So after checking in with the office it appears that this is much larger than I knew. 100 people. And we are getting the Disney IT treatment. Severance packages have not been announced yet, but it sounds like our corporate standard is 1 week for every year worked plus paying out full vacation time. But that is conditional on us fully training our replacements (Disney style). They are not laying off ALL of our IT staff just yet. But it appears that they have been chewing their way through. I am really surprised at what our company is willing to outsource.

After reading through other people's actions in other situations, it appears that the severance package is a bit of a monkey's trap.



You take it if you have no other alternatives. But if you receive a job offer it isn't worth losing the new job offer in exchange for sticking around 3 more months to train our replacements.

Now the company is offering up 40 new jobs that we can all apply for. But previously our company had aimed at getting the salaries in line with industry standards, these new positions are much lower job grades covering multiple previous jobs asking for an unrealistic amount of work. It appears unrealistic. Plus I cannot imagine having one other coworker, have to work all holidays on the schedule, and I have to work all of his or her vacation days and vice versa (so in essence no more vacation time). All vacation would mean is that the other person will get overtime at the lower job grade.

Oh well. I am not going to grouse too much. Time to pick up and move forward with a plan.

Yeah, that's a growing thing now, it's latest and greatest from the world of "efficiency". Make vacation time/sick time/etc. your employees' problem to deal with rather than a management problem so you don't have to staff for it. It's becoming increasingly normal that for any time off, it's the employee's responsibility to find the replacement for the shift.
