That's my why. Who would you choose?

I only really see one persistent tard in that comment stream.

Now some people are being a bit daft when they discuss how readily apparent the satire should be in a comic which is intended to be part of a magazine read more or less cover to cover, and by someone who actually speaks the language and is a bit conversant with the local politics. No, CH should not care the tiniest whit about making their satire more obvious for foreign dullards illiterate in French who insist on clipping a single comic out and drawing a bunch of wrong conclusions.

Oh, nevermind, I spotted the second tard. Yohocoma and Tyrian between them couldn't scrounge together one-tenth of an intelligent thought.

I should probably count that resident Christian apologist as well but my eyes just glaze over when I try to read one of their comment threads which seem to garner more replies than all other comments put together in any article they comment upon.

I made it to about half way through. It sounds like another feminist Phd dissertation describing how internet drama is only an artefact of how reality is conspiring to undermine post modernist theory.
The narrator deftly moves between petty shaming, pretentious self congratulation and pretty much admits ther is a conspiracy to dismiss the suffering of the proletariat by the ruling evil feminist Matriarchy.
Hope that helps you. :ugeek:

Speaking of fat acceptance/nonacceptance, and so on, I'm fat, but not mountainous, maybe 40-50 overweight. Anyway, at the local Mark's Work Warehouse I've found lots of 5x-long teeshirts which make great sleep/night shirts. As I say, I am overweight, yes indeed, but not that massively, but overlarge shirts and other clothes are easypeasey to find. If you look.

Ya know, this just crossed my mind: Many years ago and once upon a time, one of the things that directed me to understand that PZ Myers is a LooneyTuneLiarNutBar was when he posted a long screed about how women cannot find a variety of clothes nor quality clothes and that men have more choices than they can deal with. I mean, WTF? The man is insane. Go to any mall or shopping center type place in North America and you will find that Women's clothing stores, ranging in quality from shit to outrageously good and profoundly expensive, outnumber men's slothing stores by approximately 5 or 6 to one ... or more, and the range and variety of styles, colours, and so on is astronomically greater than your average men's suit/tie/loafers boring joke.

Fuck me, when I was still a working musician I regularly bought my clothes at women's stores because the colours, the styles, the variety, the quality was all uniformly better than any shit you find in men's stores. Hello customer man, would you like to peruse our wares? We have some grey suits, some brown suits, a few black suits, and several blue suits. We also have some white shirts and brown loafers. Hello customer womyn, we have approximately thirty thousand sweater sets, of all colurs of the rainbow for you to peruse made from everything from recycled cardboard to the finest sable furs from Russia, not to mention the gazzillionQuntillion other articles of seasonally ever-changing attire....

Bah!

Numbnuts dipshit. PZ, go get buried.

The names of those who were let go have not been released. The station posted job listings this week for positions that included two anchors, one meteorologist, a news producer, and three content specialists.

A 21 y.o. man and a prepubescent girl are equally capable? If you say so. Personally, I'd tend to assume the man was guilty in the event of an encounter between the two. Perhaps I'm relying too heavily on stereotypes.

"Most African-Americans today are descended from at least one slave woman who was raped by her white slavemaster..."

Not a few white-passing Puerto Ricans are similarly descended.
"This is not inherent to Islam, and it is a cultural meme that can and must be overcome with education."

I'm going to go ahead and guess you've never actually read the Koran. Try chapter 4 for starters, if you'd like to know how women are valued relative to men.

This comment from Ashley's was a wholesome slice of pie.

......

I’m not sure that the 2016 Reason Rally will be successful our is even needed. A lot has changed in the US in just 4 years-the culture has shifted dramatically. Atheists aren’t really a small minority anymore, especially among young people. There is becoming less and less that atheists need to fight for. I really don’t see why anyone would bother travelling to an atheist conference outside their local area anymore.

All that being said, if they want to have any chance of success, they need to only go with interesting, knowledgeable, and accomplished speakers. They need to stay away from the standard atheist conference formula of bringing 1-2 good speakers along with a bunch of second tier nobody bloggers.

