I'd say you were very perceptive. Adam Lee has been nipping at the heels of FFtB/Skepchick for years trying to get a piece of the conference circuit and blog hit pie. He also wants to be a 'name' and sadly chose the FFtB/Skepchick model to try and get that. In the process he has become an aggressively dishonest weasel, as has been so dramatically illustrated by Michael Nugent and others recently.
Back to lurking for me.
Oh, Lsuoma, hope you are feeling better!
Good to see you, if only for one post. Hope all is well.
All is well that matters, so thanks for asking. I was very pleased to see your return to the Pyt, too, BTW. You were missed.
I'm way to busy IRL to keep up with the Pyt, especially of late, but wanted to poke my head in for a moment. I do lurk and try to catch the high points when time permits. I should acknowledge the great job everyone did over at Nugent's in response to that awful bit of trash in the Guardian. I thought Nugent might come around eventually and it seems he did and in a big way. Adam Lee no doubt scored his highly desired brownie points over at FfTB/Skepchick, but in the process he laid out the real heart of the SJW and alienated a LOT of otherwise neutral people. Seeing the nearly universal pushback in the Guardian comments was a bit of a relief.
So keep up the good work, you buggers, even if it is just for the lulz!

On PZ's latest anti-Lovecraft WFA bust post; there are certainly many figures from the past that don't stand up to moral scrutiny today. He once again does not present any arguments defending this bizarre position, nor does he seem to have the slightest awareness of the incredible can of worms he is opening. Let me see if I can express myself in words of one syllable that even Mr. Older can understand: No one from the past can stand such scrutiny. (I apologise for that three-syllable word at the end; but I trust Mr. Older knows how to do a Google search to find the meaning of that word.) The very idea that every person (writer or otherwise) from the past must pass our current tests for political, social, and cultural correctness (assuming—and it’s a huge assumption—that there is even any uniformity of opinion on what that correctness might be) is a recipe for intellectual disaster. And what is more, none of us today could pass that test if we were subject to such scrutiny a hundred years from now.

Of course, in their minds, no mistakes were made. Everything is going swimmingly. But it’s going to take some new leadership, I think, or better yet, a great uprising.
Consider this little gem from a commenter Steven Carr at Carrier’s blog.
And if you think that’s funny, wait till you read Carrier’s response to it.Crossley doesn’t mention Atheism Plus, which is a massive movement with huge support.
This is a bad lapse on his part.

The award is HP because the four people who created it were all huge fans of his. The theme of the WFC (the FIRST WFC) was "The Lovecraft Circle", and it was held IN Providence, RI. That, plus the fact that they wanted the award to be easily held with one hand for photo ops led to the bust of HP. I don't really give a fuck if they change it, but if they do I feel it should be to a creature or inanimate object.

My comment did not contain any of these. My rudeness level is low, there aren't any sexist slurs, and I specifically quote him and address the points, which is not derailing in any way. If I mention anything that is not strictly on topic then he cannot allow it in the other cases. I am no more derailing than Oolon and PZ Myers and their claims about JREF forums or the Slymepit.Adam Lee wrote:FYI: I've updated the post with one more example of the pattern it discusses. Also, while coming here from the Slymepit isn't automatically a cause for the banhammer, be advised that I'm patrolling the comments here closely and will not tolerate rudeness, sexist slurs or derailing. There are lots of forums where you can spew misogyny to your heart's content; this site isn't one of them.
Further, Adam Lee again pretends that Slymepit commenters were using “rudeness, sexist slurs or derailingâ€. Conveniently, nobody can see it since it's what he moderated away. All that is proof of Adam Lee's dishonesty.

Also, Adam Lee is an imbecile. He is out of his mind? Why would Richard Dawkins Ok to spreading years old rumours?Adam Lee wrote:UPDATE: There’s one more relevant piece of information that’s since come to my attention and that deserves to be mentioned here. According to a post Ophelia Benson published today (and alluded to in earlier remarks), around the time she was corresponding with Richard Dawkins to negotiate the language of their joint anti-harassment statement, he asked her to “dissuade people from spreading the ‘libellous allegation that Michael Shermer is a rapist or a sexual predator.’†She declined to do as he requested.
* It’s worth comparing Randi’s paraphrase of Shermer’s explanation of his behavior – “he had a bit too much to drink and he doesn’t remember†– to Shermer’s own description of his encounter with Alison Smith as “sober and consensualâ€: “She was sober. I was sober.†If these are referring to the same event, there’s obviously a significant contradiction. Or are there other stories that we haven’t heard?
** If this is not Nugent’s position, I’ll be glad to issue a correction. But in that case, I’d expect him to state that he thinks Alison Smith did the right thing by coming forward. So far, he’s ducked multiple opportunities to say so.

