Re: Happy 3rd Pit Birthday!
Someone here pointed out this youtube video recently (sorry, forgot which of you misogynists it was). Skip the mind-numbing bits (which is all of it) and go straight to 54:24. Someone asks Rebecca Watson what the antidote to Susan Sommers might be. She giggles, and replies:ffs wrote:But she did highlight it's acceptable to use death threats made against others as your ringtoneJan Steen wrote:Seeing that Sarkeesian and Wu have nothing to do with the atheist movement (are they even atheists?), we are left with Rebecca Watson, who as far as I recall has never produced an example of a credible rape or death threat against her, nor is there any proof that there exists "an atheism" in which it is acceptable to call for the raping and killing of feminists. As you say, it's a threat narrative, and that is all it is. It is demagoguery; it's lying and smearing.
Now, replace "Susan Sommers" with "Rebecca Watson", and you've made a bona-fide death threat. According to baboon standards, that is. :lol:The antidote to Susan Sommers, is what you're asking me. Not a gun. Heheheh.

All of this activity boosts the # of supporters and the amount of income listed on one's Patreon page - one's "cred", perhaps. RW would seem to be top of the pecking order - not only does she have the most patrons overall, but her supporter:supportee ratio among the parties listed above is 4:1, whereas Ashley appears to be at the bottom at 3:3.

The hatred that it inspired among the regressive element in atheism was…hmm. “Surprising” isn’t the right word any more.

In other words, since he's not actually progressive about anything, he's trying to label everyone else a "regressive" so he'll appear progressive by comparison. Or perhaps he's trying to throw back the label that's been stamped to his forehead by the majority of the community. Or something.
In any case, stop trying to make "fetch" happen, PZ. It just makes you look like a dumbass.

Communicating Atheism panel, part I
World Atheist Convention, Ireland, 2011
RW speaks from 2:15 to the end of this clip. Sorta transcript, 10:39-11:48, RW speaking:
So, that's what it's like to deal with other atheists as an outspoken atheist woman.
And of course there's also, I should mention, there's the contact I get from people who disagree with me even on the atheism. The contact I get from religious people. I'm sure we've all heard Richard {Dawkins} reading his amazing hate mail, which is hilarious, {low-level laughter from audience} which I should mention is actually my cell phone ring... {loud laughter & applause from audience; RW & Dawkins smile broadly/laugh}
I probably shouldn't have brought it up here but yeah, I'm walking through the grocery store and suddenly my purse goes 'You suck!' {laughter from audience} 'I hope you get hit by a bus.' {Dawkins corrects, "by a church van"} 'By a church van!' {laughter from audience}
So the hate mail I get. Obviously we all get some pretty terrible hate mail, but I should just mention briefly that as a woman a lot of the hate mail I get isn't just violent, I do get the death threats {dismissive motion} and, you know, standard sort of hate mail like that, but I also get a tremendous amount of threats from religious people that involve rape...
Re: Happy 3rd Pit Birthday!
Also, the A+ debacle was, for many I'm sure, the first time we got an inkling that all was not quite right with Richard Carrier.

That's a fair characterization of the anti-feminist position. It has nothing to do with the constant nattering about inanities that you see in modern feminism, or thier disinclination to address (or even acknowledge) traditional gender roles that benefit women at the expense of men.
Yeah, anti-feminists just want to rape people and not be called out for it.

Just noticed this today.
Amy started her LAWAAG group in 2014, and was granted space at CFI LA (over the objection of several (former) members of CFI LA).
One of her first major events was the "art show" made up of hurtful/mean tweets
This was her sponsor page from that start date

Same as Jan 2015
http://i.imgur.com/08SHYz3.jpg
and same as Aug 2015

But look at it now:
http://i.imgur.com/3Kkk0us.jpg
http://lawaag.com/sponsors/
She seems to have lost both CFI LA and FTB.
The group no longer meets at CFI LA either, but a private home.
Don't know if there was a falling out between her and Jim Underdown, CFI in general, or she just didn't like the time CFI was free to grant her space (Tuesday nights). Which I can understand.
Still sponsored by Secular Woman, Skepchick and Surlyramics though, lol

Someone with the spoons needs to do a twitter account that just tweets PZ comments. Haha, I don't remember seeing this before. Rayshul mentioned our old friend Grimalkin above, and then I ran across this artwork by xer/xim at xir/xis blog:

When did this hatred from the regressive left of Dawkins start?
Was it there before the Elevator thing?

