While I don't personally care, and I've already pointed out is by FAR Red Pillers and a few PUA's that have problems with this movie, I do feel they have one really really big legitimate gripe IF what I have been hearing about the movie is true:
It's called Mad Max and not only is he not played by Mel Gibson (which you could get away with casting him, depending) but most importantly its NOT called "Chereze Theron". Supposedly SHE does most of the important stuff.
The other thing I've heard is that as brutal as the 'villain ' is, he's doing what is necessary for him and those under him to survive, and supposedly (warning SPOILERS though not much) by freeing the slaves, arguably people will start fighting over resources and dying again. If that's true, then perhaps killing the Patriarch wasn't such a good idea...

Watch out, Greta! This stuff is beyond even your worst nightmares:She squatted down in front of Nick, who was kneeling and leaning in to get a closer look at her anus. It slowly dilated as the feces pushed its way out. The suspense nearly killed him as the tip entered his view while emerging from her anus. The few seconds seemed like hours as the contents of her bowels slowly slid out from the lower opening of her alimentary canal, her anus widening more and more in the process. Once finally released, the feces dropped to the ground beneath her. Anna let out a sigh of relief and even shivered a bit from how wonderful it felt.
Nick was occupied with staring at the majesty that lay on the grass before him. He made keen observations on the size (quite large for such a slender girl) and consistency of the waste that his sweet angel had just excreted. He clenched it in his fist to examine it better. It was neither too firm nor too soft. No "corn-like chunks" were present. He was able to mold it as if it were silly putty. He was very impressed with what a fine job she had done. So impressed that he began masturbating with it still in his hand, using it as a lubricant. While trying to spread it all over his penis, he noticed his clearly irritated wife, impatiently waiting for him to fulfill his duties. Since they had no material possessions, the two had to come up with an alternative to toilet paper. Anna allowed Nick to cleanse her using his tongue, while Nick generally lets himself air-dry.

Nice fencing mask - looks much better than the one I wore, back in the Cretaceous Period. Yes, I learned fencing at a Texas salle with an honest-to-Darwin former French Olympian (sabre) fencing master. He thought the women should only fence with a foil, grudgingly taught a few women modern pentathletes to fence epee (yes I know there's an accent but I can't remember were to put it), and believed that women who fenced sabre "weren't really women."Phil_Giordana_FCD wrote:Not joking much:Kirbmarc wrote:https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/23 ... e28941.jpgPhil_Giordana_FCD wrote:Oh dear! For quite sometime, there was consideration to spinning off Jinx from Die Another Day into her own secret agent franchise:Co-writer/director George Miller was recently on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith (via The Playlist) podcast, where he talked about Fury Road and its potential sequels. Here’s what he had to say:
We’ve got one screenplay [for the second film] and a novella [for the third]. It happened because with the delays [on 'Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded. [The second one] is called ‘The Wasteland.’ ‘Mad Max: The Wasteland.’
The fact that George Miller has already begun developing sequels to Fury Road isn’t really news. Indeed, we’ve known that was the case going back to 2010, when Miller said that two sequels were in the works – as a result of creating backstories for the characters in Fury Road – and that the second one would be titled ‘Furiosa’ after Charlize Theron’s character.
So the news here, then, is that the next film is (apparently) no longer titled Mad Max: Furiosa, but will instead be titled Mad Max: The Wasteland. Whether or not that means it’s an altogether new idea/film or the same idea/film with a new title is unclear, though one presumes there’s some connection. After all, Miller’s been a bit too busy making Fury Road to craft an all-new script for a follow-up.
https://www.google.com/search?q=jinx%20bond%20spinoff
Now, Die Another Day was a shitty movie with it's invisible car, even Roger Moore thought it sucked:
But had it been good, if DAD had been 85% Jinx and 15% Bond, would people have been right to complain it was a Jinx movie? (I think so.)Roger Moore remarked, "I thought it just went too far – and that’s from me, the first Bond in space! Invisible cars and dodgy CGI footage? Please!
That's an ends justify the means argument that I dislike, but I dunno, many people now look back with some good reasons at Saddam Hussein's regime wistfully.Clarence wrote:The other thing I've heard is that as brutal as the 'villain ' is, he's doing what is necessary for him and those under him to survive, and supposedly (warning SPOILERS though not much) by freeing the slaves, arguably people will start fighting over resources and dying again. More interesting, is that in Laurie Penny's review:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/lauriepenny/the ... e-feminist
“Mad Max†Is A Feminist Playbook For Surviving Dystopia
What might happen if women’s rights evaporate has been examined in nightmare detail. Mad Max: Fury Road offers a solution.
She writes of a detail I haven't seen anywhere else and so apart from her, no other feminist has brought up:
If I read Penny correctly, her review like so many others is of how Toxic Masculinity destroyed the world, and continues to destroy it, but hey look, the Matriarchy was pretty shitty too until Furiosa came along. In Fury Road, the answer is the same. Furiosa’s initial plan is to take the Wives to “The Green Place,†where women live in safety and harmony. But when they get there, it’s a toxic swamp, peopled by a handful of badass biker grannies (presumably the last survivors of the Feminist Twitter Wars). There is no utopia here. It turns out that there is no “Green Place,†no safe space for Furiosa and her charges to retreat to, no magic world without men.
After that, Penny like all the others ignores the fucked up granny matriarchy, and gives feminists a pass that she won't give to the men.
My take away would be the men were shit, the women were shit and the liberation of everyone must include liberating everyone. Penny prioritizes liberating women to liberate men. The usual feminist take on that is the men need to be sensitive as women are, take fewer risks as women do, not man spread, STFU and listen, squat to pee as women do, gossip and stab each other in the back on twitter.Nux is as much a victim of Joe’s death cult as any woman. He is terminally ill, painfully ignorant of the world, and spends most of the film getting punched in the face by someone or other. He has the capacity for sacrifice and even sweetness, although this is not a world where romantic love can survive for long. Most of the characters in Fury Road have clear precedents in science fiction and fantasy. Nux is something rare: the redeemable feminist ally as hero.
This, in Furiosa’s words, is a film about redemption. Not for everyone. The snarling, lurching patriarchs of this film probably need to die in flames, and Immortan Joe is the 1 percent in club makeup. In the end, we believe that the war boys, too, will be freed from slavery. Perhaps the real reason that this film has upset the neo-misogynists so very much is not just that it throws their Return of Kings fantasy into vivid, horrible relief, but that it offers the possibility of redemption for all of us.
Fury Road tells a simple, vital story, and it tells it in dazzling color with buckets of blood and bristling war trucks. The story is this: The liberation of women is the liberation of everyone, and there’s only one way to stay alive when the world burns. We must learn to survive each other, because we can’t survive without each other.

