Back in the late 70s, early 80s UK, you could have probably got an Arts Council grant for that kind of shite. Pity I hadn't been born a few decades earlier - give em some bollocks about an 'exploration of the self as held hostage by the fascistic imperatives of the biological entity', then spend as little of the money as I could rolling around stark naked on a stage, my face painted to look like a skull, all the while screaming, 'My kidneys are Himmler; my isles of the langerhans are Martin Bormann; MY SPERM IS HITLER! VICTIM! VICTIM! VICTIM'

Chances are, the performance could even have ended up on a late-night BBC 2 arts program fronted by a stony-faced lesbian with a bit of pink in her hair.
You can always come here to Sweden, our government still throw money at the craziest of crazy art crap, like for example producing feminist porn or the most bizzare cake you'll ever see...
From the linked wiki page:
Skin features two figures, one male and one female, clad in full-body nylon stockings caressing and kissing each other intimately. After a while, the two figures begin to cut open the nylon with a pair of scissors to reveal the naked skin underneath, and engage in oral and penetrative sex. There is no dialogue and only soft background music. Directed by Elin Magnusson.
Fruitcake is a mix of close-up shots of various objects and human anuses being licked, dripped with saliva, fingered or penetrated with sex toys. The images are accompanied by a monologue. Directed by Sara Kaaman and Ester Martin Bergsmark.
Dildoman is the only animated film in the collection. It shows images of a men's club where masturbating adult or middle-aged men watch two women having sex on a pool table. One of the men is then suddenly grabbed by one of the women, who now dwarfs him. The woman proceeds to insert the man into her vagina. When she reaches climax, the man inside her goes limp. The film ends with a shot of the front of the men's club. Directed by Åsa Sandzén.
For the Liberation of Men is an abstract mix of clips of a man clad in women's clothing masturbating and close-ups of an old woman's face. Directed by Jennifer Rainsford.
Seriously. It's impossible to parody this crap.

Justin, why are you copying a friends-only post here? And do you have some evidence that this person has in fact been hypocritical about gender slurs?

That was obviously private for a reason, I'd delete the pic from imgur if it was you who uploaded it. And FFS, just take a moment to think the next time you want to post some gossip here.

another lurker wrote:Just putting this out there, for those who are interested:
Women who outnumber men in poor communities are likelier to have babies at a younger age as competition drives them to lower their expectations of the opposite sex, a British study said on Wednesday.

The findings are a useful tool for understanding unwanted teen pregnancies, its authors believe.

Researchers at the University of Portsmouth compared birth rates, gender ratios and the socio-economic background in more than 2,500 English wards, or urban neighbourhoods, each with about 8,000 residents.

In poor neighbourhoods where men were the minority, women had children earlier, the investigators found.

But in more affluent neighbourhoods where men were similarly outnumbered, women focused on education and career, later becoming the group with the higher birth rate in their 30s.
Link: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/02/13/f ... eas-study/

Pretty much matches my observations. Also note this part:
This is a situation that worries policymakers in India, China and other countries where there is a looming deficit of young women as a result of gender selection in pregnancy in favour of males.
They should be worried.

Does not take much to see a lot of violence ahead both at a local and national level in China and India. I believe we have seen reports of some of this in India recently (destructive rape being one expression of intense sexual/socioeconomic competition).

Which is why I see conflict ahead both in and between China, India and Russia (Central and Northern Asia, Siberia in the Russian Far East). One of the regions I also expect this to play out is in African regions where China has developed economic interests, never mind the South China Sea. This also extends to Australia and New Zealand. As I recall that region has been put on notice as to where their future interests lie by China.

I am also pretty interested in seeing what happens with Japan, as their current selection for more socially aggressive males has some implication concerning their overall outlook as a nation (providing they survive long enough that is).

Anyone can be the next OB! The bar is pretty low on that score.

There will be, I predict, many claims that similar comments can be found at Pharyngula, but zero actual examples.

Go ahead and show that I’m wrong.

I reckon the closest thing you can find will be the “go fuck yourself sideways with a rusty porcupine” meme, which was deliberately retired because of the connotations of sexual aggression and sexual assault.

But again. I invite those who think there’s an equivalence to prove me wrong.

Envious! Robert Cray is fantastic - I had the good fortune to go to one of his early career concerts, when I was in grad school. I would have loved to hear him again at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2011. Strong Persuader and Time Will Tell are two of my favorite Cray albums.