The calls for greater diversity in speakers strike me as highly insincere. It would be great if conferences would bring in actual diverse voices from accomplished people like Ayaam Hirsi Ali. Ali Rizvi, or maybe even Neil DeGrasse Tyson. There are, also some slightly lesser known but still very good speakers with diverse backgrounds that can be found here on FTB, like Taslima Nasreen, Maryam Namazie, or Hiba Krisht. Once in a while, some of these people will speak at atheist conferences. However, when people call for more diversity at conferences, these are not.the type of speakers They seek out.

Instead, they seek out a small clique of second rate bloggers who continually speak the atheist conference circuit. It is a small group of mostly white, middle/upper class American women who have achieved little in life beyond blogging. These include people like:

The liiterary erotica author.
The former podcast sidekick.
The ceramic trinket maker.
The ec-Muslim from Orange County who raised $10k on kickstarter for a book that she vnever wrote.
The analyst from MN who writes verbose and mostly incomprehensible blog posts and short stories.
The mentally ill drug addict who likes to party (thankfully she has left the atheist/skeptic scene).

Most of those people are horrible public speakers. Many give talks where they appear that they did not even bother to prepare. The few that are decent public speakers (like the literary erotica writer) Are mediocre intellects. And it is the same core group that inserts almost every conference.

It is very telling that a lineup that does not include any of this group of second stringers elicits complaints about a ” lack of diversity” if the organizers of the Reason Rally want to succeed, they would well advised to only add speakers if they are accomplished. They definitely should stay away from the failing formula used by most atheist conferences these days.

I don't know, I think Reason Rally would really benefit from learning more from an expert on a shitty reality TV show that isn't even on any more. I understand Ashley has many admirable qualities and has revolutionised atheism.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think calling someone “a man who controls/keeps away his sisters or mother from any sexual attention” is such a compliment in US or Germany.

you would indeed be wrong. especially about the US, where fathers pride themselves on threatening the lives of potential suitors with shotguns
That comment section is one total retardation. So next time a bunch of white guys gangrape a women we can dismiss it because muslims gangrape too.

If true that's a signal that the message that Merkel's policies have given is "come whoever you are, we won't check who you really are and there will be no consequences for bad behavior".

That's what really troubles me. We can deal with people who think that their culture is superior, but giving incentives to people who cheat the system can wreck it very quickly.
The people I know in Australia's immigration department repeatedly tell me that there's plenty of evidence that many, if not most, irregular maritime arrivals are obviously coached about what to do and say when they reach Australia in order to game our legal system. We can more often than not work out exactly who someone is, even if they've destroyed their documentation. More often then you'd think, they're some fuck who's repeatedly tried to claim asylum and been deported from the UK or the US, and have lived in many safe countries. Some even openly admit they're saying what they're saying because they've been told it's the best way to get through our legal system. Australia's privacy laws are the main reason this doesn't become mainstream news; releasing that information to the news media is considered doxxing.

Getting into a country that doesn't bother to check must be even simpler.

Bitching about percentages in a line-up of... 7. Maybe she should prescribe the diversity parameters for each number of speakers?
1 speaker => all of black, gay or genderqueer, woman
2 speakers => 1 black, 1 white; 1 lgbt, 1 otherkin
3 speakers => etc. etc.
Miller wrote:I find that extremely troubling as well. It’s one thing to try to pull the wool over my eyes regarding representation issues, but to try to do that when there’s only 7 people in the first place. It’s like, “You’re doing percentages like I’m not just looking at 7 individuals. Where are your speakers?”
You asked them, they answered.
I don’t understand why they’d bother to email me back with this malarkey when they’ve clearly got a lot of work to do, even if they don’t think that some of that work is bringing in people of color.
Why yes, Ashley, I wonder what you'd have done if they had not replied. Surely you wouldn't pull them through the mud then, would you?

Women are not paid for their emotional labour
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/as- ... 11886.html

Voices
We need to talk about women's unpaid emotional labour - and urgently

Co-ordinating children’s social lives, remembering birthdays, organising childcare, booking holidays, managing family relationships and fall-outs, maintaining contact with friends and family - it's all just as onerous and time-consuming as other work
Nadine Houghton Thursday 14 January 20168 comments

94

Emotional labour is all too often left to the woman Monkey Business Images/REX Shutterstock
"Can you ring the landlord today? I hate speaking to them and you’re so much better at it than I am," my partner asked.

