FTB rankingis dropping fast. Note however, this isn't 100% related to total page views as per the graph below, showing weekly page views. The drop is still evident but not as steep.

I think that ranking is still very important as it shows that people are spending more time on the web and more people are going on the web, FTB is not getting it's share of it.

It's possible that, partly due to a business trip that I've been dreading, kicking off in the early hours of Monday morning, that I might be slighty grouchy.

On a happier note, I just noticed Phil has broken the 8,000 post barrier in is closing in inexorably on Welch.
Way to go Robofrog!

Milo is a terminally smug, self-impressed cunt who has convinced himself that going after easy targets somehow makes him the next Hitchens (yes, I know we all go after the same low-hanging fruit, but I don't think any of us believe that it qualifies us as public intellectuals).
Breitbart himself was an irredeemable dick, and bully, whose death I celebrated. He directly threatened every American who was not "one of us".
Fine.

I see Milo more of stealing Andrew Sullivan's act, but I do enjoy his interactions with the SJWs.

No, that's nonsense. Cordless drills are not expensive any more, and modern Li-Ion batteries last ages. Problem with 230V drills is you almost certainly need an extension wire, putting most of the garden out of reach, and they're generally way heavier, making them awkward for screwing purposes.

Plus, you can drill into the wire, muhahaha.

Pao's job was to monetize Reddit. The problem is that Reddit doesn't actually do anything but host chat rooms and generate hundreds-of-millions of page views, so it's opportunities are limited. And, of course, Pao knew nothing of how to monetize something like Reddit.

They really needed to hire someone from Google or some other tech-web firm that had experience in monetization and could successfully increase monetization without harming traffic. But they didn't.

Instead they hired a 'celebrity,' second-tier venture capitalist who was actually babied and got preferential treatment at her old job, spent much of her time trying to ruin the careers (sometimes successfully) of other women at the firm and then turned around and attacked them like the snake she is all while wearing the garb of feminism...

It's funny how that trial has turned around and bit her in the ass. And how the fiasco at Reddit has show Conde Nast really doesn't have a clue now and didn't have a clue when they bought it.

And, btw, Pao is smart, well-educated and hardworking. She just sucks as a human and that's why she fails.
I wonder if she is now unemployable? Anything less than a CEO now would be seen as a failure and though some people who have bought the Misogynist/Racist line may be sympathetic, the venture capitalists might see her as too much of a risk. The separation from reddit was all hugs and kisses but I wonder how much behind that was "You don't sue us for misogyny and we wont tell the world how much you fucked up"
Gawker may cease to exist as we know it soon because they decided to publish the Hulk Hogan sex tape and call it journalism. (While condemning the Fappening hacks as evil.)
I heard that Gawker will have a good chance of winning the case. Laughable as it may seem, in a legal sense they are enough of a news site to get away with it. If it got posted to Pornhub then it would have been different.
Ellen Pao, new editor of Jezebel?
It would be seen as a demotion, that would entail Pao saying that she fucked up as a CEO. It might have worked if she claimed that misogyny drove her out, but she already said that she left because of a difference in direction.

There are some SJW friendly companies that on the surface may seem to want to hire her but the investors may have a different opinion.

Ah right, but if you'd lived in for example Denmark, you'd pay in the order of $75 just for the honour of a 'handyman' to start their car and take it 3 km to your door, and that's where the hourly wages of $60 per hour start, with a minimum of 30 minutes or so. Oh, that's ex the 25% VAT.

If you can figure out which type of handyman you need, that is. Carpenters do, whatchacallit, carpenting, masons cement stones, tilers cement tiles and so on; but there's precious litte chance they'll tread on each other's territory, so in many cases you may end up with two handymen and their cars having to come to your place.

And then they're surprised people find general-purpose workers from Poland to get the frickin' job done already.
The guy I'll get to do this is retired and a jack of all trades. And only $25 an hour, which should more than cover 16 screws. Wait, that doesn't sound right. :?

I'm not calling you a liar, of course, but I've only read articles that say Gawker might lose. Disavow me of that notion?

I just don't understand how in the hell Gawker could win such a case.
Hulk's attorney: "Can you present proof that you had consent to publish or even possess the video of Hulk banging that woman?"
Gawker asshole: "No, I cannot."
Judge: "Well, we're done here. Gawker owes Hulk a trillion dollars. Who wants fish tacos?"
As for Pao, she's going to have to go back to modern-day slip-and-fall lawsuits.

I've assembled a lot of Ikea in my life, but never run into any problems. In your case, I'd take the table back and ask them if this is a production error in the table, or in the customer's brain.

But if you really want them screws in, get yourself an electric screwdriver or one of the cheaper battery drills/screw drivers.

I know you're joking and it's a funny one.

But it bears pointing out that Carrier does not mandate "ongoing verbal enthusiastic consent."