I think it happened about the time that he became more popular than all of them. Combined.

It might have been under the surface before then...but this hatred of Dawkins and hatred of DJ Grothe (as JREF head) seemed to happen near the same time. Dawkins was at TAM in July, 2011.free thoughtpolice wrote:When did this hatred from the regressive left of Dawkins start?

This is just a few months after ElevatorGate and the Dear Muslima letter.
Rebecca Watson was at that TAM, but did a mini-boycott of Dawkins. Skulking around the bars where attendees were hanging out.
DJ was blamed for people doing mean tweets at Amy while at the 2012 TAM. Or not making Harriet Hall change her shirt. Or not blocking "fake jewelry" no one saw until AFTER TAM was over.
This was the TAM Rebecca Watson boycotted with all other Skepchicks except Amy (who stayed because she helped women get there through fundraising)
Amy and DJ I think were still living in the same apt structure at this time, and USED to be friends.
2011 and 2012 were quite the banner years.

PZ is normally stingy with crediting the Pit for anything (hi Avi), but we and others get credit for ruining A+?
Sorry, Peez, but much as we'd love to, we can't take credit for that.
A+ did it to themselves. By creating the safest space in the world in which all those violent words and ideas were nowhere to be found and gentle silence reigns supreme.

It bears highlighting this quote, as it perfectly encapsulates the insanity of Peezus and his dwindling flock. This is such a stupid, over-the-top lie, that I really wonder who he is trying to fool with this nonsense. Not even Nerd of Redhead can actually believe this. Peezus has been committing intellectual suicide for the past few years, and this may well be the lethal dose of toxic smearing that finishes him off. What a sad little clown he has become.
"We have a Heliocentrism where it is acceptable to rail against Flat Earthers, because Flat Earthers should be raped and killed."
This is what eventually happens when a character like PZ interacts for too long in an environment where his ideas (such as they are) can't be challenged. He's gotten less & less realistic feedback over time & it shows. He's done less & less double-checking before hitting "enter" until he's just shitting out wildly distorted fantasy with no relation to reality.
He has no fear that reality will intrude into his echo chamber because it rarely does, & hasn't since Nuge invested his time & inhuman patience. I don't think he feels the shame a reasonable person would after typing shit like that, knowing that people familiar with the facts would be reading it. He would've years ago, but he's not part of that world anymore.
Disagreers have all been distorted into funhouse mirror caricatures so that he no longer has to engage with them. He's a dimestore Hitler in his crumbling little bunker plotting victories with nonexistent armies & ranting about The Jews (minus the opposition that even bothers anymore). He's becoming less contemptible & more pitiable with every post.
It would be sad & tragic if it weren't so funny. Well, it probably is sad & tragic but it's still funny.

There are two things that I've always loved about this clip. First, from 2:15 to a bit after 3:00, you get the classic non-admission by Rebecca Watson that she did not prepare (as usual) and is basing her "talk" on something that has occurred to her in the last 24 hours. Second, watch Richard Dawkins during this clip and the other clips from later in this panel and then the Q&A session. He doesn't come right out and roll his eyes, but does everything short of that when Watson is speaking. It is clear that he had no respect for her by the end of this panel, which helps explain "Dear Muslima," which I believe was only a few days later.

I haven't read anything about detransitioning but I could sure see it happening especially to those that don't have "passing privilege" or, in the words of Melody Hensley, being "visibly trans". Sure, it starts out as a good idea, a journey with a very real destination but sometimes, that destination isn't all it's cracked up to be when you fail to blend in with the locals, so to speak.rayshul wrote:https://grimalkinblog.wordpress.com/201 ... what-i-am/
Re your reference above, I looked for the post... interesting, thoughtful self-reflection and shows a bit of the damage of politics on a person. (e.g. I don't want to identify with an oppressor...) I've been reading lately about retransitioning - when someone decides they actually aren't transgender after all.
No doubt it's a tough life that's made even more complicated by arguing that gender is a social construct and then having to deal with responses that ask...Why be trans then ? Why is it so important that we ( as in the general public ) see you as trying to advertise something that you (most likely ) don't have.
Deep down, the trans* have to know that, even though they argue gender and gender expression are social constructs the rest of the world is going to default to sex when picking someone to have a romantic relationship with.

