Couldn't disagree more. Their critiques, or the critiques of their sponsored experts, of science-based papers frequently involve allegations of data tampering, dishonesty, conspiracy and "follow the money" arguments. Not to mention outright misrepresentations of what the papers say.

Why did you bother to do that? That was part of my point. It comes down to the science, and the body of science is at odds with what the "skeptics" claim. The exaggerators are a problem and should be criticised. That can be done by contrasting their statements with what the science says. However, "skeptics are not generally doing that, they are trying to cast doubt on the science BAMN.

The scale of hypocrisy here is so staggering it's almost impressive. People, often young women, who dare to speak up can expect to face public harassment and private retribution. The response to the death of Alec Holowka throws this double standard into razor-sharp relief. The harassment of Quinn and others has nothing to do with concern for Holowka and his family and everything to do with making examples of women and queer people who dare to speak out. The message is clear: Men’s mental health matters more than women’s. Men’s suffering and self-loathing is treated as a public concern, because men are permitted to be real people whose inner lives and dreams matter. Who cares, then, how many women they destroy along the way?"

I just googled "Men's Health Center" for my area and got a listing for Walmart Pharmacy. Sounds about right.

I suspect the MRAs figured out the victimhood game and decided to play it. That's not good for society.

South Korea is an example of this I think. They have a history of being oppressed by larger neighbors, but instead of focusing on that they focused on improving their society through industry and entertainment. I think they have plenty of grievances that they could nurse against Japan and China, but until very recently they have not taken that approach. I think it has been overall better for Koreans to take that path instead of wallowing in self-pity.

Please ignore this I you want cause it is just a story about my weekend -

How strange life is ... with twists and turns.

Something kicked in with my wife and she somehow likes and even loves me again. We had a remarkably good day yesterday, which is very odd all things considered.

Her sister, who has been in a nursing home for four years, is dying. She had a massive stroke four years ago and has had only the partial use of one hand ever since (no use of her right hand and no use of either leg). She could barely use her hand well enough to hold a spoon, and that was sketchy. After four years with no improvement in her mobility she was in constant pain, couldn't sit up or roll over, etc. She was on an anti-psychotic because she was hallucinating purple rats in her room. Lot's of pain meds.

So, she decided to end it by getting hospice to drug her up and she stopped eating. On Saturday she was no longer lucid or responsive. She would blink when you cleaned her face... but that's it. She is just laying there... with a cannula in her nose... and she stares at the ceiling. She could be dead today... or next week I guess...who knows. I wouldn't want to live the way she was living. It's like a having your brain in a box which was constantly on drugs and in pain. Really awful.

And my wife's other sister and a nephew stayed at our house last night which is close to the nursing home. And the four of us got drug/high... and the sister and nephew argued about who was the most wicked and dishonest of the two. They live together in a kind of symbiotic mutual hatred society. My wife and I give them a little poke here and there and try to give them some advice on how to better communicate (like we are so fucking great at that).

We all agreed to take my sister-in-laws ashes up to her cottage in Northern Michigan and toss them in her favorite lake (don't tell anyone... it's illegal to do this). This is where she lived when life was good for her. A husband, and lake access, and some little dogs, and a son. The husband died young, the son gassed himself to death in her garage, the dogs eventually died. But, things where good for a while. Lesson: Don't take the good times for granted.

I had a great time meeting up with a friend yesterday. She wants to sell her Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol, so we went shooting. I really had a great time shooting with her and I will buy her gun. She doesn't use it, and she is as broke as a broke-dick dog. She is poor enough to get on Medicaid, and she doesn't like to take it because it makes her feel guilty. She has severe depression and anxiety so she had to quit her job. She wants to work, but has trouble is stress environments... and... she is on five (yes five) psych meds. She is working with her doctor to reduce the number and she found a new doctor. Her old doctor admitted to simply tossing meds at her till something stuck... so now she has no idea which meds are really helping. But, anyway, we both had a really nice visit and shot some holes in some paper.

Anyway - I can't believe how good I feel now that my wife stopped hating on me. Fucking weird life.

Maybe better than you own than she, huh? That's a solid gun. Upgrade the sights, though.

Tulsi did Dave Rubin, and came out for reparations. So is that proof she's not a Putin puppet?

I hate to say it but Biden seems to be the only viable candidate against Trump.