From his Benson comments:

https://archive.is/gqitW#selection-3835.0-3835.564
This destroys the notion that it’s [humiliation/ejaculating on her face] intrinsically humiliating. If it drives her wild, she’s not humiliated, and therefore it’s not humiliating. Even if she’s indifferent to it, it’s not humiliating. Because indifference entails the absence of humiliation (exuberant enjoyment would be the diametric opposite, and fact is, that’s what some women feel about semen play). It doesn’t turn me on but it also doesn’t humiliate me if in the course of events another man’s semen gets on my face. It’s totally fine. I’m not going to freak out or worry I might catch The Gay.
If a woman is indifferent to an act, how in the world would that qualify as "ongoing verbal enthusiastic consent"?

What does "indifference" even sound like verbally? Would a fictitious exchange go like this?
Carrier: "Can I rub some of your boyfriend's semen on my cock and spurt into your eye, making sure I get a mixture of each into your orifice?"
Carrier's Girlfriend: "I have no particular interest or sympathy whether you spurt a semen mixture into my eye. I am unconcerned about the possibility. Such an act would feel neither good nor bad."
Carrier: "Sounds good to me!" squickquicksquicksquickquicksquicksquickquicksquick puuuuuuuuuhhhh
I think it's pretty clear that if Carrier has spurted on a woman's face when she wasn't "enjoying" it with "exuberance," then he has a problem.

With 4 retweets, and no likes...not too many people seem interested actually.

With it happening a little over a month from now, you would think twitter would be more abuzz.
Also, there is this I just checked here (if this is indeed the venue?)

Still nothing for Aug 22, although 21st is using the space

So maybe they have this one day?

Reserving a venue before a conference is a form of privilege. You are literally paying for the privilege of using the space for a predetermined time and for a predetermined purpose. Everyone who runs Secular Women Work lacks privilege, as they're middle-class white women.

Fulfilling crowdfunding obligations is part of Patriarchy.

Don't buy a cordless drill. They're expensive and the batteries don't last. A good old fashion drill with a cord is cheap and does the job. Another tip is to put a little piece of scotch tape over the spot your going to drill or screw. It keeps the veneer from cracking.
Couldn't disagree more. The ability of my cordless drill to reach into difficult spaces, and/or places far from an electrical outlet (e.g., rooftop), has made me a complete convert. Plus, it doubles as a screwdriver / socket driver / etc. Best tool I ever bought.
I have a Milwaukee 18 volt cordless and it's a beast & the batteries last. I do a lot of work where there's no power, so cordless is a must. I also have the Milwaukee SawzAll, which takes the same batteries, and that's a magnificent tool to have around.

Cordless circular saws suck, however.

For casual use around the house, a simple corded drill (used is better, as they were built sturdier back when) is fine. Or one of those cordless stick ones for light duty.

I think that ranking is still very important as it shows that people are spending more time on the web and more people are going on the web, FTB is not getting it's share of it.
Just by way of contrast...

For the first time (but hopefully not the last) Godfrey Elfwick makes more of a splash than PZ Myers, if only temporarily.

Well, now. How interesting. (Both the FTB decline & the crossing of Godfrey Elfwick & Myers' lines.)

I got one of those, a reciprocating saw, a drill, and a utility light with battery in one package for cheap.
The circular saw has been handy for trimming shingles, roofline, making shallow cuts in walls and other minor tasks.
Not much power, and a small diameter blade, but still comes in handy. Lightweight, saves having to haul cord around and is adequate for light tasks.
I had it for a while before I got any use out of it but it paid for itself so far and still works! 4/5

https://www.facebook.com/events/115363445466460/
So the room's reserved all day on Fri 8/21 but not for 8/22 or 8/23?

And the room's max is 36 people?

That does seem more reasonable for a new endeavor than attempting to hold a 3-day conference. However...

1) The kickstarter raised $13,743 with the writeup on fundraising goals saying:
Base Goal: $13,000

Reaching this goal would cover costs for our venue for a conference running Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, including equipment rental and basic refreshments like water and coffee. It would allow us to bring in six to seven speakers from outside the Twin Cities to share their expertise and draw on local activists for the rest, with major sessions recorded to be shared on YouTube after the conference. It would also cover the costs of raising conference funding through Kickstarter.
Donors might not have exactly been promised a 3-day conference, but that was the implication.

2) The ticket sales page at MNatheists.org doesn't exactly give the dates of the conference, but it says "Set aside August 21-23", & selecting "Conference Registration" leads to a page that includes this line: "We will welcome walk-in conference attendees on August 21-23."

