Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Check out Lyle McDonald + Alan Aragon for some excellent, scientifically grounded info on primarily nutrition, also training, with a highly practical focus. They cut through a lot of flat out woo very well.
Beware one thing if you ever choose to interact directly. Lyle McDonald has as many personality disorders as freethoughtblogs.

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Thanks for all this input. I think I am pretty much on the right track. Here is my usual week.
Monday: Sit on my ass at work. Walk a bit a few times a day. Normal eating and drinking (alcohol included)
Tuesday: 500 calories for lunch (almost no carbs). Walk a bit during the day. Weights for about an hour. run a 5k. stretch. 100-200 calories of protein before bed.
Wednesday: see Monday
Thursday: 500 calories for lunch (almost no carbs). Walk a bit during the day. Weights for about an hour. run a 5k. stretch. 100-200 calories of protein before bed.
Friday: see Monday
Saturday: eat 500 calories snacking during the day. run a 5k. eat a regular dinner and drinks.
Sunday: mostly like Monday except I usually do chores around the house.
When I stick with this I lose about a pound a week. If I don't fast twice a week I add about a half pound a week.
Over the past two years of this routine I lost about 14 pounds (I am 5'9" and 164). I can lift about twice the amount when I started. I think I am doin okay overall. I have put on a ton of muscle.
I think I will add a half hour of incline walking on tuesday and thursday so I can get ready do backpack next summer. This will add about 300 more calories of fat burn and work my calves.
I do about 10 different machines for arms, legs, back, a routine on the cables for my chest and back, shrugs.... about two sets of 12 reps each.
The thing a wonder about is the order of my weights vs. my 5k run. I have read that I should run first in some places and I have also read that the order doesn't matter.
I do know enough to do a warmup first... followed by weights and cardo... followed by stretching.
Mostly I started doing this because of back pain... and then I have been able to stick with it. My back is so much better when I get a regular workout. I have a bulging disc at my L5 and it causes pain in my thighs due to nerve pinching. It is a drag getting old, but I am in my best shape ever at 53 years old.... so I can't complain too much.

In the last few pages we've had reference to Gresley, Churchward and Bulleid. All we need is someone from Crewe to speak up for Stanier.
BTW, I've just discovered that Zofran can actually constipate you so much that you don't need to wipe. It breaks off clean and dry. But I'm still out of breath from the effort of getting that far. :?

The last two days have sucked because the weather has been so wet and rainy that I can't lift:( Can't even work on my trails, which I had hoped to complete before the snow falls. I wish I had horses too, then I could go trail riding! Speaking of which...my neighbour, a couple km through the woods, has horses, and, this brings me to a pit detective mystery for yall.Matt Cavanaugh wrote:I had to go into civilization today to run errands. On Sunday, instead of lifting, I went for a walk through the woods to my neighbours property. He has been building a beautiful new house for the past two years. He is incredibly OCD about safety, and won't leave any greasy rags around the house etc.
The house burned down this Sunday. It went up in 7 minutes. He had just moved all of his belongings into the basement. There is no electricity as of yet, and as I said, he is anal about safety, and was in fact extra careful because he didn't have insurance for complicated reasons.
Here it is: So, how could the house have caught fire if there is no electricity as of yet, and no greasy rags to speak of that could spontaneously combust? Now, where things get interesting, is that a few months ago, a vandal jumped into a front end loader on the property and tried to vandalized the son's car...and a few years ago someone threatened the wife with the words "I will make your family pay." So, either this is some magical spontaneously combustible house, or these people are the victims of arson.

The house is right next to a brand new subdivision that is full of empty, under-construction houses. No one has tried to vandalize them, least of all burn em up.

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Stephanie Zvan has written a second article all about me. Continues to clutch at straws.
To make matters relatively short: in the first article titled “What Aneris Meansâ€, she uses my nickname to insinuate worldviews I allegedly have, and claims throughout the article I was an adherent of postmodernism (false). That is essentially a protracted ad hominem fallacy, since she wants to convey that my views are therefore unreliable. I know you think, there’s worse than “You… you… bloody, filthy … postmodernist!!11!†– or maybe not. I just don’t like some person with a louder voice proclaim what views they believe I have, based on nothing.
I am not a postmodernist. There are simply a few more ways how you can prevent the confusion of map and territory, while not throwing the map away and claiming it’s arbitrary anyway. A good point to peddle some Uncle Bob, Pope of Discordianism and his central views...
Make sure you have your irony meters not only switched off but stored away in a safe location. This goes way over 5000+ μzvan.
In the second article Stephanie Zvan spends another few paragraphs on postmodernism and concludes that she knew all along that I don’t subscribe to it. Wait what!? She wrote a whole article (first one) claiming I was a postmodernist, when she knew that I am not. She admits that she lied. And she revealed that in the follow up article in all seriousness called “Honesty Matters, Anerisâ€.
Now onto some quote-mining*

Its part woo sounding, or not? Maybe Bob is a genius, as it is almost a demonstration of what he says, since everything he says can also be interpreted as “congruence fallacy†and “confirmation bias†based on his own words and whatever doesn’t work falls under “don’t swallow anyone’s B.S. fullyâ€. Hence, I view Discordianism as anti-platonistic, anti-dogma, anti-narrative.

