Met Police to conduct urgent review after rape trial collapse

The Met Police is to hold an "urgent" review of a rape case after being accused of failing to disclose vital evidence.

Liam Allan, 22, was charged with 12 counts of rape and sexual assault but his trial collapsed after police were ordered to hand over phone records.

A computer disk containing 40,000 messages revealed the alleged victim pestered Mr Allen for "casual sex".

Prosecution barrister Jerry Hayes accused police of "pure incompetence".

The charges against the criminology student were dropped three days into the trial at Croydon Crown Court when Mr Hayes took over the case.

It is understood police had looked at thousands of phone messages when reviewing evidence in the case, but had failed to disclose to the prosecution and defence teams messages between the complainant and her friends which cast doubt on the case against Mr Allan.

The CPS said it offered no evidence in the case on Thursday as there was "no longer a realistic prospect of conviction".

Fun fact for Pit Brits:
The Prosecution lawyer in that case was none other than Jerry Hayes
who was a Tory MP from 1983-87 and my emeory of him was of a bit of a self publicising prat, appearing on late night softporn Tv chat shows etc at the drop of a hat.
like the James Whale Radio Show (on TV - Geddit?)
Bloody hell yes, I thought I'd seen him somewhere before when I was watching him on the news. I remember that James Whale show well.

(Not so) Fun Fact #2
Hayes works for a firm of Barristers called Goldman Chambers
Also on their books is a certain Charlotte Proudman who Pitters may recall had a smashing Linkedlin photo
and is the "got to person for child abduction", as well as smashing the patriarchy in her spare time

Both of my wife's sisters are in the hospital. One had a heart attack and one is having kidney failure. Nice....

But.... we are off to Vegas this Sunday. There is only so much we can do... and their health problems are their own. Damn. What a pain. My wife already has medical authority over one of them.... maybe we will add the second soon.

On top of that, I am down one staff member and doing extra work to stay ahead.

On top of that, my dad, who used to have a 135 IQ is now 91 yo and dumb as a brick. So it goes.

But, next Wednesday, I am going to Battlefield Las Vegas to shoot a Thompson Machine Gun, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, and a BAR. Fuck yeah... that should be fun.

I suspect a few issues. One of them being the desire to punish men because of the sense that men are getting away scot free. So we have people like Lynne Owens, the head of the National Crime Agency at the time deciding :
Arrest first, investigate later in rape cases, says police chief: Former head of Surrey force called for overhaul after being criticised for its handling of sex crimes
She announced the change during a period of heavy criticism of her force’s handling of rape, domestic abuse and child protection cases.
Wonder at the source of the heavy criticism and what the nature of it was. Wonder if it has anything to do with "believe the woman 'cause they never lie about it" or whatever?
‘It means anyone can turn up in a police station, make an allegation and you will be arrested.’
Right but women never lie etc. etc. etc.

Another issue apparently is the desire to get the conviction numbers up. For example: Measures aimed at addressing drop in rape convictions launched

Alison Saunders is the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"But even though there have been slightly more defendants convicted, the steady increase in conviction rates we have seen in recent years has halted, and this must be addressed immediately.
Seems clear to me that the Brits have a corrupt justice system. From top to bottom. I strongly suspect I know at least a couple of reasons why. I also suspect there is an ideology behind this too.

Remember this one where Man falsely accused of sexual assault on actress wants apology from CPS over 'bemusing' case?

It became quite clear that CPS was determined to get him no matter what the facts were. CPS ‘slowed down’ CCTV footage of commuter accused of sexual assault ‘to look like he had more time to commit alleged actions’

Draw your own conclusions but something is clearly rotten in the state of Denmark.

That's not heretical to SJW dogma, so long as the 'gay conversion' is uni-directional toward gayness. Because the arbitrary cisgendernormative cultural paradigm artificially imposes the stereotypes of the false gender binary, large numbers of queer folk don't yet self-conceptualate as queer. Were we to restructuralize our cultural imperatives on pre-colonialized, genderfluid-accepting cultures, such as India with its Hijra, and First Peoples with their Two-Spirit identities, many unknowing queer folk would be empowered to undertake discursive self-reflectivization to epiphanize their queerness and then engage in gendernonconforming performance. Like sucking Matt Damon's dick.

I realize that you are being mildly sarcastic but some of what you wrote above appears to be mirrored by Moira Greyland
My observation of my father and mother’s actual belief is this: since everyone is naturally gay, it is the straight establishment that makes everyone hung up and therefore limited. Sex early will make people willing to have sex with everyone, which will bring about the utopia while eliminating homophobia and helping people become “who they really are.” It will also destroy the hated nuclear family with its paternalism, sexism, ageism (yes, for pedophiles, that is a thing) and all other “isms.” If enough children are sexualized young enough, gayness will suddenly be “normal” and accepted by everyone, and the old fashioned notions about fidelity will vanish. As sex is integrated as a natural part of every single relationship, the barriers between people will vanish, and the utopia will appear, as “straight culture” goes the way of the dinosaur. As my mother used to say: “Children are brainwashed into believing they don’t want sex.”
Moira's parents and her upbringing are covered here Rape, Abuse, and Marion Zimmer Bradley

She also wrote a book. It is on Amazon The Last Closet: The Dark Side of Avalon

Democrat Female primary candidate for the US House of Representatives is dropping out over allegations covered in a 2005 lawsuit.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/femal ... le/2643624

The Democrats are going to have one hell of a time shift from the party of free love and loose morals to moral authoritarian. The Republicans had their cleansing a long time ago so there isn't much to nail them with. And now many of the centrists are running to the Republicans for safety and to get away from the moral scolds.