"Well, I'm really busy at work today, but OK."

I know he doesn't really like talking to them and I'm better at doing the follow-up emails, the chasing and everything else that comes with dealing with landlords.

But am I actually 'better' at doing these things - or is it because, as the woman in this partnership, I'm expected to do these tasks and as a result have developed the skills which make me better at it?

I'm told that it's a natural attribute as a woman to want to organise, care, be empathetic and run a home. But what about when we start thinking about all the things that women do in the home as real, actual work? Most of all, what about the emotional labour - the work that goes largely unnoticed, unrewarded and certainly unpaid?

Death fats have it even worse:
please, fellow small fats, pay attention to this.
I wish this was just about fashion but it’s not. Deathfats are denied medical treatment, medically maltreated and misdiagnosed. Deathfats are denied flights, and demonised when flying. Deathfats are seen as the ultimate in laziness, and are turned down for jobs that they are more than qualified for. Deathfats are denied adoption rights and IVF treatment in many countries. Deathfats can be denied citizenship in many countries, and sometimes visas too. Can we talk about this stuff too? I mean, but fatshion! Cool! You’re killing me here.
Denied visas? That half of sentence may have just ruined my entire life.

It was still there an hour ago, miracle it hasn't been zapped yet. I won't wager a guess who did this...

Holy shit.

The war on obesity is genocide.

The goal is to "eradicate" fat folk.

Xie later "clarifies" that xie "doesn't mean actual genocide", just that, society doesn't want fat people to exist!
https://danceswithfat.wordpress.com/201 ... -kills-us/

And we want to kill them off with bypass surgery and weight loss drugs.

Jfc
But a look at the reality of the situation shows pretty quickly that the people who want a war on obesity want a world without fat people by any means necessary – they are ok if we become thin, but they also seem totally fine if we die trying.

Once upon a time in America, you would get a nickname for being fat. Fatty Arbuckle stood out, because most people were thin.

Now, a lot of people in America are fat.

To change the subject entirely, health care costs in America are rising.

We need to talk about women's unpaid emotional labour - and urgently

Co-ordinating children’s social lives, remembering birthdays, organising childcare, booking holidays, managing family relationships and fall-outs, maintaining contact with friends and family - it's all just as onerous and time-consuming as other work

Incredible, isn't it, that all these 'anti-capitalists' should see every parental responsibilities in terms of a business contract.

Nobody owes you a reward for having kids. If those kids aren't reward enough for having them you should have them adopted by someone who sees them as something other than a burden.

"Deathfat" was coined in the fatshionista Livejournal community and serves as a mantle for those who are categorised by the (admittedly flawed) BMI chart as morbidly obese.
A 5XL mantle, obviously.

According to Urban Dictionary, the 'deathfat' community are those who are classified or identify as morbidly obese.

OMG Your sister weighs 300 pounds? She is so deathfat.
That entry is from 2011, so I'm guessing it was term originally used as an insult but reclaimed by the deathfats as an empowering term. Kinda like 'gay'.

My google search for the term also brought up a link to a deathfat tumblr page:
DEATHFATTIES
deathfatties.tumblr.com/
This tumblr is dedicated to showcasing the vitality and visibility of those who self-identify as "deathfat". If you want to contribute your fabulosity to the tumblr, use ...
Never, ever have I been more profoundly unenthusiastic about checking the contents of a particular google link.

Oh - and 'vitality'? lol.

"Fat" is just a social construct.

If you identify as "deathfat" that is your right.

I also like how the tumblr wants to 'showcase the visibility' of the deathfats.

Because if there's one thing that's true in life, it's that we rarely notice some mammoth deathfat hauling its fucking huge carcass around the supermarket, or wherever.

Something it reminds me of. Probably six or seven years back, maybe more, a lot of my male friends started complaining about their girlfriends/wives falling out with them over things they'd said or done in her dreams. It was so ubiquitous, it seemed to be an organised campaign. And then after a while it stopped. I discovered later it had happened in an episode of Friends and taken off from there.

The interesting thing is that the same feminist who complain that being polite and nice is hard labor are also the first to be enraged at the "nice guys" who think that they're entitled to "cookies" (or sex) because they're being nice.