She treats the text with as much contempt as the typical post-modernist pretending to be superior does, and thereby accuses another of being a post-modernist. Ironic. Ha ha, and she's not really a dugong, nor is FTB North Korea (doesn't have enough sycophants to control the territory).

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
I must admit to being wrong about Nugent:
1. It seems he had been privately taking Myers to task for some time. I had accused him and most leaders of being far too late to the party which has resulted in considerable damage.
2. It is not just about defending his friends. His public statements are a natural result of failures in his private attempts.
As an act of contrition I will say drink 10 Bloody Mary's and consume 6 Pints of Guinness.

All you 'pitlords can fuck right off with your cold fall weather and wood stove privileges. It's still in the mid- to high 80s here, FFS. Our nighttime lows are probably higher than your daytime highs. :bjarte:
My house doesn't even have a fireplace (because ... when the fuck would I use it?), and during mild winters I might turn the heat (central, electric) on a handful of times. One winter I didn't turn it on at all.
I think I'm insufficiently völkisch to be a 'pitter, actually. Never used a chainsaw or chopped wood. Hate lifting weights and otherwise working out at the gym, and just cancelled my gym membership. The gym smells bad and it's full of ridiculously vain people who drive as if their pubic hair is on fire. Love endurance sports and prolonged aerobic exercise: running, swimming, cycling, hiking. Currently getting into racing trim for a half-marathon in early December; next year I hope to make it a full marathon. Live in a near-suburban smallholding of <0.1 acre, and grow vegetables in the backyard. Sold my F-250.
I did grill something for dinner, but it was marinated portobello mushrooms.

Impressive.Tony Parsehole wrote:In my experience:John D wrote:Okay Pitters..... one of youse probably knows the truth. What the fuck is up with this lifting vs. cardo. and protein powder shit?
The reason I ask is that I have a pretty regular weight exercise and cardio routine. I get the feeling I am doin it wrong... or that all the lifting, anti-cardio, protein power stuff is a bunch of bs.
I can't wade through the pile of internet bullshit to find any real answers.
If you want to be big and ripped then it's usually a case of eating shit loads (and I mean shit loads) of food, lifting very heavy weights with few reps and doing minimal cardio for a few months then completely cutting down on your carbs and general calorie intake and doing tons of cardio for a few weeks. You lose a bit of the muscle you put on from not eating and lifting but you'll burn the excess fat you laid down much quicker and you'll end up looking big and ripped. The downside is if you don't keep the calories and weight routine up you'll lose the muscle and once you start eating 'properly' again and cutting down on the cardio you'll pile the weight back on so it's quite hard to keep that ripped look for a long time.
If you just want to look decent with your shirt off then regular weights and cardio 4-5 times a week with either an ab or oblique session every day will do fine. I call it a maintainence period. Doing 5 sets of different weight exercises per body part (chest, legs, arms, shoulders, back) once a week with a bit of cardio on that day works fine for me.
Look into intermittent fasting too if you want to lose fat quickly and keep a fair bit of muscle. This can be doing 2 fast days a week (eating only 500 calories of lean protein) and/or eating all your days food in an 8 hour window (usually 9am-5pm depending on when you train).
I was 18-19 stone muscle/fat in January and got down to 13 stone (ottermode!) by August quite easily with the main part of the weight loss coming in the last few months.
Browsing established bodybuilding forums can be really helpful and tend not to tolerate as much bro culture as you'd think.
It's sad that I know stuff like this.
So you had the pecs and all, clearly getting tonnes of minge, but how did you disguise your Sugarpuff teeth?

Very interesting -- I simply can't wear a wrist watch because my skin reacts with the strap. I've tried leather, stainless steel, plastic acrylic, and even wood -- and all with the same result: after a few hours my wrist gets itchy, and then forms a raised bumpy rash that takes weeks to heal. During the healing process it becomes all scaly.I also get contact dermatitis easily, so my skin is irritable. And I'm a migraineur, so my brain is irritable. I'm also in a pissy mood much of the time. But that's just because I'm a raging misanthrope.