So a parent loads a game on is Amazon Echo Dot, from a 3rd party developer, but Fox news blames Amazon for using the foul language of "Dumbass" with a little kid playing battleship. Local Fox news affiliate reports all of the facts accurately, but still can't figure out who is really responsible here.

That said, I guess it would make sense for Amazon to have age ratings for applications. The though probably never entered the developer's mind in terms of a kid playing it. Nothing is wrong with a little foul language with adults. But they need forewarning to make smart selections for kids.

What is it about Bayesian Experts that makes them into sexual preverts?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... g-ai-field
Google AI Researcher Accused of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment accusations have hit another corner of the tech industry, with allegations involving prominent artificial intelligence researchers, including one at Google, a leader in the field.

Data scientist Kristian Lum wrote in a blog this week that a man she called "S" grabbed her inappropriately at an industry conference in 2010 and said he took advantage of another woman she didn’t identify on separate occasions. Two people who were told about the conduct from two alleged victims told Bloomberg the man is Steven Scott, a senior researcher at Google.

Lum also wrote that a well-respected academic touched her inappropriately on the leg at the same conference and later sent her innuendo-laced messages. The man was later identified as Bradley Carlin, an expert in biostatistics, by people familiar with the alleged conduct.

...

Scott has been suspended from Google as of Friday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Carlin, a professor at the University of Minnesota, referred questions to the school, which said it is aware of the accusations but declined to comment further.

The researchers involved are experts in Bayesian statistics, which underpins a powerful type of AI known as machine learning.

...

The allegations came to light after the recent conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) in Long Beach, California. Some attendees complained that aspects of some parties held during the conference were inappropriate and potentially offensive to women. They also condemned a joke about sexual harassment made by Carlin, a member of an amateur band that performed at the NIPS closing night party.

Carlin, the band’s keyboardist, joked about the sexual misconduct allegations that forced the resignation of U.S. Senator Al Franken. After several attendees complained on Twitter that making light of sexual harassment was inappropriate, Carlin apologized on the band’s Facebook page.

Lum, who was not at the conference, learned of the incident and then wrote in the blog that she was “unsurprised to learn that a person involved in making the troubling comments is a well-respected academic who is widely known to behave inappropriately at conferences.”

Without naming Carlin directly, Lum said the academic had touched her inappropriately on the leg during an informal presentation she gave at a Bayesian mathematics conference in 2010. He also commented on her dress, saying it “was too sexy” for such an academic talk. Over the ensuing years, she wrote, the person sent her several innuendo-laced or inappropriate private Facebook messages, including messages in which he discussed watching pornography.

"I would like to defend myself against her accusations, but the matter has already been referred to my university’s EEO team, which I’m told will be conducting a full investigation into the matter," Carlin wrote in an email to Bloomberg, referring to the University of Minnesota’s Equal Employment Opportunity department. "So I’ve been instructed not to say anything more publicly pending the results of that investigation."

...

"There really is just a lot of sexual harassment of women in Bayesian statistics and machine learning,"

S'alright. You're correct and I thank you. I need reminding from time to time that mine isn't the only ass I'll put at risk. It's an image more suited for /pol/ or Kiwifarms than the Pit.

I've used the cherub motif several times before and it really didn't occur to me that lewd jokes and a buttplug could tip it into something the public would see way differently than I did. The only reason I noticed the original baby images was because imagining that lumpy, cheesy butt on Zinnia (who is inordinately proud of his caboose) got me snickering.

Anyhow, again, you're right. I'm going to leave it down unless I decide to redo it with changes.

Thanks, deLurch :D

Both of my wife's sisters are in the hospital. One had a heart attack and one is having kidney failure. Nice....

But.... we are off to Vegas this Sunday.
Vega, that's where Oumuamua came from. Quite a ride, John. So you won't be here for Christmas? (and the 12000 christmases after that)

Submit it to Journal of Queer Studies in Industrial Engineering. Should be a hit in the SCI.

Sure it wasn't a sea cougar? Did it have dirty red hair and horn rimmed glasses?
No, it was a sea lion. It was in a red polo shirt.

I'll be honest. It was the most hilarious thing ApeLust ever created. Imagine his best work times 100. He set the volume to 11.

But now you will never know.

Not a chance. It is so good he will burn in hell if he shares it with anyone, even via PM.

It shall just have to remain on of the pit's most tantalizing pieces of art that can never be seen.

Peez has always hated other men. Any random perusal of his stuff reveals a deep seated jealousy and bitter resentment.
Watching other boys kiss his childhood crushes, Insteadof his most hated “bully” peaking in high school and struggling to get by, he enjoys a level of sucess that peez could never hope to match( so much for karma).
He’s still the outcast little boy who wasn’t included in “spin the bottle “ games.
He reviles others and detests himself.
Happy atheist indeed.

Maybe they should all be made to wear, oh, I dunno, red polo shirts, so potential victims can see them coming.

Google AI Researcher Accused of Sexual Harassment

The allegations came to light after the recent conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) in Long Beach, California. Some attendees complained that aspects of some parties held during the conference were inappropriate and potentially offensive to women. They also condemned a joke about sexual harassment made by Carlin, a member of an amateur band that performed at the NIPS closing night party.

So, if I'm understanding this, men are now to blame when a NIPS-slip happens?