I tried sabre once, just to go against the dominant paradigm of the salle - didn't care for it, too many bruises and little whip-marks, even with the heavy jacket. In every system of morality, which I have hitherto met with, I have always remarked, that the author proceeds for some time in the ordinary ways of reasoning, and establishes the being of a God, or makes observations concerning human affairs; when all of a sudden I am surprised to find, that instead of the usual copulations of propositions, is, and is not, I meet with no proposition that is not connected with an ought, or an ought not.

This is my point when I say that the Irish shit seems to be turning people into unknowing libertarians.Shatterface as Guest wrote:There are two sources of rights.
The first is God. God created us all in his image and we are all equal before him. I don't think I find that persuasive.
The other is that rights exist because we accept they exist. Rights are a collective agreement. Without that agreement rights don't exist. Like money. If people stop believing in money it stops being money. Rights don't exist till we agree they exist and they cease to exist when we stop believing in them.
Which is why the rejection of certain rights on campuses is so worrying.
When rights began they belonged for the few. Rights expanded because more people demanded them and others were forced to concede to those demands. Sometimes the struggle was violent, sometimes legalistic, sometimes the result of philosophical debate.
There are no natural rights. It's simply false to say gay people already had the right to marry. In many countries they don't even have the right to life. Women in Ireland don't currently have the right to abortions. That right is still being fought for.

Right now I do not have the spoons to track down the study(s) they mention but this should more or less give you an idea.
I suppose to head off a rant from someone, I should add that without actually knowing anything about the people I could be completely wrong and it may in fact have nothing to do with anything in this case.
However, I have noticed that some people, much more than others do appear to require much stricter policing to make them conform to certain social structures, and given the slightest opportunity will behave with a certain lack of self control that any 17 year old male will appreciate.
I have fond memories to this day of two sisters ... both of them, and they were fine with sharing.

It's thought to be like a "sleep start" or "hypnic jerk" (jerking movement that happens at interface of sleep/wake, usually when a person is falling asleep, often associated with - or following - a brief sensation of falling) except that "exploding head syndrome" is a loud, sudden sound you hear inside your head, not a sudden movement you make.
And it has nothing to do with thyroid or eyebrows.
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
I thought a hypnic jerk was a rub-a-tug-tug to relax you just before dropping off to sleep.

What makes it so irritating is that, only after so many incidents, you realise that it's actually your brain making shit up.Skep tickle wrote:Sorry to hear you get this (but you have to admit it's been given a great name).TiBo wrote:Just came to realise that I have one of the whackiest conditions out there, tho 'chronical' - Exploding Head Syndrome.

