LOL WUT

Apparently telling people to go home is worse than telling people to fuck off?
It's a good thing we greet people with a hearty "fuck off". If we told them to "go home" we might really offend them.
I read that to my wife. Her look was all the response I needed.

Phillipe: You mentioned a "donate" link, but I couldn't discover it.
If you make it too hard for me to buy you dinner, I shan't play ball. I'll take my cricket bat and "go home".

Yeah, how difficult is it really to confirm the shit they write before they write it? One can easily find out that you didn't keep on the image after Surly's DMCA, but that you intended to counter-DMCA as you felt the image fell into the category of 'Fair Use'. (Is that right?)

It's really fucking simple. They can say what they want about this place, but the last thing they should say is that we make shit up. Because we consistently provide sources and we consistently quote verbatim if necessary. But it seems that when you're part of the FTB clique, then all it takes is a 'he said/she said' account and all is gravy. Pathetic.
L. Ron Hubbard is looking down and smiling at them. "They learned so well"

It was supposed to be a reference to a scene from "The Wild One" 1953. Marlon Brando:
Mildred: Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
Johnny: Whadda you got?
But it fell as flat as a pancake.

If I had a Science blog known to ban at will I would be embarrassed to have Josh post. There must be a reason he is kept.

Back in University I earned a fair portion of my tuition as a male exotic dancer. Got tired of women thinking that grabbing my package was okay. Similar behavior by men to a female dancer would have earned the customer an express ticket out the door via some very large bouncers. Tying-off was rather unpleasant too. Pay for men was far less than for the female dancers but tips were good. It is an option that you could explore if you have the moves and physique though.

You don't need all this fiddly chart thing or facts. It's easy:

1. You're all privileged.

2. Therefore Facist Scum and the cause of all my problems.

3. You can't disagree with me or you'll be gaslighting/mansplaining/blahblahsplaining.

That's proof you're all Nazi's.

Yes, I quite agree. Those types of accusations directed at some of the FTB commentariat have probably added materially to the poisoning of the well, the consequences of which should be clear to all.

Justin: it might help if you weren’t so dismissive of some of the frequently quite justified complaints from “them” and disabused “them” of the notion that “The Pit” is some monolithic Party Central, complete with catechism and Officers of the Inquisition to enforce its dogma – even if it might appear that way to outsiders. And that not everyone here supported or supports that accusation against her.

SallyStrange' still going on about that
Wouldn't you?
Don't you fight against perceived injustices until they are resolved?
Is it so surprising that SS might wish to clear her name of a potentially false and damaging libel?
The evidence for SS posting a threat against herself is incredibly flimsy and circumstantial.
If you genuinely want someone's help you don't ask for it while publicly calling them a misogynist and saying it came from that persons supporters. It is not consistent with honest intent.
Then she is clearly guilty of the heinous charge of sock-puppetry, m'lud.
The death penalty is the only option.

Christ on a crutch.
Of all folk, I didn't expect you to become a glaring hypocrite.

Is it that so hard to fathom? SS is clearly an unstable character, who will say things that you or I may not.
That does not make her immediately guilty of the flimsy defamation of which she has been accused.
I did not say she was guilty. I repeat:

'If you genuinely want someone's help you don't ask for it while publicly calling them a misogynist and saying it came from that persons supporters. It is not consistent with honest intent.'

I have no interest in speculating on her motives but I will judge her actions which are publicly on display.

Rather remarkable the rabid response you received over there, although you’re to be commended for “witnessing to the heathens” – so to speak. But such responses really only go to show the lurkers and the fence-sitters here which “camp” has the more rational and credible commenters.

BTW, welcome to the Pit ….

You certainly got dogpiled and they built enough strawmen to build a skyscraper.

Anyway they kept challenging you to make your views known here such as:

'If you won’t say it at the Slimepit, then DON’T FUCKING SAY IT HERE! If you’re only yelling at us, then you are NOT A NEUTRAL PARTY!'

Please feel free to do that.

