Perhaps the themes could fit better in a remake of 'Massacre at Central High'.

Which Wiki tells me was an influence on 'Heathers'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_at_Central_High
Heathers are whoever hold the power in school so this could work. In the Eighties it was rich white bitches, now its feminists, fat trannies, and black students failing their exams because slavery and cops shot their dealer.

The original mocked the whole hippie therapeutic safe space culture that has come to dominate university life in the 21st century.

I don't advocate a real life Columbine solution to bullying but I'd certainly stock up on popcorn to watch a modern day Christian Slater-type go Travis Bickle on a bunch of entitled cry-bullies.
Sure, but no Father Ripper? There has to be a Father Ripper!

And then you buy the DLCs and doing it all again, according to my son.

But all he seems to play these days is Fortnite.

The obvious and fatal flaw of all these designs is that they assume there will never be someone helping from the other side.

The weather has been shirty in Florida and I was feeling nostalgic, so I bought an Xbox and Skyrim. My husband(who's only ever played phone games)has gotten into it. It's hilarious watching him learn to use the controller.
How's he with a joystick?

My 13yo daughter has recently switched up from Minecraft to Skyrim (on PC). Most of the controls she gets naturally, but she never learned how to strafe (A, D) and so goes around corners having to furiously slew the mouse. Not good when sneaking up with bow drawn!

She also wants to run full tilt at everything; I end up yelling "It's a bow, not a bloody pickaxe! Leave some distance!"

It's been a long time since I last played Skyrim myself; I made myself a new character so I could follow her through the level progression. It's still buggy (altho that might be the absurd number of mods I've installed), but also still engaging, beautiful and a lot of fun.

Even the Saudis, as corrupt, dogmatic and sometimes plainly idiotic as they are, understood that the invasion was going to be a complete disaster.

Everyone and their dog who knew anything about the Middle East warned Bush and Blair to take a step back and consider what was going to happen. The invasion was based on blatant lies which were quickly and timely exposed (Yellowcake forgery, Al-Qaeda/Iraq connection, spurious claims of WMDs). It was a blatantly illegal act according to international law.

The neocons are complete idiots at best, downright criminal at worst, seeing so many of them (Max Boot, David Frum, John Podhoretz, Bill Kristol) trying to become part of the "resistance" to Trump doesn't bode well for the US.

Trump is a disaster, but the neocons shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone, not after they botched so much of the US foreign policy. I really hope that any Democrat who is going to defeat Trump won't listen to them anymore.
I seem to recall a general consensus that Iraq was a secular beacon, a lynchpin in a democratic wedge in the Mid East, if only Saddam would go. This on top of an unexpectedly easy (and on the face of it clever) US take down of Afghanistan. Weird as it may seem, no one expected the inquisition.

My reading of history is that Saddam was why Iraq was secular ... just not democratic. The problem with most countries in that area is that, if let the fuckers vote (or have a revolution), they just elect (or empower) their favorite imam. It then takes them decades (e.g., 40 years and counting, in the case of Iran) for them to figure out that putting Islamic "clerics" in charge is a really dumb move. So, if you're not in the mood for theocracy, you need a Saddam or Erdoğan, which sucks if you're something like a Kurd.

I would think that an appreciation of something similar has been available in Europe since at least the 1920s.

They did know in 1993, they even said so at the time and that was why they didn't remove the regime then (having whipped up the Shia and Kurds).

I have no idea what the back room vibe was. I would imagine it was as confused and full of holes as the WMD understanding I do however have very strong memories that the public perception and media pitch was not about sectarian dangers. Iraq was presented as a modern society, in contrast to Iran, waiting for liberation. The issue was all about the legalities not the risks. Im sure the mid east office may have seen things differently, but it was specialist knowledge that challenged established perceptions.

As someone in GB sr's cabinet told him, 'if you break it, you own it'. Anyone in his cabinet could have said it. And sr. did not need to be told it, he already knew it. Because the GB sr. administration may have all been right-wing, but they were all professional politicians looking out for US interests. Not like the neo-cons who used the hapless GB jr. as their clueless cover.

The neo-cons who created this disaster deserved a collective 1000's of years in jail for what they did. Nobody in the Obama administration or anyone was asking for that though. How many years did any kind of commission take on looking at this disaster, pretty much none. But Starr took 5 years on a land deal that cost the Clintons money, and half the country wanted Hillary locked up.

America, get your fucking priorities straightened out.

And when "suicide bomber drove a truck laden with the equivalent of twenty-one thousand pounds of TNT into the heart of a U.S. Marine compound, killing two hundred and forty-one servicemen." during Reagan's administration I don't remember one fucking person screaming for Reagan to be impeached or anything else. All the politicians did was make sure something like that did not happen again. Cause that was what was best for the country. Cause patriotism ruled over ideology. Guess what, this was before FOX SNOOZE.