I'd need reparations after watching an entire hour of Dave Rubin -- did she full-on support reparations, or is this just about sponsoring the bill to study reparations? Cuz all the POTUS candidates in Congress have. They'd have been crucified had they not.

That being said, slave reparations is a massively stupid and offensive idea that will kill any dem nominee.

Biden can't go the distance, while none of the open borders socialists can win the general election. The leftist MSM is pushing Joe and ignoring other moderates cuz they want someone vulnerable for Lizzie or Bernie to beat.

NB: Tulsi isn't a Russian puppet, but she is still a member of the neo-hindu cult she grew up in. But I like her poise anyway and how she gets under the Establishment Dems' skins.

I found this guide to the democratic candidates from Rolling Stone useful. It lists where candidates stand on the issues. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/p ... ns-820811/

Harris doesn't look too bad. She said she was open to the idea of reparations but her idea of reparations is increased spending on mental health. Her immigration policy is a bit murky but she hasn't come out for decriminalization of border jumping nor as she completely jumped on the abolish ICE.

It was mostly about sponsoring the bill and how the deleterious effects of slavery are still present today. That sort of thing.
I agree with her on a lot of things. This isn't one of them.

Sister-in-law is dead. She slipped away pretty quickly after she lost her lucidity on Friday.

We cleaned out her room at the nursing home today with her dead body in the bed next to us. Death is strange.

My wife is spending some time thinking she didn't do enough for her. I keep reminding her that her sister was not her responsibility and that she did more than enough to help over the years. Hopefully she will not start blaming herself for her sister's death etc.

We could have spent our lives sitting at her bedside, feeding her, and keeping her entertained. We could have given up our lives for her life. But we didn't. And even if we had, we would not have prevented her from declining into insanity and constant pain. But, it's kind of fucked up... and my wife has been talking about what a bad person she is.... because she didn't do more.

We will have an open house and service at our house on Friday.... bring in some food... have a fire outside. Should be good. Good bye sis.

I like the jokes about my depressed friend selling me her Glock. Haha. yeah.... I should get that gun away from her. Buy a gun... save a life! I also agree that the sights need to be upgraded and I may buy a laser sight.... for shooting baddies at night.

She had heart disease and diabetes. She loved Coke-a-Cola. One night she chugged a bunch of soda and spiked her sugar and had a massive stroke. She was passed out on the floor for half a day before she was found. She lost the use of her right side and most of her left. Never recovered and got slowly worse. A very sad way to go. Cheers to my sis-in-law! She lived and died the way she wanted! Slow death by Soda-pop.

Couldn't disagree more. Their critiques, or the critiques of their sponsored experts, of science-based papers frequently involve allegations of data tampering, dishonesty, conspiracy and "follow the money" arguments. Not to mention outright misrepresentations of what the papers say.
We probably need to agree to disagree, then, as we're starting to talk past one another. I think you see meretricious presentations by the likes of Moncton, Fred Singer, or Marc Morano and assign those as the typical output of these organizations, while scientifically sound critiques by the likes of Judith Curry, Bjorn Lomborg, Roy Spencer, or Nir Shaviv are outliers, whereas I do the reverse.

According to Dongular, this is an older event and as such, it may have already been kicked around here. Anyway, this is quite an interesting subject - does the state have the right to outright ban an adult from having intercourse with a willing adult partner? Don't get me wrong, it's not a cut & dried situation but still, I think lines have been crossed.

Anyway, watch the vid...

Interesting autoethnographic essay regarding breaking out of the 'woke' dogma bubble:

Nuance: a love story

A sample:
Words like “mansplaining” and “gaslighting” were suddenly in heavy rotation, often invoked with such elasticity as to render them nearly meaningless. Similarly, the term “woke,” which originated in black activism, was being now used to draw a bright line between those on the right side of things and those on the wrong side of things. The parlance of wokeness was being used online so frequently that it began to strike me as disingenuous, even a little desperate. After all, these weren’t just meme-crazed youngsters flouting their newly minted critical studies degrees. Many were in their forties and fifties, posting photos from their kids’ middle school graduations along with rage-filled jeremiads about toxic masculinity. One minute they were asking for recommendations for gastroenterologists in their area. The next, they were adopting the vocabulary of Tumblr, typing things like I.Just.Cant.With.This., and This is some fucked, patriarchal bullshit, amiright?

