The issue with your solution (stop emphasising gender) assumes the cause of this is external, but I personally suspect that for the most part some people just feel this way. Sure, you are going to get transtrenders who jump on the bandwagon precisely because of the buzz around it, but you had 'gender bending' gay behaviour from otherwise straight men in the 70s- no reason to deny actual gay men exist because of that.

1) A very rare number of people internally feel they are of the opposite sex from an early age. This I'd label 'true transgender';
2) Another rare group of men have the paraphilia of being sexually aroused by imagining or seeing themselves as women. They live as men for most of their lives with no indications of dysphoria, then transition in adulthood. They usually declare themselves either 'lesbian' or asexual. These are autogynephiles like Bruce Jenner and Dave Muskrat;
3) A rare number of females who were physically masculinized in the womb by screwed up hormones end up identifying as men, the rest move to San Francisco;
4) Some same-sex-attracted people believe their attraction means they should be the opposite sex. This is culture-driven and a common, usually passing phase for many young gays;
5) A growing number of young people exhibit no indications of GD in early childhood, then suddenly declare themselves trans, usually in waves of groups of friends. A shocking number of them are teenage girls on the Autism spectrum, others are non-conforming 'gender benders', some are attention-seeking narcissists.

These are distinct phenomena, and there may be more categories. To prescribe one cure for all -- rapid transition with hormones & surgery -- is criminal.

Oh, and the brain scans don't say much at all. Living & acting as the opposite sex could easily affect the physical brain.

Absolutely normal behaviour in younger age groups is to imitate under the influence of peer pressure. So of course there will be what some have called 'transtrenders' and the younger ones will not be making a political statement like the college-age kids with blue hair; they will be truly confused. We know that 80% of kids with gender dysphoria (not capitalised as I'm including all gender unhappiness and confusion rather than just strict DSM-V cases) will eventually become content with their biological sex, but experienced clinicians who point that out get fired (see Ken Zucker's case) and the new norm is to affirm and commit the kids to an irreversible decision without waiting to see if the situation sticks. There's is even great criticism of those who prefer to conduct a proper psychological evaluation to see what else is going on (after all, at the minimum putting someone on testosterone when they have unresolved mental health conditions isn't likely to work out well). The woman who introduced the Dutch puberty-blocking regimen to America, Laura Edwards-Leeper, is now reviled for not simply tossing kids on to the regime without an assessment. The result of all this will be rising rates of de-transitioning, and if you think not all transitioners pass, think how de-transitioners get by. You lost your fertility, your breasts, your vagina or your penis. Your voice is deep and won't ever be feminine. Removing a pseudopenis and trying to fashion a neo-vagina in a pelvis filled with scar tissue from the removal of the vagina you were born with isn't going to be possible for most, and results in a caricature when it is. Then see what happens to suicide rates. Responsibility will lie at the door of the SJWs who have recklessly and irresponsibly demanded such shoddy care for children.

We now have mass amounts of kids claiming to be trans, so I think the 80% stat is going to go right out the window. I suspect it'll wind up more like 99%.

Andrew Holland, 51, was wrongly accused of possessing bestiality porn in 2009, but charges were dropped 6 months later, when authorities realized that what they thought was a video of a woman and a tiger was actually a video of a woman and a human man in a tiger costume, according to the Independent.

Now, the Welsh bus driver is fighting against the United Kingdom’s “Extreme Pornography Act,” the New Statesman reports.

Officials realized their mistake in Holland’s case when they noticed that the tiger said “That’s grrrrrrreat!” in the manner of Frosted Flakes’ Tony the Tiger. Holland was cleared of a second charge nine months later, when a 6-second-clip that prosecutors said showed violent genital mutilation turned out to be a “spoof” video featuring ketchup and cocktail sausages.

Holland says both videos had been sent to him by friends as jokes, and that even though he was eventually let off the hook, his life was permanently damaged by the accusations.

“I lost my job, I had to move and I ended up having a heart attack with all the stress of it,” he told the Independent. “People were ringing me in the middle of the night. Three young lads turned up at my door and were calling me everything. I was threatened on more than one occasion.”

Holland and his legal team want the Crown Prosecution Service to review the Extreme Pornography Act. In a letter sent to the head of the CPS last week, Holland’s lawyers say that none of this would have happened if the U.K.’s Extreme Pornography Act, a measure implemented in 2008, were not so vague.


His attorneys argue that because the law uses “inherently subjective” terms like “grossly offensive” and “disgusting,” it’s not clear what constitutes an “extreme” image under the law:

After four years, autistic creator of a subreddit tries to delete it, as he is annoyed with the bigotry that often is expressed within, gets overruled by admins and hounded by the mods and redditors.

FWIW, I think the creator of a subreddit or the FT at SP should be able to delete their creation, regardless of how many people have subbed to it. As a guest, I'd hate to see the SP go away just as I get value from KIA, but I think it's bullshit that the creator cannot delete his own subreddit.

The best theory I heard was that the admin needs KIA to exist as "it contains the group" and they don't want the shitshow that would arise with its deletion as reddit goes open warfare.

This was a terrific podcast, esp at 1.5x. Glenn is an MIT trained economist, often described as conservative, McWhorter a linguist, a more progressive, moderate liberal.

This discussion was not quite a fight, and these two are obviously good friends, but the gist is, is Trump an idiot 13 year old who can't see past his immediate needs and presumably a puppet of his staff and donors, or is Trump this wildly effective guy reshaping the US to his well thought out plan.

I don't think either point of view is correct, but it was a very entertaining, and actually fun podcast to listen to while walking.
