Now that it appears the Pit has solved the Israel-Gaza conflict perhaps we should turn our attention to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The new FTB logo is just so wrong, in all the right ways. It perfectly sums up their repressive attitudes, lack of self-awareness and complete tone-deaf cluelessness. You literally cannot look at it without thinking "STOP freethought". Did NOBODY point that out before it was approved?
Despite having not visited here in a long time, I immediately had to see if it was being mocked in the Pit. You guys didn't disappoint.
PS, the latest Surlyramics look like something you'd find at the bottom of a spittoon, or maybe the floor of the dugout at Yankee Stadium.

$45US (or perhaps this):

The two alternatives you listed are far superior to hurlyramics.
The new FTB site design is balls, but most site redesigns since 2010 or so have been horrible downgrades imo. The focus on development for smart phones has led to downgrading features in favor of that sleek appleesque design that's so popular nowadays.
YMMV

Just imagine the feeding frenzy if Dawkins were to keel over today. His commenters would pick at Dawkins' bones for months, with barely concealed glee fully evident in many of the usual suspects' words.

The dictator for life (as far as I can see) that invaded and annexed the lands of neighbouring sovereign country in order to defend his "race" from a western backed, neo-fascist zionist (???) ethnic cleansing, violating the disarmament treaty they had signed which was ultimately worth nothing more than toilet paper? I'm sure he's a swell guy.

If Surly Amy wants to emphasize the constellations rather than the astrological signs, then she should be using the names "Scorpius" (as opposed to "Scorpio") and "Capricornus (as opposed to "Capricorn"). There are no constellations named "Scorpio" or "Capricorn". :angry-nono: :character-burgerking:HoneyWagon wrote:Here is another view of the necklaces...

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
I don't really care all that much about the new drapes they put up but I am as befuddled as others as to what the heck that hand is supposed to be about. It instantly, to me at any rate, evokes an impression of suppression, the big paw coming down to shove the camera, microphone or irksome person away, to push and silence dissent, to stop. I cannot reconcile that hand image with the concept of freedom of thought, the idea and image seem worlds apart. Regards that prescriptive, proscriptive and shunning lot it's an appropriate image but they think themselves a shining light and not ideologues. I doubt the intent was to signal the subtle irony of their brand name so what are they trying to convey with that image? While I'm at it the atom symbol on the header of each section also seems to make little sense.
As for the 'FTB Favourites' in reading material, well aaah... where is the magnum opus, a tome years in the crafting that took the literary world by storm upon release, the blog anthology The Happy [cracks me up each time] Atheist? I looked just to be sure it wasn't merely on another page of the shop, but no those four are the favourites in total. I'm sure they won't be long in making sure the most important work of atheist literature is listed, however, I just think it's mildly amusing that it was missing at the beginning while the lesser Hitchens was listed.
Oh and I came up INTJ, I'd have actually got in when relevant but it took a while to catch up; those bouncing Jennekes severely retarding progress.

It looks like she appropriated the name 'Starry Night', but I can't see any interpretation of Van Gogh's piece in there. It does look like her earlier constellation efforts were better. Not good, mind you, but coherent and not complete shit. She claims the flower-stars are meant to represent Orion, but she botched that entirely. How does an artist of any level of competence screw up the most recognizable constellation in the sky after the Dippers? (Yes, I know the answer to that)Dick Strawkins wrote:jet_lagg wrote:Aren't we not supposed to be doing shops any more? ... why the fucking snot on everything that's supposed to be space? I don't get it... or well, I get that it's supposed to be the milky way or nebulae or something like that, but surely even Amy realize that it turned out to look mostly as if Bill Hicks coughed up half a lung worth of phlegm over her stuff?
I just don't get it...[/quote]
It might make some sense to represent the Milky Way in that fashion, as that is often done in celestial cartography:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... map-fr.png
However, the Milky Way passes through only four of the Zodiacal constellations - Taurus, Gemini, Scorpius, and Sagittarius. Nebulae are few and far between (and generally small and faint). I don't really follow her intentions - attempting to depict the arrangement of stars within the constellations realistically, but then having some diffuse glow in the background in a completely unrealistic manner.
As for the individual constellations her representations leave much to be desired. Only "Scorpio" [sic] would I call a good representation of the actual shape. Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, and Sagittarius are nearly unrecognizable. She has inserted random stars where none exist and omitted others, and has not distinguished between bright stars and faint ones by using different sized crystals (or whatever they are). Please consult an atlas for your future efforts, Amy. :snooty:

While it looks like FtB was explicitly going egalitarian with respect to their bloggers in the new design, I wonder how long it will be before the "B" team (Stephanie, Ophelia, and Greta) complain privately that they don't get the exposure they used to? It wouldn't surprise me at all if in a month or two there's a "Featured Bloggers" pane and/or certain bloggers automatically get prioritized up in the subject lists (for all I know, that's already the case).

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
While reading about the "Model View Culture" troubles that were posted earlier, I noticed that that twitter picture is a real picture of her. I had presumed it was some kind of CG representation. Between her and Hensley, is there some new trend among radical SJW's toward Uncanny Valley portraits using inch deep makeup that obscures contrast and blank expressions?welch wrote:At this point, she's a clickbaiting troll.didymos wrote: And she wonders why people react to her with hostility...
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Well this is certainly going well for the CFI.

And since Hitler liked cats, the question of whether or not cat lovers are Nazi's isn;t a question anymore, it's a confirmed observation of reality.TiBo wrote:Oh by the way. Since "Israel critics", Neo-Nazis and Muslims are marching the streets of Europe for a common cause, the question whether you folks are rabid jew-haters, isn't really an honest question anymore. Hopefully your comment was a poe or satire. If not, you're an idiot.

In other words Ophelia Benson level hypocrisy in which someone on your own team does exactly what you spend every day railing about, and your prime response is to pretend it never happened.
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Given the description for the video is "You might be privileged if the only thing you have to complain about is people on the internet calling you privileged" I'm going to guess satire.

Don't insult Bubble Jewelry by comparing it to Hurlyramics.Dick Strawkins wrote:http://i.imgur.com/fHHzZ6N.jpg
The pieces you can create with that set look a lot more attractive.

Well played, sir. I suppose you are correct.deLurch wrote:It isn't a scam. She is delivering exactly what she promises.James Caruthers wrote:$48 (plus shipping?) for those abominations is insane. Surly has gone full-blown scammer, imo. Hurlyramics indeed, those don't look at all like constellations and look more like the leavings after a frat party.
A better question is why people in a depressed economy feel that $50 for ceramic puke is a price worth paying.
But then, the prevalence of Patreon, Kickstarter and Indiegogo is proof of the old adage about a fool and xir money.

There's your answer.
I've yet to see a SJW satire video that blocked either of those things.

One thing I can't deny is that Melody is bringing more publicity to CFI.

Perhaps they haven't divided the section into the final format yet.
A. Books to read
B. Books to burn

$48 dollars for that? Maybe the idea of polishing cat turds and selling them would actually work, assuming people buy these things...HoneyWagon wrote:Here is another view of the necklaces...

$48?
Each one is like <$.50 of materials.
There is the firing cost, time to mass produce them, cost of the Swarovski Crystals...
But frankly, the rhinestone chain is the most expensive part of it.

In my case, it was imagining the look of shock and panic on her face as she read that. Ah, schadenfreude!