Granted, I was primed to be maximally annoyed, since, after decades of paying little attention to the interests of the generations that followed my own, I was suddenly consumed by the political activism of a very vocal minority of younger people, mostly millennials. The values of this minority were more or less in sync with my own. Still, there was something about the tone in which they espoused them, their very inflection, that made me feel like I was simultaneously being sent to my room by my mother and banned from a lunch table by the mean girls.

To my ears, every utterance was a scold, every reaction an eye roll, every policy idea (no matter how impractical) shot through with disgusted disbelief that no one had thought of it before. “Problematic,” that all-purpose recrimination for any person, place, or thing deemed insufficiently inclusive of all people, places, and things, was more weapon than word. Another operative word was “exhausted.” So intractable and unreasonable were their opponents that it was exhausting to have to keep repeating themselves. So persecuted were those whose identities veered outside the margins of white, heteronormative capitalist society that daily life itself amounted to a series of “violences” in which they were forced to “explain their humanity.” My very smart friends seemed to be lapping it up.

In my rural innocence I was unaware of those who enjoy a breeding/abortion fetish. Avoid contraception, enjoy the pregnancy up to, say, 24 weeks, then abort it. Rinse and repeat.

Why, it's almost enough to make even one of those 'woke' people get all authoritarian and say that while they fully support the right of all to a full and satisfying sexual life free of judgement, it might not be quite their cup of tea.

Me? I think after the majority of abortions we throw the wrong one away.

I'll shut up again after this, but do you think she - Sarah Hagi - likes the movie?
For someone like me, a young woman who doesn’t read comic books but watches movies based on them with zero emotional investment or expectations, it is hard not to think about how a certain audience of men will perceive this version of the Joker.
And if you can be bothered:
TIFF 2019: Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is the antihero the alienated and angry have been waiting for, and that’s precisely the problem

I mention it only as an older man (not sure why that's relevant but one must keep up with the Hagis) who also doesn't read comic books, and does watch movies, but very few based on comic books for the same reason I don't read them. There's a connection there that she missed. If you don't read them why watch them? If the only reason is to write about what a miserable experience you had for the Globe & Mail (ie for money), I begin to see why you might want to make it a matter of systemic patriarchal oppression. One wants to be invited back for another lucrative article. I can understand that (especially as this appears to be the only article she has written for the G&M), just as I understand why a shark might want to bite me, or a Group A Strep want to dissolve my flesh. One has to live, to pay the rent and buy the groceries. But there is a better path: why not read what you enjoy or find educational, and watch only movies with the same criteria? I don't care about people watching superhero (or, possibly, super-antihero in this case) movies. Good for them. I hope they felt their dollars well spent. Why should you tell us what we should watch, whether we should enjoy it, or, best of all, whether we should hate what we just watched, and especially if we enjoyed it? Ah, yes, rent and groceries. Always the very worst motives of all, for anything at all, anywhere and at any time. And thus I shall continue to shit upon self-proclaimed young/old women/men who read or watch things other people might enjoy and try to destroy any potential pleasure. Sarah Hagi, your name is killjoy, and you should have been born a Presbyterian instead of one who has completed the hajj.

About three hours ago I had a puff of some home-grown grass. I'll not go into details (boring) but will say this...damn! Music takes on a whole new dimension (I feel there's a pun lurking in there somewhere) and this, a long time favourite piece of music, just about reduced me to tears.

Damn, I said I'd shut up. Did I ever describe the time I was involved in a grow op and a lab processing the stuff for a pop festival, all courtesy of Thames Water?

She thinks it's her job to inform any man who might relate to the new joker that his reaction is a social problem. Because men, particularly of the privileged white variety, should never take vicarious cinematic joy or release in a story that even allegorically sympathizes with their plight.

In other words, it's a young woke female version of why and how Trump got elected.

It's funny to think about the inhuman creature wokies (like wookies but shorter and hairless) think white men really are: apparently secure and without need, reliable: that is able to keep society running, but without the human need for any type of emotional release.

My fashion week work wrapped-up today. It ended with an afternoon nap, from-which I woke & couldn't tell if I was sick... or sad.
Which stomach-knot feeling was it? Both, at the same time, probably. I had one more day scheduled-- 6am tomorrow-- but I bowed-out.

