The image of PZ is set over a base layer of a sampled dark gray, and PZ's opacity is set to about 60%. Then the gray is duplicated atop the PZ image and set to Grain Extract blend mode, which pulls the dark gray out of the image in a coarse way, lightening it. This sandwich gave it a more realistic washed out effect than just desaturating/lightening would do.
Then finally, the lighting layers.
It's looks a little wonky from the 8-bit colors, but here are the steps:

To the best of my memory, PZ had nothing to do with the Horde’s [read: the Flock's - J.S.] discussion and subsequent abandonment of certain phrases. But it feeds nicely into the idea that we’re not actually people who have brains to think for themselves, but just mindless cult followers who heed every word PZ says and never ever disagree with him, his loyal minions who will lash out without ever even stopping to ask what has happened.
Sheeple, in short.

This is particularly amusing because it comes in response to the fact that Nugent sent them a draft of his post ahead of time to both PZ and he copied Dawkins and Ophelia Benson as well. For some reason it is particularly irritating to Benson that she was copied as well as Dawkins. Imagine that, Nugent sent them the information ahead of time, and it still pisses them off. paddybrown, your experience isn't bizarre. Alcohol typically depresses inhibitions early on, then depresses brain functions more broadly as the blood alcohol level (or, more to the point, the brain alcohol level) rises, leading to coma & cessation of respiration if the level rises far enough, fast enough. Alcohol has a widespread & relatively global effect on the brain but there is variability between people depending on all sorts of factors, both situational and those intrinsic to the person's genetic & neurochemical makeup. Sarkeesian is trying to do more than just pointing out sexual imagery in video games. If she simply complained about how sexualized female video game characters are, people wouldn't have cared about her opinion and would have called a bigot straight away.
