Last night was an AppIe Music event. Each month, Apple chooses an emerging music act & promotes 'em on AppIe's platforms. AppIe is control-freakish-- about the exact-type of Steve-Jobs-casual attire event workers should wear: not tooo subcultural, not tooo formal. Minimal tattoos allowed. Uptight disguised as casual. Clueless disguised as hip.

The fans were young. A fantastic mass-scream occurred, when sudden rain fell on the line outside, 5 minutes before doors opened.

First there was a DJ set, by a teenage girl DJ-- whose selections gave me a good mood & no headache. Her parents hovered nearby, all night.

Then a documentary-- with cheezy bits showing the headliner-- a boy-wonder named Bazzi-- walking in the desert with an acoustic guitar. And adorable home video of him singing in diapers-- with a similar style at age 2... to now.

The kid & his band (random 'diverse' guys hired via audition by some music industry overlord) were polite & kept their green-room tidy. No pot smells. They played real instruments & the kid really sang-- pretty good-- not buried in autotune (tho the official version of his hit is autotune-y).



The fans were so young, they took Bazzi at his word-- when he said 'this is my last song', and dutifully left, afterward-- expecting no encore-- & not getting one.

I was only-slightly surprised to see blissed-out fans preferring to hear the final song from the hallway-- outside the stage area-- in order to charge their phones.

Bazzi was so young, he hopped in back of a black SUV-- & went back to his hotel, without telling his management/crew he was leaving. He didn't realize he was leaving his cohorts without a ride, or that he'd missed a requisite photo-op with Apple vips-- or whatever-else revolved around him.

During the event, I was offered another gig-- which is part of the David Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. "Jade Bird" will perform. Spotify will be the sponsor. Hourly pay is double last night's meagre rate.


But I also was offered another gig-- same night as the Bowie/JadeBird thing-- which is something to-do with the Met Gala. The Met Gala is the most over-the-top red carpet event, east of the Oscars. This year they're honoring Versace & the theme is 'Catholicism'. I've heard there's a boy's choir from the Vatican & a request of no female personnel in Hair & Make-up. (A hilarious flip of all the no-males pussy-power events, this year.) Rumor is Lady Gaga is the surprise music entertainment.

Which job to take? On one hand-- the Met Gala is kinda my white whale... I work for the company which produces the event/ but they don't hire me for that gig, due to office politics. This time, I'd be working for a different company-- which does the videography. They don't pay as well. But, I'd enjoy irritating the first company by circumventing their ability to shut me out. Also, after working Dolce & Gabbana-- it would be fun to do Versace now. Thatsa lotsa italia.

On the other hand, my ex was a huge fiend for David Bowie-- & some petty part of me is a glowing ember of spite-- knowing she lost her 'in' to the Bowie thing, when she left me. (Likewise, she was a choreographer & aspired to choreograph runway shows... so my subsequent career in runway fashion... keeps that spite-ember glowing.)

There is a definite difference between the areas in CA, just look at a map of California overlayed onto Europe or any other typical country. We are very large and diverse. His first point of poverty level is a red herring. We have lots of homeless because it's a great climate. The homeless near me go away during the winter months to shelters but are back the rest of the year. In cars no less. I have no idea how they get gas money. The permanent homeless I see in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties have their spots and again the weather I would think is the major draw. Who wants to live in Nebraska if you were homeless? We need population transfers! His next point of welfare state. Again this is partially true. If one area is disproportionately giving hand outs people will come. I don't know how that works with homelessness as I don't know the relationship between welfare and homelessness as I can't see how you get a check unless you have a residence, but my point about people in cars above may be them getting handouts from a PO box or maybe a family member?

The balance is gloom and doom based on some shadowy comparison to Detroit and other places and I guess their progressive policies? Look I think it's good to think about this but California becoming a Detroit is way off, it's just too nice a place to live and our GDP is higher than Australia so unless he figures everyone just runs away because we have some homeless than it's just a bit hyperbolic. If you want to visit it's great, lots to do and see. If you want to find homeless camps and shitholes we can find those too. Also if you look at the blue vs red (Republican/Democrat) breakdown by counties, you can see where the socialist enclaves are located and know why the state is heavily red.

Our infrastructure is heavily burdened and will likely start to unravel with much more population growth.
