Sovereign citizens are some of the most entertaining people out there. And, thankfully, they often film their interactions with cops. My favorite is this chick (although her voice is painful):

<snip>
Yes, these guys are hilarious, but they can be deadly also. The FBI classifies the more extreme members as domestic terrorists and they have shot cops previous to today's incident. The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism considers these guys more dangerous at the local level than Islamic terrorists. One of the Oklahoma City bombers (Terry Nichols) was a member. Funny and yet not funny at the same time.

I can just see it now - Picard sat in his command chair, there's a sudden shimmering light around his head/shoulders accompanied by the familiar teleporter sound effect.

Splat!

A steaming great borg-bar (with piss chaser) right on his stupid fucking head.

Our marriage, like everyone’s, is a private matter and we are not prepared to share any details. Suffice to say it is true that we recently separated entirely amicably.
Obviously, this remains a difficult time, one which we simply will not discuss any further publicly. We would, however, like to stress that we shall always be friends and that we will, of course, continue to work together.

That said. I prefer the Swiss model as being less over the top than Trump's current temporary proposal. I still think the Swiss model [*](while being right for a small nation state like Switzerland) might be too much for the US. Might also be worth considering until a better more relaxed model can be found.
Oh, yes, of course.

I think that in the US a good thing to do would be to have potential applicants for citizenship or permission to stay fill out a questionnaire, of the likes you get in an American airport when you get into the country, with the caveat that lying on the questionnaire is considered perjury and grounds for expulsion from the country.
This is already the law - the application forms for Green Card and citizenship are incredibly detailed. And if you are later found to have intentionally lied about even the smallest thing you can be stripped of citizenship or your GC, deported, and be made permanently ineligible ever to enter the US legally again.

No I haven't took the time to watch it yet. I heard it was bizarre as fuck.

Never been a fan of Jeff. His whole gimmick of throwing himself off things never applied to me. I have always like Matt though. I can watch it and get back to you if you want.

The fact is was no impairment is actually good. The first stroke can be the worse as once diganosed it can be treated. If you are due for a stroke, which clearly you were, it's a positive event.

So i see this as a positive event.

Yup: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc ... ce/391640/
The article seems to get at the nub of the matter - why are the police protected so much from the consequences of their actions? In al the cases mentioned it seems the police had no real reason to use the force they did. If this is "tone policing" then there needs to be more of it. The only exception is the guy who ran and was found with a knife. However in the UK the likely result would be a caution.

Yea, I was thinking along the same lines. In any case, I wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

But in other news, and in your bailiwick, and partly for the "nattering nabobs of negativism" in the crowd, several items:
Television personality Sonia Kruger calls for Australia to ban Muslims

MEDIA personality Sonia Kruger has responded to an avalanche of criticism after her call to ban Muslim migrants from Australia by saying she should be free to speak her mind without being labelled “a racist”.

Kruger released a statement through Twitter on Monday afternoon defending her comments on the Today Show.
“Following the atrocities of last week in Nice where 10 children lost their lives, as a mother, I believe it’s vital in a democratic society to be able to discuss these issues without being labelled racist,” she said.

She made the controversial call when the Today showpanel was addressing a recent article by News Corp columnist Andrew Bolt, which attributed terror attacks in France to the country’s intake of Muslim migrants. ...
And something in the Herald Sun:
West must rise up to do battle with evil of Islamist extremists

Rita Panahi, Herald Sun
July 17, 2016 7:00am

THE West is beginning to learn that appeasement and cowardice only strengthen Islamist extremists.

If you’ve never lived under Islamic law, then it’s easy to be blase about the oppression and brutality that is the fate of millions around the world.

It may even be tempting to bury your head in the sand when you hear about Islamist acts of terror in cities you’re familiar with: Paris, Brussels, Boston, Orlando, Istanbul, London and Nice.

Islamist apologists who rationalise this evil are akin to fools who feed a crocodile, hoping it will eat them last, if I may borrow a phrase from Winston Churchill. ....
We may have the beginnings of a movement here, folks, even if it's been a long time coming ....

Must be talking about Islam, which is like a prison. Where if you rape women, the last thing the victims will do is go to police because the police charge victims of rape with adultery. And that goes 1000 for male victims of rape, which happens a lot in prison culture, even more than rape of females since access to males is a lot easier in a segregated prison culture. And the culture vultures can't even use the it ain't rape culture if it isn't part of the dominant(white straight male) culture. Because this shit is ingrained in the culture of Islam, in the rulers of the land and in their law books.

And all of this apparently makes me an Islamaphobe.

Except you haven't proved that my fear of Islam is unjustified. To prove it's a phobia.

As a member of the 21st century you are fucking rights I fear the 9 century. Keep it in the history books where it belongs.

Oh and you think that will get you out of your next colonoscopy? Think again, mister. :naughty:

(Keep it mild without impairment, FT - the 1st one can be a warning. Follow whatever advice they give you - probably several tests to look for possible underlying cause, and aspirin unless it was the bleeding kind of stroke, and maybe a statin & blood pressure medication, and for sure dump those cigarettes if you hadn't already quit.)

Yesterday evening I did a podcast with Mykeru and Vito. I don't know if I was very coherent, but I remember a few good points. Well, I don't remember the points themselves, but I remember thinking at the time "huh, those are good points".

Anyway...

Does anyone know how often you should be having someone poke things up your arsehole? (For healths sake I mean).

I suppose that this would be the one time were it would be appropriate to post the Goatse image.

Haven't done much than bookmarked the RCP page but if it's like any of his other comments I expect it to be a barn-burner.

No doubt there are more than a few thugish and racist cops about. I expect it's kind of like the pedophilic priests - maybe some 5% of the priest population by some estimates which is not substantially different from the rest of society. And there are, no doubt, many "systemic" aspects to American society that are decidedly problematic and have contributed to the problem. But, at the same time, many have also argued - like Cathy Young's Ferguson post - with some credibility that the black community in American is largely its own worst enemy. Case in point:

Rather large percentage of assholes on virtually every side of every issue; even social justice warriors may encompass a reasonable portion - after all, who can be against social justice, in principle at least. The question is how large are those portions, and how to talk to the more rational segments.

Based on my own experiences in that regard, it seems to depend on what they find. They found a few polyps in my case the first and only time some 5 to 10 years ago, but they were, thankfully, benign so my doc hasn't required me to repeat the process.

Gad Saad has a new interview out. It's with one of the people that Steersman quoted above!
