And the biggest demotivator of all is the "All Shall Have Prizes" doctrine that effectively hides ineffective teachers, lazy pupils and uncaring parents from consequences.

When I was high school age, my parents faked an address so that I could go to a mediocre school 3 km away, as the local school was near a public housing project and considered among the worst in the city. Since then, the area has become very heavily Asian and, magically, that school is now considered among the best in the city.

I think part of the reason is that as the mainstream right has aligned more closely with classical liberalism over the last 7 or 8 years, social conservative overreach has been greatly curtailed. And combatting social conservative overreach was a major mission of the atheist organizations.

Aaron Jenkins, MDOT spokesperson, confirmed to News 10 that Ruis was a transportation technician at MDOT and has been working there since 2008. Jenkins said Ruis was expected to come to work Tuesday.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said Ruis didn’t have any kind of criminal history in the county.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the MSP. Once their investigation is complete, it will be handed over to the Eaton County prosecutor’s office.

Excellent, Justin. While the hard left lost their bid at entryism into atheist organizations, the survivors are at least lightly woke and almost certain to radicalize over time. I recall O'Sullivan's law which states that any organization that isn't explicitly right wing becomes increasingly left wing over time. So hopefully AFL can be a good counterbalance. And any organization that is willing to walk towards the fire, as Andrew Breitbart put it, against the woke mobs is greatly appreciated.

Doesn't really matter what the old man told Ruis. Unless he posed an immediate physical threat and Ruis was acting in self defense, Ruis committed a violent felony and needed to be taken off the streets asap. I'd like to see the video, too, and will change my opinion if that's what the video warrants. But based on the evidence at hand, I'm confident in my original statement that he stabbed an elderly man in a dispute over wearing a mask.

LANSING — Michigan has officially raised the stakes on mask-wearing, one of the key ways to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, according to public health experts.

And the burden of enforcing it will largely fall on those working in stores, restaurants and other indoor businesses, which have been ordered to refuse entry to customers not wearing masks and to post signs explaining the rules.

That's unfair, Michigan Retailers Association spokesperson Meegan Holland said.

"It really puts a tough burden on retailers to have to enforce something that we believe local police agencies should be enforcing," she said.

Starting Monday, people who refuse to wear face coverings in indoor spaces such as stores can be fined $500, according to an executive order Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Friday. People medically unable to wear them are exempt.

"The heroes on the front lines of this crisis have gone hours without taking their masks off every day – doctors, nurses, child care workers, grocery store workers," Whitmer said in her announcement of the order. "We owe it to them to wear our masks when we're on a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy."

Ruis worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation since 2008, according to department spokesman Jeff Cranson. He was a transportation technician in mix design, which is responsible for pavement design procedures, investigation, training and testing, according to the MDOT website.

MDOT's Construction and Technology Building, where Ruis worked, is across Canal Road from the Michigan State Police Training Academy. Both are located near the Lansing Road Quality Dairy where the stabbing took place.

I agree. I think part of the reason is that as the mainstream right has aligned more closely with classical liberalism over the last 7 or 8 years, social conservative overreach has been greatly curtailed. And combatting social conservative overreach was a major mission of the atheist organizations.

It will be interesting to see if there are that many from the right that are interested in joining an explicitly atheist organisation.

It would seem easier to maintain political alliances by focusing on what they have in common with others who they agree with politically rather than emphasizing a point of contention.

Perhaps Atheists for Liberty could do a survey of it's members to find out where they are on the political compass - and if they have had any experience with other secular / atheist organisations.
