All in all I've reconsidered what was said and I have to admit that I overreacted by threatening a lawsuit, I was concerned since attacks on my character have happened in the past and are happening on my facebook account since I've publicly come out as an apostate. I've re-read what was said more lucidly and while Aneris used inflammatory language it doesn't constitute defamation.

I'm willing to close it off and apologize to Aneris to some extent over some of my failings in the debate if she's willing to apologize for having called me Alt-Right, "in service of a neo-nazi agenda", and all the other insults she's used.

About 6 yrs ago a good friend of mine was hospitalised with alcohol related liver failure, the Doctor told his wife he had at best only a 30% chance of surviving and told her to prepare for the worst. Long story short, he was a heavy drinker, everyone knew he had a problem but when confronted he came back with the usual "I just like a drink, is all, no problem, I can handle it"
Anyway not only did he recover, he has stopped drinking, his liver is functioning again and although he now has to live with diabetes his quality of life is better than its ever been (his words) Lost a lot of weight, plays Golf and has taken up power walking and cycling.

There's always hope.

Ignoring the (in)correctness of their views, FTB and A+'s real downfall was simply banning dissent.

Paul did occasionally figure out that it's better to let there be dissent but to manage it. It's fucking scummy behavior no doubt, but it's a guaranteed method of keeping interest.

But when you ban everyone who might argue with you, then go on to ban anyone who, while they're trying to walk on eggshells, occasionally put a foot out of line, the result is no engagement. Nobody's interested. And anything they might think to say they'll second-guess whether it's worth it, whether it might get them in trouble.

Having an enemy to fight is a great boon. That's why protest groups are doing better than our poor old A+. Even if many of their enemies are invented, playing tribes at war keeps them from turning inward.

This is another reason why I don't think counter-identitarianism is a good idea. You're more likely to win in the long term by letting them thin their own ranks through directing frustration inward. It's still important to take stands on some issues, but choose your battles carefully, and definitely don't start unnecessary ones just for the sake of a laugh.

They seem to think that if you argue with others, even though you are compassionate and empathic about other people's feelings and the homeless etc, that you must be arguing about the wrong things.

Maybe people who hate poems, don't see why people get emotional, and don't understand abstract ideas, must be meanies and nazis.

The left in general has one moral value that takes precedence; compassion.

My progressive Christian relatives are not so different from leftist atheists and groups like the American Humanist Association. All moral decisions converge on compassion.... do unto others... the golden rule.

The real 1984 is coming from the left. This group includes religious and non-religious people. The funny thing is that many of these people are indeed really nice people. That's part of the problem. Niceness is a virtue that gets out of control very quickly. In order to be nice giant piles of social rules are perpetuated including "language police" and even "thought police."

We need more robust moral models than this, but many people don't see it. A robust model still contains elements of honor, loyalty, duty, hard work, truth, fairness, etc. This is the kind of thing Jordan Peterson is really talking about in some of his lectures.

When I first started to get really vocal and active about my atheism I would often say "Atheists are not communists!" Now I realize that almost all vocal atheists actually are communists. Haha. How fucked up is that!?!?

PS.... side story about thought police. I was out to dinner with my wife and another couple who are very long term friends. Somehow we got into a discussion about older men still finding young girls to be sexy. The ladies said it was "disgusting". I replied that it is natural for men of any age to find healthy attractive young women to be sexy. This impulse doesn't go away. Social rules make it less acceptable for older men to sex up the young ladies. Most men have enough honor and impulse control to keep their behavior within acceptable boundaries.... but... the fact the men find women sexy isn't really "disgusting". To me this does make sense. This doesn't mean you are cruel.... but it means you are not a "follower". I think most of us here play by our own rules and are not easily lead. It is almost the defining quality of this group.

I'm kind of over NMS. The storyline replacement and how it doesn't go anywhere finally made me quit. It's a love/hate type of leaving though. I still have pangs of wanting to fly around in the beautiful scenery and land on new planets etc. Maybe the team will put out another game without Sony or any company replacing the story.

Or maybe Sean Murray will sell licenses to the game engine, since he wrote it himself. I hope he didn't sell that to Sony. If he still has it, there could be a huge blossoming of similar games. Maybe people could expand on the library of base models and other things. Maybe not just the sci-fi visual style that I like so much, but a zillion other styles too. That would be incredible.

They are probably socialists (communists by any other name still smells like shit). They don't like people with leadership tendencies who are also confident (the liking yourself questions). I'm strongly for following rules though, but maybe my politics makes them the 'wrong' rules. Also, I don't tend to trust people by default - a learned quality since I used to over-trust.

Well, if we all got low amiability scores, then I'm in good company. And the company's testing interpretation is at fault. I've always felt very comfortable here. It's somewhere that I can be myself, and there's good conversation.

Post menopause, my eyes aren't so big and don't bug out quite as much. They've sunk in a bit. I've aged. Maybe I'll bravely post a pic later. I promised to take one today to email someone who hasn't seen me in a long time anyways. My videos from 5-7 years ago look like someone else.
