and MacLean's for examples - have come out with some rather critical articles of JT after JWR's testimony. He might yet get stabbed in the rotunda, and well before the Ides of March. Couldn't happen to a nicer fellow ...
In any case, in some unrelated news, even if of "The Pope is Catholic" "astoundingness", Arthur Chu is a gutless wonder, having blocked me immediately after my last tweet to him:
