This is an apology for a mistake I made. In a comment thread on Ophelia Benson’s blog about the effects of porn on unwanted violence in the bedroom, I gave as examples for my own points relating to that cases from my own personal sexual experience, which despite one content warning nevertheless got too detailed and explicit for Benson and many of her readers.

I became too defensive when attacked over that and I handled the whole matter poorly. I was too blinded by defensiveness in fact to adequately see things from other people’s perspective. Although some people appreciated what I wrote, and I value their perspective too, others who’s opinions I also respect did not, and that caused me to reexamine everything and (I hope) recognize where I went wrong and what to do about it.

I don’t want to distance myself from the people who thanked me, who included people who feel isolated from what men actually think or can think about sex and were glad to have access to it for a change, and people who deal with being attacked and demeaned and shamed for their fetishes and kinks and were thus understandably defensive about people seeming to attack and demean and shame me for the same.

But there are better ways to serve those needed ends. And I understand that now. I am always very frank and open about my sexlife. And I am often surrounded by people who are the same, and who appreciate that. So I too easily forget the world does not live in that bubble. And I didn’t realize the significance of that before now.

Explicit content is not universally wrong. It can even still serve the purposes I originally stated there and intended. And I may blog separately about that, in a better way. But content warnings are necessary for that even in your own space. And they aren’t sufficient in another’s space. You need to know it’s permitted there first, that it will be acceptable. And I now realize it’s your responsibility to check that beforehand. Because what results if you don’t can affect people badly in ways you don’t intend and wouldn’t want.

To all of those people who were harmed by my actions, I apologize. I did not want to cause harm, and regret having done so. This is another mistake in my life I shall endeavor to improve myself on and not make again. And I thank those whose remarks helped me to see that.

There are better ways to advocate for wider acceptance of sexuality and sexual diversity, and better ways to discuss the impact of porn on our lives too.

Yeah, censor Damion too! Let them rot on a forgotten thread, clinging to each other for cold comfort...

Nah, as much as I think Daimy-poo has been a cunt with his infantile attempts at gotcha, and Steerstard a troll, I would be against banishing. It seems against the nature of the pit.
I'm sure I'll be in the majority vote here, but just to throw my voice in and confirm, yeah. Leave the assholes like Damion and Steersman alone. Damion in particular would be happy to point towards Steersman's censorship as evidence we're no different than the people we mock. The ignore function (or a well-toned scroll finger in my case) is an adequate solution.

It seems clear (?) that "Non" doesn't apply to "people" or to its abbreviation "P" - it applies to the "oC" part.

So, then, wouldn't "PonC" or "PnC" - "People of non-color" of "People of no color" - be somewhat closer as a euphemism for "Caucasian" aka "white"? (Skin color of course not being the only feature people use in classifying themselves & others by race, and "origin in the Caucasus" and "white" both being inaccurate.)
The whole term supports the notion they are supposedly fighting against. It starts with the assumption that caucasian is the baseline and normal, and people who are not caucasian are abnormal. In their own lingo, isn't that enforcing the stereotypes, or the traditional view, or whatever the hell they want to call it?

Never built an Ikea anything before, but have built the walmart cheap products (bookshelves mostly). Your bias - and peevishness - is showing - again. Likewise your inability to discern differences, in this case that there's a difference between no credible knowledge of the subject or work in question, and knowledge of credible reviews and articles by other people on it.

I agree with Guest-who-reminds-me-of-Mykeru. I'd have put Steersman on ignore a couple of weeks ago if it wasn't destined to be ineffective due to the number of Pitters engaging with him. I don't think he's fundamentally a troll, but for the last few weeks his behavior has been indistinguishable from one. Stop feeding him.

In other news if anyone cares, New Horizons is almost at Pluto. It's fascinating seeing Pluto turn into an actual world as opposed to the small blurry collection of pixels we've always seen it as before. Based on the latest picture which shows actual geographical features, scientists think that there will be terabytes after endless terabytes of information returned by the probe.

I'm halfway through Galileo's Middle Finger by Alice Dreger and I can't recommend it enough. It really puts the whole SJW culture in context. She's been dealing with it since the end of the last century, and she is a social justice activist. The book explores multiple cases wherein identity politics clashed with scientific research. The first follows the attacks on transgender studies by Ray Blanchard and Mark Bailey and how transactivists work to smear and ruin them because they don't like that the findings of these studies clash with their personal narratives. The second goes into the attacks on anthropologist Napoleon Chagnon by small group of rival anthropologist who think they're working on behalf of oppressed Amazonian tribes.
The part I've just gotten to, is about use of dexamethasone on female fetuses congenital adrenal hyperplasia, to prevent masculinization.

Factors that these cases have in common: 1) The researchers are kind of socially tone deaf and impolitic. Despite what their detractors say, the researchers are almost always advocates for the people who they are researching. Blanchard and Bailey are both pro SRS for trans people. JadeHawk when she quoted me citing Blanchard told the Pharyngutards that Blanchard pushes conversion therapy which is untrue.
2) The mob gets stirred up by a narcissistic personality with animus towards the people involved. In the Bailey/Blanchard case it's a psychopathic trans named Andrea James. For Napoleon Chagnon it was 2 rival anthropologists named Terence Turner and Leslie Sponsel. BTW-it's not just lefties who do this. Margaret Mead suffered similar treatment from a right wing nut case back in the 80's, as did Alfred Kinsey.
3)The detractors think of themselves as good people fighting for the oppressed, but don't hesitate to lie, smear, and intimidate.

Another interesting thing is that it took me 3 visits to the book store to buy this book. The first time I was there, their computer listed it as in stock but it couldn't be found on the shelves. Later a clerk told me that they removed the book because someone complained about the cover being obscene. This is very weird because the cover is not obscene and this is a very well known bookstore in a very liberal area-not the kind of place easily offended conservatives go to. So the clerk said that they would call me when they found the book. I never got a call. Went back a week or so later and still nobody could find the book, so I ordered one. Putting on my tinfoil hat, I'd say that there are people who don't want this book read, so they take it from its place and hide it among the stacks.

I don't have a drill, but rather than go out and buy one, I'm just going to pay $25 and do it the lazy way where all I have to do is answer the door, pay, and say thanks. As easy as getting a pizza. :)
Don't buy a cordless drill. They're expensive and the batteries don't last. A good old fashion drill with a cord is cheap and does the job. Another tip is to put a little piece of scotch tape over the spot your going to drill or screw. It keeps the veneer from cracking.

Yeah, censor Damion too! Let them rot on a forgotten thread, clinging to each other for cold comfort...

Nah, as much as I think Daimy-poo has been a cunt with his infantile attempts at gotcha, and Steerstard a troll, I would be against banishing. It seems against the nature of the pit.
d4m10n is not prolific enough to be annoying. I used to enjoy some of his comments a while back. But after his last round of trying to lay a trap for people that no one walked into, and then turned around grabbing the filmiest of evidence to try and make his failed case, I opted to block him.

Kind of sad, but what do you do with someone who lays weak ass traps, but recognize it and not walk into them. So blocked he is.

I never trusted any word of mouth talk about d4m10n. He eventually provided the evidence all on his own.

Nah. I have reGretaVirus. I have to do it the lazy way. But if I do ever get myself another drill, it will be a good old fashioned plug in type. I won't be needing it anywhere there's no power cords.

They really needed to hire someone from Google or some other tech-web firm that had experience in monetization and could successfully increase monetization without harming traffic. But they didn't.

Instead they hired a 'celebrity,' second-tier venture capitalist who was actually babied and got preferential treatment at her old job, spent much of her time trying to ruin the careers (sometimes successfully) of other women at the firm and then turned around and attacked them like the snake she is all while wearing the garb of feminism...

It's funny how that trial has turned around and bit her in the ass. And how the fiasco at Reddit has show Conde Nast really doesn't have a clue now and didn't have a clue when they bought it.

And, btw, Pao is smart, well-educated and hardworking. She just sucks as a human and that's why she fails.
I wonder if she is now unemployable? Anything less than a CEO now would be seen as a failure and though some people who have bought the Misogynist/Racist line may be sympathetic, the venture capitalists might see her as too much of a risk. The separation from reddit was all hugs and kisses but I wonder how much behind that was "You don't sue us for misogyny and we wont tell the world how much you fucked up"

I'm not making a size joke here. I'm going to have to call a handyman guy I know to finish it one of these days. It's all wobbly right now. Some of Ikea's unassembled stuff is crap. I'm not a fan.

I've assembled a lot of Ikea in my life, but never run into any problems. In your case, I'd take the table back and ask them if this is a production error in the table, or in the customer's brain.

But if you really want them screws in, get yourself an electric screwdriver or one of the cheaper battery drills/screw drivers.

btw What are the screws in that photo supposed to accomplish? Which table is this?

I don’t want to distance myself from the people who thanked me, who included people who feel isolated from what men actually think or can think about sex and were glad to have access to it for a change, and people who deal with being attacked and demeaned and shamed for their fetishes and kinks and were thus understandably defensive about people seeming to attack and demean and shame me for the same.

Couldn't disagree more. The ability of my cordless drill to reach into difficult spaces, and/or places far from an electrical outlet (e.g., rooftop), has made me a complete convert. Plus, it doubles as a screwdriver / socket driver / etc. Best tool I ever bought.

Ah right, but if you'd lived in for example Denmark, you'd pay in the order of $75 just for the honour of a 'handyman' to start their car and take it 3 km to your door, and that's where the hourly wages of $60 per hour start, with a minimum of 30 minutes or so. Oh, that's ex the 25% VAT.

If you can figure out which type of handyman you need, that is. Carpenters do, whatchacallit, carpenting, masons cement stones, tilers cement tiles and so on; but there's precious litte chance they'll tread on each other's territory, so in many cases you may end up with two handymen and their cars having to come to your place.

And then they're surprised people find general-purpose workers from Poland to get the frickin' job done already.

I've gone through 2 where the battery wouldn't hold a charge. I'm fine with extension cords now, and my $10 drill does all the things your's does.

Just wanted to register my non-cooperation with the collective fellating of Breitbart that's being going on around here of late.
I'm reasonably sure that Bin Laden would have been just opposed to the tide of Baboonery as Breitbart. Being right about something so bleeding obvious hardly qualifies that crew of Neocon cocksuckers for hugs.
Milo is a terminally smug, self-impressed cunt who has convinced himself that going after easy targets somehow makes him the next Hitchens (yes, I know we all go after the same low-hanging fruit, but I don't think any of us believe that it qualifies us as public intellectuals).
Breitbart himself was an irredeemable dick, and bully, whose death I celebrated. He directly threatened every American who was not "one of us".
Fine.
You insist on living in a suburban tract home, driving a minivan, being married, breeding kids, playing golf on Saturday mornings, going to church on Sunday mornings, listening to talk radio, watching Fox "News", and despising every other fucking human being on the planet - go for it.
You want to try and bully me into conforming with that lifestyle - you better be ready to fucking fight.