I didn't follow the politics of this before, but the only people I recall making snide and nasty comments against Dawkins in particular were fanatic conservative religionists. Since then people that claim to be liberal and secular have been making worse, and doing it from the lowly grade Z blogger to news outlets I had previously had some respect for.HoneyWagon wrote:It might have been under the surface before then...but this hatred of Dawkins and hatred of DJ Grothe (as JREF head) seemed to happen near the same time. The PZ/ Becky clique I think did more harm to the acceptance of atheism in the US than the goofy Xtian fundamentalists could even hope for. PZ and Richard Carrier have some of the most prominent articles on Conservapedia that make scurrilous claims against atheists.
If there is such a thing as a cause for atheism/secularism, the best thing that PZ and the rest of the baboons could do for it is convert to Fundamentalist Xtianity or Islam.

When the radical feminists saw all the money to be had at atheist/skeptic conventions they saw a useful tool for their cause. As predicted then, they tried to push out the 'leadership' - read big names in the atheist world because big book sales and big success - and replace it with their own. That is, replace merit and accomplishment with what? - people with flourescent hair and a list of pronouns and trigger warnings and a hatred of dictionaries. Merit and ability was replaced with low-achieving non-original group thinkers. People of low-bandwidth because long-repetitive phrases used over and over again have high compressibility.
And for some reason, the people with money noticed that other than flourescent red hair and doofus glasses, people like RW have nothing to offer. And now A/S conventions have noticed.
Surprise surprise. Welcome the "No Homer's" club you Homers of the world.

Re: Happy 3rd Pit Birthday!
I can't completely disagree with pointing out that the amount of time the skeptics spend on shit like bigfoot, aliens, and ghosts is inordinate and worthless. There are in fact, real problems for people that are a result of a lack of proper thought process. Phishing and its variants come to mind. However, never suggest to The Skeptics that maybe they should focus on things that cause people problems every day instead of yet another session on "No, Bigfoot and the Chupacabra did not fuck your sister". They do not like that sort of thing.Tigzy wrote:Just read that Surly Amy drivel. Truly she is a child; an airheaded spakker made worse by the fact that she's now in her mid-late forties. I mean...look at this. Look at this shit:
That's - that's a Dear Muslima, right there. Remember how Becky's sycophants whined when Dawkins let rip with pretty much the same idea? That, essentially, there's bigger and worthier things to get all het up about?I was doing a photoshoot with this woman and she said to me, and I’m paraphrasing here:
I heard what she said but at the time I didn’t let it sink in. I couldn’t. I was just so damn excited to finally be part of something. I really thought the skeptic and atheist communities were going to do real good in the world...blah blah“Skeptics are all awful people because if you think that the biggest problems one faces in life is whether or not there is a bigfoot or if someone thinks they are psychic, you’re actually a huge asshole. There are much bigger problems in society. Ignoring those bigger issues to pick on people who you think you are smarter than makes you a terrible person who is blind to the real problems in the world.”
Holy fucking shit.
And again - why does Amy and her kind get so worked up about the idea that skeptics spend too much time poring over bigfoot and Chupacabras stories? As Noel Plum pointed out - what do you expect? It's like being shocked by the fact that a group of model railway enthusiasts spend an inordinate amount of time talking about...model trains.
Fucking hell.
And remember, a middle-aged woman wrote this cretinous, lightweight, simpering nonsense. Poor Surly Johnny - I do feel sorry for him. He reminds me of those poor little shivering chihuahuas that you see stuffed into the handbags of gobby bimbos.
Amy is a complete bugfuck-stupid incompetent who should not be in charge of a handful of sand, much less a child, but she does have a point there.