The thing that makes me the saddest about the 2016 election was that we didn't have a better candidate. I thought Clinton was vastly superior to Trump on the basis of Trump's pathological lying and idiosyncratic behavior, but I don't really have an answer for people who think Clinton is a turd. I think she is cynical, has shown bad judgement in a bunch of foreign policy matters (i.e. Libya and Iraq) and generally considers herself above the rules (hence the improper use of email, which isn't as damning as Republicans would like it to be, but still shows some level of casual disregard for the rules). I voted for her, but I've never liked her. Hopefully she doesn't run again in 2020, but I doubt she will be able to help herself. Maybe I'll be wrong.

Looking back, a real tragedy for the US. Bernie vs Trump would have been a sea change in US politics. The sharpest divide ever. A socialist vs a hard-core capitalist. Probably would have been a cold shower for most Americans and the majority of them would have huddled together in the center for warmth. Opportunity lost.

Right now we need to worry about raising money for the next election. After that we can get down to business, once we raise money for the election after that. But then we can get things done, once we raise money for the election after that...

But really, the nation's business is somewhere on the list. I swear.

So, you wanted Hillary to be known as the person who wanted to keep Gaddafi in power?

And what would the Fox hounds made of that? Again, Reagan killed 241 marines. He's a hero. Hillary killed 3 civil servants. She's a murderer. This is the Fox game.

Leave him in power, take him out of power. If you are right-wing either decision is correct. If you are not, either decision is wrong.

Why are you playing Fox's game?

The cycle started last week with Trumps umpteen dollars a plate dinner at Mar-a-lago where it will all be about making inner-cities better and making joe-lunchbucket a middle-class home buyer again, just like the 50's. The 50's all over again. Right. Coat-hangers maybe, but not anything else.

Reagan wasn't about to be elected President which is probably the greatest difference there.

Fuck me, your avatar, I always thought it was some retard kid - which I though might be you - winning a 4H award in some hicksville country fair - cause it ain't much of a cow -but I thought that rug over that cow said Gary Unger and the guy looked like a young Gary Unger, and I google "gary unger cow" and that is Gary Fucking Unger - the real and only legit IRONMAN of the NHL - and that is the fucking cow he was 'awarded' as the MVP of the 1974 NHL All-Star game. He won a fucking cow for being MVP. I never knew that. And the NHL probably wishes nobody knows that. The reason Unger is the only legit holder of the IRONMAN record in the NHL - as far as I'm concerned - is we now have the pracise of flyby's in the NHL, where you flyby an opponent who you could legitametly hit because of puck possession. And just stopping when the traffic gets rough and playing on 'the edges' . One of the Sedin brothers up here in Vancouver had an Ironman streak going, but he was a skill player who did not engage. Gary Fucking Unger engaged anything that moved. Took a shit-kicking to give a shit-kicking. Which make his IRON FUCKING MAN streak all the more amazing. Plus the awful protective equipment they had back then. He will always be the IRON FUCKING MAN to me.

His cow sucks though.

Holy shit. I didn't expect anyone to recognize that photo. I watched Unger play at the Checkerdome and later at the Omni when I was a kid. He always stood out as the best player on some mediocre teams. And his hair flying around since he didn't wear a helmet. Hell, we had Glen Hall tending goal without a fucking mask, which seemed completely crazy even then. Getting a calf for being the All-Star MVP kills me. It's 1974 for fuck's sake, give the man a car or something.

Home movies of Garry Unger playing in the British Hockey League when he must have been at least 40. This strange new world saves everything.

I remember him being a St. Louis Blues. The heart and soul of the Blues. He played a game in Vancouver back then when he was injured but still playing to keep his streak alive and he was still great. One of those players whose stats only tell part of the story. But those were his great years for the most part. He seems to have ended his NHL career with the Oilers when they were just about to go on their Stanley Cup run with Gretzky and Messier. And then a bunch of minor league years and then Belgium? Tell me it ain't so Gary.

Last time I heard anything about hockey in England was when a Harvard intra-murals league team didn't have enough players to form a team for a New Years day game. So one of the players had his girlfriend put on the goalie pads to play in goal. She couldn't stand on her skates so they tied her to the goalposts so she wouldn't fall down.

There's a bit of a learning curve to playing cricket on ice skates. Give em a few years.

I'd have thought a closer analog would be hurling.

What about those guys who play Rugby in full body armor, mostly use their hands, and then call it "football"?

We may need a new thread for that one as well...

And I'm not even mentioning Water Polo.

Those poor horses.