Speaking of music and derailing, my sub-1 hour 15 min 10K run this morning was powered in part by one of Phil's albums. So grateful for the iPod nano - I can't run without music. Well, I can, but I wouldn't want to. I'm a persistent runner, but damn I've become old and slooowwwww ....

http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=256 (those are comments about violence, not comments on personal characteristics, which I agree the FtBers don't tend to do - though they do cast negative aspersions on others' beliefs, including at times implication of immoral behavior, e.g. calling people MRAs, evil, rape-apologists, and would-be (or actual?) rapists. See comment about the difference, discussed here in past 24 hrs, I think it was LMU's observation but I could be misremembering who pointed it out)

Are they freaking kidding? For heaven's sake, comments like those are a dime a dozen at A+, FTB and the like! For example:
Fuck off and die.
That goes for both you and your informaint....As such, you are now my archetype of a vile piece of human scum. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

fuck you.
(at http://atheismplus.com/forums/viewtopic ... 925#p70215)

Of course, they immediately try to insulate themselves from the porcupine rape "jokes". It is also the case that things like PZ saying that ERV has the wrong opinion about being stalked, or the accusations that she is trying to impress the boys, and all of that are much harder to quote.

Upon further thought, why play their game? How to ANY of those quotes compare to trying to get ERV fired, or accusing an innocent guy, by name, of taking upskirt pictures?

The cake was a very interesting visual and as a metaphor it works.

However, the clip is problematic because I suspect it does not properly frame the intended context for the artist who created the cake.

Even so, If I was there there is no way I would have gone anywhere near that cake. Because no matter how it was framed beforehand, the result could never be what the artist intended because of who participated in slicing the cake.

What the participants apparently failed to consider, is that it says that they knowingly endorse and approve by their participation.

The screams of their victim indicate that she is alive and experiencing agony as the women smile while carving slices of her sexual parts for their consumption, apparent uncaring and unaffected by the torture of their helpless victim, another woman.

Apparently the idea that they would be seen as some privileged white women performing cannibalism, consuming the resources, contentedly eating the person of a disadvantaged black woman in agony, completely escaped them.

I am astounded.

Listened just now; enjoyed it. Karla graciously thanked Ophelia & Stephanie for promoting the episode on their blog; that was nice.

Later in the show, Karla referred to "dissenter syndrome" - can anyone point to something by that name? (Google asked me if I meant dysentery syndrome or dysenteric syndrome, and most of the pages turned up for "dissenter syndrome" actually said "Obama syndrome" - ??)

When I saw Cray in the 80s in Eugene OR, there was a ska band that played before he came on. Can't even remember the name of the band - one hit wonder, I'm pretty sure. Nice to see that Cray continues to be awesome.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bravehero/ ... ian-fields
Brian Fields, co-chair of the Secular Coalition for America's Pennsylvania chapter and president of PA Nonbelievers, joins Justin Vacula and Karla for a special weekday episode.

What is the state of church/state separation in Pennsylvania?

What is the Secular Coalition for America and PA Nonbelievers doing to protect the wall of seperation between church and state?

Why should people care?

How do we best approach activism?

Can you have lunch with Richard Dawkins?

What does Brian Fields think about the in-fighting in the atheist/skeptic community?

It's funny how Nugent's redacted the names, but in many cases the person is identifiable by the description. That says something.

I don't get why #21 is on there, it's a quote from one of there sites, nicht wahr?
I skipped to the end of the current conversation and became acquainted with a commenter named [named person] who apparently doesn’t like [named person] very much–based on the fact that he concluded his comment with the phrase ‘Fuck her. Fuck her. Kill her. Dump her in a ditch’. This actually did get some negative attention from the mod and a couple of other posters. That was at 11PM PST last night. This morning, the offensive phrase that I reproduced above has been miraculously modified to read “Kiss her. Kiss her. Kiss her. Kiss her on the cheeks”.

Pfft. Neon was awesome, and more 80s.

He gives two trigger warnings. Then into the muck we go. [Trigger warning, by the way. As you doubtless know, this is horrible stuff. It makes you think ill of humanity. Be warned.] A sample.