Oddly, clicking on the Shopping Bag (as if to pay for conference registration) without having entered a name for the badge & an email address, the "cart" page shows me that my badge name will be [specific woman's name that's not mine] and the associated email is [an email address that's not mine but does match the specific woman's name on the badge]. Also, it shows me the dietary choices I've made...except I haven't. Hopefully that's just a one-off & they aren't inadvertently displaying a specific person's name & address (maybe the last person to purchase registration at that site?) to anyone who happens by. :(

Anyway, my point in (1) & (2) is that there appears to have been, & be, a promise to donors & ticket-purchasers that the conference will be 3 days long, if they don't deliver what they've been promising (even if 1 day is more realistic) they might end up with frustrated payers, & potentially be seen as violating an implied contractual arrangement.

Finally, as above, it looks like the room that's been reserved seats 36. And there are currently a total of 10 speakers (from here and here). But there were 76 donors whose donation level included conference registration as a "reward" (from here), though there may have been individuals who gave at more than 1 level and/or are now on the speaker list, so the number of individuals "entitled" to attend may not be quite as high as 86 (76 rewarded donors + 10 current speakers), but it's still likely that it's over 36.

Probably a powered tool would work (I normally use a drill for it). You can also remover the screws, and pretrial the hole with a drill several sizes smaller than the screw, and power the screws into the hole. Pre drilling usually works for most things, especially if it's a situation where the screws can crack the wood (not this particular case, but I've seen and done others).
I don't have a drill, but rather than go out and buy one, I'm just going to pay $25 and do it the lazy way where all I have to do is answer the door, pay, and say thanks. As easy as getting a pizza. :)

One thing I'll ask you in return: Did you think maybe by the end of the interview Harris was maybe having just a tiny bit of a crush on Megan? I google-imaged her and she's a bit cute - more 'handsome' than pretty; but something which struck me about her was she has an awesome voice - which might sound like a strange thing to find attractive, but what can I say... ;)
Yeah... I recall the Westboro women being sharp-minded & not-slobs. Except the mom did have a crapulent smarmy streak.
I recall watching the Louis Theroux documentary and both Megan and Grace were adorable.

At the time they were still wrapped up in the whole thing but, unlike their mother, you could tell there wasn't an ounce of hate in them (at least it seemed to me).
It was interesting how Megan was precise about what caused the scales to fall from her eyes. It was a polite (gasp) Twitter exchange with a Jewish guy that set things in train.

As Steers would put it (amongst a 2000 word dirge):
Rather puts the lie to the "perceived" FTB modus operandi of "comabatitive dialogue" achieving religious "questioning"; but, rather, as I would put it, "sauce for the goose".
NB In case you are plain fucking stupid, Steersman didn't actually say the above. So no-one quote it as if it were a comment made by Herr Steertler. OK. We good? :naughty:

Close, no cigar. Which you should have realized if you had any willingness to actually consider the specifics of my case. Which was, more or less, "cunt is to sexism as nigger is to racism as faggot is to sexism". That is, if any of the three epithets can be construed as sexist or racist, as the case may be, then, mutatis mutandis, the others have to be construed similarly.
James Caruthers wrote:I have some mixed-race relatives here today. Perhaps I should advance Steersman's unique perspective in their presence.
Seems like a fine idea to me; if of any value I might be available to answer any questions arising. As preparation, I might suggest taking a gander, or a goose, at this video of Lenny Bruce (not sure of its provenance):

Since the audio is a bit unclear, you could reference this script (more or less) in Wikiquote.

And to kind of kill two birds with one stone, and apropos of which, a passage from a recent (?) paper by 3 researchers at Rugers University titled, in the class "Inconvenient Truths", The Unbearable Accuracy of Stereotypes:
Perhaps equally understandable, but scientifically untenable, is the corresponding belief that because stereotypes contribute to these many malignant outcomes, that they must also be—in the main—inaccurate. The tacit equation is, if stereotypes are associated with social wrongs, they must be factually wrong. However, the accuracy of stereotypes is an empirical question, not an ideological one. For those of us who care deeply about stereotypes, prejudice, and social harmony, getting to the truth of these collective cognitions should guide inquiry about them.

Unfortunately, this has not always been our experience. Because of his inquiries into stereotype accuracy, the first author has been accused by prominent social psychologists of purveying “nonsense,” of living “in a world where stereotypes are all accurate and no one ever relies on them anyway,” of calling for research with titles like “Are Jews really cheap?” and “Are Blacks really lazy?,” of disagreeing with civil rights laws, and of providing intellectual cover for bigots.

These reactions are understandable, if one remembers that social psychology has a long intellectual history of emphasizing the role of error and bias in social perception, and nowhere has this emphasis been stronger than in the area of stereotypes. To enter this zeitgeist and to argue for the need to take seriously the possibility that sometimes, some aspects of some stereotypes may have some degree of accuracy, therefore, is to risk making claims that are unbearable to some social scientists. However, science is about validity, not “bearability.” It is about logic and evidence. [my emphasis]