I only want to be descriptive-- not melodramatic. In short: I work for a lovably kooky guy who hired a bitchy kooky manager who hired a circus
of complete kooks. The gays are stereotypical bird-brains. I suspect the immigrants don't-just sound retarded because english is their 2nd language-- I think they're dumb back in Chile & Argentina & Puerto Rico, too. The young black girls don't seem to have experienced the world 10-miles-beyond their single mom's subsidized apartment. The grungy hipster white d00ds are all surface-image, with no fixie-bike handyman skills to go-with their frayed black jeans. And the batty young neurotic white girls definitely all have full-blown toxoplasmosis. Sadly, my girlfriend & I fit-in a little too well with these weirdo losers. I'd better-not ask too-loud, 'why was *I* invited to this Dinner For Schmucks!?!'

I'm ashamed that the allegedly-glamorous Fashion Industry of reputedly-glamorous New York City-- can only muster such a pathetic crew. But-- then I also realize that the genuinely-glamorous people are pretty-bad, too. The front row couldn't keep their legs uncrossed-- and their programs out of their laps, and their cellphones close to their body-- for just a few minutes-- so the models could walk-by & be photographed, without audience limbs and junk ruining the shot, no-matter how-many times the ushers asked them to please do-so. And some Important Photographer Guy with a giant lens punctuated the show with SHOUTING-- it sounded like he was saying "Asshole!", about 12 times over 2 minutes-- I guess he was trying to make people retract their limbs... but I gripped the boxcutter in my pocket-- scanning to see if a terrorist was about to open-fire. He was far-worse than whatever he was yelling-about.

I had a few things I considered writing here, over the last couple days-- like one show used that little boy called 'Desmond Is Amazing', who does drag, as a model. Another thing to feel gross/repulsed/sick about. Or not? I don't know. For me, there was a poignant juxtaposition between John D's posts about his private family troubles-- and decadent, expensive, pointless public spectacle of fashion week. Many things John said were familiar to my own relations. There's even one noteworthy missing-link between those two distant sides of life. Decades ago, back in Asia, my girlfriend's father gave a shady business associate's son-- a Rolex-- as an 18th birthday gift. Now my gf's father is old & poor & his wife is having a hard time-- recently admitted to a nursing home. The rolex-son is now a wealthy adult. This week, he visited gf's father & they went to see her mother in the nursing home. I was very interested in the re-crossing of these people's paths. I'm curious how-well the reciprocity of social obligations will function. Will the grown Rolex kid repay the gift with generosity now-- somewhere in the ballpark of the price-of-a-rolex-plus-interest? It it more reliable than the promise that I'll ever someday collect Social Security & Medicare?

Don't fret. Turns out, it's not our problem.

In recent years he’s been repeatedly assailed as a bigot and racist. He is neither. The trouble with Harris is more prosaic: he just doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

PZ Myers already got this one.
Harris is all of them, a bigot, racist and ignorant idiot.

I read his book The End of Faith.
Or tried to, I got halfway through and gave up, something rare for me to do.
He spends most of his time Muslim/Islam bashing.
It’s not even totally wrong.
But it isn’t our problem!!!
I live in the USA, surrounded by fanatical, ignorant fundie xians who want to kill me, helped destroy my 401(K) plan***, and send me their intentions as death threats quite often.
I’ve never gotten a single death threat from…a Muslim, or anyone else but fundie xians.

***The 401(K) plan like millions of others, had a near death experience during the Bush Great Recession catastrophe.
Strangely enough, it was resurrected by Obama. Thanks Obama!!!

So there's this movie coming out called "Hustlers" about strippers who rob their wealthy clients. It stars Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, and Lizzo. It's getting rave reviews though its IMDB score is 4.8.
Okay, I'm gay and haven't been to a titty bar in a very long time, but have straight men's taste in strippers changed and now middle-aged, and or flat chested, and or fat, strippers are popular?

Eh, I don't mind flat-chested, as it tends to go with super petite and that tends to work for me. Never been to a stripper bar, though.

Someone pointed out to me that 9.10.19 began 10 days of palindromes, where the dates are the same when reversed. Apparently, this many palindrome dates in a row is highly unusual.
Apologies if WEIT already mentioned this, but I haven’t had time to read that site lately.