Trigger warning: For readers not familiar with the type of material published on The Slymepit website, please be aware that you may find the comments quoted in this article to be abusive, shaming and very disturbing.
Okay, so the post consists of:
Blah
Blah
More Blah
Cherry picked examples
No context in which anything was said

My question is this:
Even if one were to grant (for the sake of argument) that the 'Pit is full of nothing but vile, misogynistic, rape enabling, triggering assholes... how in any way does this justify the various "Witches of the Week" we've had for damn near two years?
"The 'Pit says nasty stuff, so DJ Grothe is a sexist"?
"Someone in the 'Pit said I looked like a muppet, so Shermer is a sexist"?
I'm not getting it.
These issues run a lot deeper than the 'Pit vs. Creepy Clowns, and it needs to be made clear that this is the case.

@lonesagi:

Agreed, and hopefully Porter is advising JV of that now. It also wouldn't hurt to throw in a few of the violent hateful comments from the FfTB's.

There's been so much of the "fence sitter" interaction with both sides lately that I forgot Nugent is definitely a partisan adversary and not a neutral interested party.

Very much so... firmly partisan, while attempting to pretend to be civil and neutral ... even his civility drops from time to time, his neutrality facade slips all the time

His "respect" slips at times, just because you insult or demean somebody else in a nice tone with fancy words, doesn't make it any less demeaning ... if anything it makes it worse

It was a very badly researched article. No context and suggested that it was representative of thousands of posts. There was no attempt at addressing the reasons for the posts either. No mention was made that this was an unmoderated board where people can say that they like. No mention that FfB regularly ban and memory hole to remove embarrassing and dissenting views. No mention of the reasons for the posts or posts where we argue with each other. No mention of the constructive conversations we have.

JV I would have refused to answer given the clear attempt to poison the well and anyway it is not your worry what other people say. He should ask them if he wants to know.

It's just more victim points and a waste of time.

All people have to do is come here and read and make up their own minds. Because that's what skeptics do. As I have said a thousand times, they are not skeptics.

For anyone reading here one thing you must grasp first. We are NOT a Borg collective and make up a diverse group of people from many backgrounds. We have the sort of diversity FtB and A+ dream about. Not one of us is responsible for the other and if you have an issue with what someone posts, come here and present your argument so THAT person can respond. No one else, including JV, has the responsibility to do so moral or otherwise.

It's not a completely unfounded statistic, but it comes from a 17-year-old study with a sample size of 4000, which estimated almost 700,000 rapes per year with a 5% pregnancy rate. The author of that study says the numbers must in the range of 50,000 now due to increased population (he doesn't mention the significant decrease in rape incidence in the last 20 years).

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000087 ... 90750.html
http://articles.latimes.com/2012/aug/23 ... d-20120822

By contrast, RAINN, one of the most respected NGOs in the field, estimates 3200 pregnancies from rape per year, based on 04-05 stats from the DOJ's National Crime Victimization Survey's count of 65,000 rapes -- based on a survey of 40,000 households comprising about 75,000 people.

http://www.rainn.org/get-information/st ... lt-victims

http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/index.cfm?ty=dcdetail&iid=245

So you you have a discrepancy of 1000% between an old study with a small sample size and a newer study with a sample size about 10 times as large. Marcotte likes those huge numbers, though, so she's flogging them with abandon.
Don't forget, having sex with a woman who has had a sip of beer counts as rape in Marcotte's world. So the annual number of rape pregnancies is probably closer to 7 million.
I wonder if she's included the pregnancies caused when the rapist gets pregnant.
lol silly. Men can't get pregnant.

Love, Amanda Marcotte

You're posting about "respect" and "ideas" in a thread that started off with a series of posts attacking a group of women on their physical appearance?

Note that the first few comments in this thread features prominently in Nugent's list.

I disagree. I think he laid a nice trap.

When someone presents evidence, as he did, he is duty bound to present it in context. He did not. I therefore wrote off his exercise as not done in good faith and totally lacking in integrity.

For fuck's sake, can this crusty old cunt not come up with anything remotely original? If she's not acting as FfTB's version of reddit, she's taking the slightest mention of her name and fucking it into the ground.

Which reminds me, here is number 50 from Nugent's list of Slymepit atrocities against women, or people, or something:
I don’t think you should have offered any sort of “cease-fire”. I cringed when I first read about it. Why should we let up? In any way? These fuckers needs to be utterly annhiliated from the atheist community. Fuck ‘em the ground.
Hilarious. He quotes things knowing nothing of their history. This was a quote originated by Meyers in which he cried about a gelato shop owner (christian) not serving him and his band of weird beards. Meyers made out like he was a Jew in 1936 Germany.