And, again out of curiosity, how is that any different from the accusation from “them” that any who criticize feminism are misogynists? That “they all have the name Mark Lepine?”

Doesn’t look much to me like the “principle of charity” that Novella was championing: “We have seen the enemy and he is us ….”
What exactly is your argument here Steersman?
I gave my suspicions about Erik based on his actions and similarities of behavior to a previous proven POE.
I admitted I didn't have proof that he was the same individual but suggested a way to falsify the hypothesis using evidence (IP address).
For this to be a type of, "they all have the name Mark Lepine", wouldn't there need to be some sort of generalization?
- As implied by the "they all" part.
Part of my argument is that you, among others here, give some evidence of having your thumb on the scales. For instance, these statements from you look substantially more than just “giving your suspicions”, and look more like being judge, jury and executioner:
Post 1816:
Hi Erikthebassist/Tom Johnson/Wally Smith! ;)
I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away for ever.

Post 1947:
Hi Wally, ;) long time no see.
I knew you'd turn up sooner or later.

Post 1994:
The side you decided to join, Wally?

Post 2347:
And so Erikthe bassist/Wally Smith flings some poo at us and flounces out the door.
Did anyone seriously expect another outcome?
So, apart from the fact that “flounces out the door” looks like a rather uncharitable portrayal of his statement of prior commitments, I would say those posts of yours are quite a bit more than just a voicing of “suspicions”.

And while it is true that you did suggest a “way to falsify the hypothesis”, that was well after the above accusations and its probable consequences in poisoning the well. You would have had a lot more credibility if you’d made that suggestion at the beginning rather than at the end of the discussion.

As for the generalization, that is implicit in your characterization of Erik as one of “these Christian trolls” [#2347]: someone supposedly exhibits a few of the those characteristics and then they are automatically, ipso facto, the most egregious example of the class that one can find. The same way that any who criticize Myers’ highly idiosyncratic definition of feminism are Mark Lepine clones.

Somewhat apropos, I ran across this comparison of the Pit and Atheism Plus from Damion which provides a succinct summary of my “argument”:
As to hyper-skepticism, yeah, that happens too. Even fairly ordinary claims such as “I’ve been diagnosed with cancer” and “I was awkwardly propositioned at a conference” may be considered extraordinary and unbelievable in the ‘Pit. This indicates that at least some of the posters have fallen prey to the idea that the “other side” is so thoroughly malevolent and untrustworthy that they cannot be extended the benefit of the doubt, which is just one more thing that many Pitters have in common with most Plussers. Two sides, same coin, insert prosaic metaphor of choice.
But do note his sensible use of “some”, “many”, and “most” as opposed to your categorical lumping of Erik into the class of “Christian trolls” simply on the basis of some tenuous if not non-existent evidence – rather inconsistent in those who make claim to being skeptics.
Dick Strawkins wrote:As for the principle of charity idea championed by Novella, I think you'll notice that his own actions show he ignores this principle when it suits him ....
You’re probably right on that point, and you’re probably justified in calling him on it. But I don’t think it justifies completely discounting his efforts to bring some unification of the “force” – so to speak.
Dick Strawkins wrote:As for being charitable to Erikthebassist, I think you'll notice that plenty of people here welcomed him and asked him to explain himself ...
Fine; good for them; more power to them. But not really cricket if not actually a little disingenuous, at best, of you to try to take a ride on their coattails since the above evidence more or less proves you had it “in” for him right out of the chute.
Dick Strawkins wrote:And as for tar and feathering him, I notice that you have no problem using an analogy while getting all pedantic about others doing so.
One rule for you?
Not quite sure what you’re getting at as I certainly “have no problem” with other people using an analogy as long as they do so properly. If I’m not mistaken what you’re referring to is my recent comment where I criticized franc for attacking Ophelia Benson by asserting that she was equating TAM and Nazi Germany – which is simply and egregiously false – when what she actually did was to create an analogy between those two groups, even if she has some difficulty with the concept as well. Very significant difference between equating and comparing through analogies, the former asserting equality and identify, the latter acknowledging both similarities and differences.