Wouldn't it be better to come at things like this with a bit of honesty and integrity and kill two birds with one post by simultaneously distancing themselves from the SJW brigade and add to their own credibility? Mum does performs Reiki. She has qualifications in it and everything. Quite why you need qualifications to hold your hand over someone and think "heal" is a bit beyond me. She does claim however that the UK doctors are not allowed to prescribe Reiki because "you can't make money from it". Nothing to do with the fact that it is completely untested. Just remember, since science doesn't know every thing you are quite free to fill it with what ever horse shit takes your fancyThreeFlangedJavis wrote:The smart woomeisters are into distance energy healing. Nicely done by Joshi there. Just as every generation thinks it's the one to discover sex, then so does every generation believe itself to be the one which has discovered progressivism - and by extension, believe it (and themselves) to be the apotheosis of civilised and just thought. Certainly, the eugenicists of the early 20th century intelligentsia believed they only had the best interests of the human race at heart. Likewise, there's no reason to suppose that the right kind of progressive stance today might not be seen as downright evil by the progressives of tomorrow.TedDahlberg wrote: I don't think I've ever had a stronger urge to tell someone to fuck off. Luckily I don't have to, S.T. Joshi has done it much more eloquently for me. It seems like you can't link separate posts directly, but the one from September 18 adresses the issue, as well as several preceding. A taste:
S.T. Joshi wrote:Older then maintains that, in “honouring†writers like Lovecraft, both their literary contributions and their political views must be considered.
Perhaps some stance of 'absolute pacificm' might take hold (not as far-fetched an idea as it may seem, given that the unfalsifiable woo of 'the patriarchy' has a certain solid support in modern progressive circles). In which case, Peez would likely be judged a thoroughly reprehensible and vile human being for the violence of his language, which he also encouraged amongst his disciples. However, I will concede that any unlikelihood of such will be largely down to Peez's inevitable irrelevance.

I imagine they will have to build Morris International Airport soon to handle the number of people in this 'great uprising'.
http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/ ... ty-of-god/I have a different metaphor for us, my brothers and sisters in atheism. We are not sheep; there are no shepherds here. I look out from this stage and I see 4000 pairs of hunter’s eyes, 4000 hunter’s minds, 4000 pairs of hunter’s hands. I see the primeval primate hunting band grown large and strong. I see us so confident in our strength that we laugh at our enemies. I see a people thinking and planning, fierce and focused, learning and building new tools to conquer new worlds.
You are not sheep. You, my brothers and sisters in atheism, are a fierce, coordinated hunting pack — men and women working together, and those other bastards have cause to fear us. So let’s do it: make them tremble as we demolish the city of god.
Grand Promenade of Morris (that is, The Bike Path), 2Â and
a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the
signs he had performed by casting out misogyny. 3Â Then
Peezus went up on a hay bale and sat down with his disciples.
4Â The Gender Equality Pay Day Festival was near.
5Â When Peezus looked up and saw a great crowd coming
toward him, he said to Thimbledick, “Where shall we buy lefse
for these people to eat? Surely not at Wal*Mart.†6 He asked
this only to test him, for he knew Thimbledick was a bit slow in
the head, and Peezus always got a laugh out of confusing him.
7 Thimbledick answered him, “It would take more than half a
year’s pop-up ad revenue to buy enough lefse for each one to
have a bite!†8 Another of his disciples, Regreta, spoke up,
9 “Here is a boy born in the body of a girl with five small lefse
and two small cans of lutefisk, but how far will they go among
so many?†10 Peezus said, “Have the people sit down.†There
was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five
thousand men, wymyn, and otherkin were there), careful to avoid
the numerous cow patties. 11Â Peezus then took the lefse, gave
thanks to his father in heaven, Jay Gould, and distributed to
those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same
with the lutefisk. 12Â When they had all had enough to eat, he
said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let
nothing be wasted. I can use the left-overs for my next book ... I
mean, miracle.†13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets
with the pieces of the five lefse left over by those who had eaten.
14Â After the people saw the sign Peezus performed, they began to
say, “Surely this is the Fifth Horseman who is to come into the world.â€

"1.1 - The signing of this form does not constitute consensual sex. If the party who was acted upon...." for we all know that sex is something men do TO women "...should feel uneasy about this event at any time before, during or after its occurrence then a rape has occurred. The active party should take full responsibility for HIS misogynistic actions and be punished for his crime accordingly.
1.2 - There is no time limit on this clause and the party that was acted upon my file a rape allegation at any time and must be believed by all even in the absence of evidence"
Gotta love the small print

So let me get this straight. Greta Christina rails on Sam Harris for saying that sexism and misogyny are not the only factors to explain differences in social status between men and women, why for instance only 5% of Fortune 500 companies are run by women. She calls this statement sexist. She also says his statement that men are more likely to be critical of bad ideas, or rather that the "critical posture is to some degree intrinsically male", is sexist.
Now, Phil Zuckerman chimes in, saying basically the same thing, it's not just about sexism, men are more likely to be atheists, etc, etc, and what is her response:
http://freethoughtblogs.com/greta/2014/ ... f-atheism/
WHAT?

I never got around to establishing exactly what a "good chance" meant. I do recall thinking that I did not want to expose myself to it. I also recall the Doctor explained what was going to happen.comhcinc wrote: Any time you go under the knife something can go wrong. I would like to know what a "good chance" was.
I am a little fuzzy about the details because not only had I been in constant pain, but I was also abruptly falling down in sometimes very inconvient places without any warning. I do remember very clearly though that the process involved injecting "meat tenderiser".
(Yes the Doctor used that term "meat tenderiser". No pulling punches that guy)
Guys, this is kind of awkard. The way I see it some of you appear to think that I am supporting the Chriopractic field. The truth is I never would have gone to see one under normal circumstances. Note that my insurance did not cover visits to a Chriopractor either.
The one I went to see was recommended, not some random one picked out of the yellow pages. I thought it was inconvient to see him as while I was living in Richmond Hill he was in Newmarket/Aurora area, but I ran into someone I knew there one day, who was coming from much further away ... Burlington.
And I remember thinking at the time ... "Holy FUCK!! He goes to see a Chriopractor ... I had no clue".