Before that, I always thought there had been ~some~ kind of sound somewhere that my brain had just misinterpreted, but no - the brain just comes up with really funny shit, like a huge pile of kitchen dishes crashing down on the floor; a really pleasant sound to begin with - but when your brain adds the information that the whole thing just happened in the bathroom, you realise something doesn't quite add up ^^ The first few times when it happens, you go looking, because the lord knows what could've happened, but you find nothing and return to bed. It's really irritating.
My personal favorite is the door bell imitation. My door bell is some ugly buzzing sound, and when you "hear it" buzzing in the middle of the night, as if the door bell was located right next to your bed, it is unsettling. Other stuff like shotgun sounds are trivial by comparison, because another part of the brain has immediately recognised its bogus nature before adrenalin release was commanded, so you can laugh and go on sleeping.
Never thought this was a thing until I read about it.

But from what I can glean from the symptoms, I guess I have it too. I remember one time where I awoke with a start and I had this excessive ringing in my ear. I'd always thought it was tinnitus, because I reluctantly spent an evening during a school trip in a very loud disco bar and my ears were ringing for quite a while afterwards and it's been doing that since. I also remember at the time that when I got out of bed, my eyes totally glazed over. It got better as the ringing subsided. It only lasted for a few minutes but it was very uncomfortable.
For a name like "Exploding Head Syndrome", though, you'd expect something like this.

I ditched all the old rusty and smelly gear when I moved from New Orleans - most awkward stuff I've ever left in the alley for bulky trash pickup. Though it was New Orleans - I'm sure they've seen weirder. :D

That sounds way worse than what I get. I only ever experience the loud ringing. Maybe it just is tinnitus after all.TiBo wrote:What makes it so irritating is that, only after so many incidents, you realise that it's actually your brain making shit up.Skep tickle wrote:Sorry to hear you get this (but you have to admit it's been given a great name).TiBo wrote:Just came to realise that I have one of the whackiest conditions out there, tho 'chronical' - Exploding Head Syndrome.

Oh, hey. This is an actual thing. I just thought it was "fucking annoying inexplicably terrifying dreams". I had the phone/doorbell a lot as a kid. Now it's mostly the flash-bang kind. I hate suddenly waking up with my heart going fuck-off crazy, paranoid that something just happened.TiBo wrote:What makes it so irritating is that, only after so many incidents, you realise that it's actually your brain making shit up.

They pulled that one around a month after publication. I think it was when Radford made it clear he was going to involve lawyers and not just get steamrollered.Brive1987 wrote:Slate has pulled the Marcotte diatribe against Radford.

It wasn't the first time Slate yanked one of her columns. I don't know why they use her to begin with, she's not in any sense a journalist. All she does is gather stuff from publicly available sources, arranges it to comply with a narrative, and fills the spaces with her characterizations. It's like they don't care she nullifies the years they've put into criticizing Fox News.
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
It'd be nice if this catches on. Maybe in a few years people will be able to ask, "Did you go to a real university or a Fisher-Price university?"
Purdue adopts 'Chicago principles' to protect free speech
A new policy at Purdue University stresses its commitment to free speech regardless of how "unwelcome, disagreeable or even deeply offensive" the language is.
Trustees this month approved a policy modeled on free speech principles first approved by the University of Chicago in January. The move makes Purdue the first public university to adopt the measure, which also is in place at Princeton University.
The "Chicago principles" arose from a string of events that tested universities' commitment to open discourse, according to a report by University of Chicago's Committee on Freedom of Expression. The group was formed in July 2014 after incidents in which students on campuses across the country tried to bar controversial commencement speakers.
Purdue's policy states that members of the university are free to criticize speakers but says they "may not obstruct or otherwise interfere with the freedom of others to express views they reject or even loathe."
Trustees Chairman Tom Spurgeon said the principles signal Purdue's commitment to free speech. "A university violates its special mission if it fails to protect free and open debate. No one can expect his views to be free from vigorous challenge, but all must feel completely safe in speaking out," he said in a university news release......

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
This is REALLY good news. It means that genuine freethinkers will be going to schools like Purdue and UChicago, and their reputations and achievements will start to be recognized. With a bit of luck, it will drive trendy PoMo academics out of big universities. Of course, with tenure, it'll take a generation to remove the infestation, but it'll be worth the wait if it happens...Ape+lust wrote:It'd be nice if this catches on. ...Christine Mann, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services said in a phone* interview Thursday that only three cases of chlamydia have been confirmed in the entire Crane County within the past few weeks and only eight cases since Jan. 1. Those numbers include all residents, not just students.
