Speaking of Melissa McEwan/Shakesville - has anyone seen her Encylopedia Dramatica entry yet? It's very, very mean, but I certainly did LOL.

I have to say, going against the majority view here, but I don't give a shit what happens to Adria and have no pity for her.

I welcome any further negative feedback, though, especially if it has something specific to go on, like a quote.
My feedback is neither positive or negative - just hopefully helpful. I read you a little while back talking about developing the term 'foundationalism'. As I am sure you know, this will make many people assume that you are getting all technical about epistemology.
Actually, when I heard him mention Foundationalism, I thought he and his group would soon be going underground and we wouldn't hear about them again until after the galactic culture starts to recover from the collapse with their help... but then maybe I'm the only one old enough to remember Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. I think I read them in the 70s.

That's interesting. I notice they mentioned the code of conduct had been changed because of these events. And sure enough, it had - they have the old and new code of conduct available (the new one is under source code style control). The part of the code about attendees reporting incidents:
Old PyCon Code wrote:2.Report the harassment incident (preferably in writing) to a conference staff member - all reports are confidential.
Now reads:
New PyCon Code wrote:2. 2.Report the harassment incident (preferably in writing) to a conference staff member. All reports are confidential. Please do not disclose public information about the incident until the staff have had sufficient time in which to address the situation. This is as much for your safety and protection as it is the other attendees.
So does PeeZus now accept that twitter is not a suitable method of incident reporting for the future, or does he think does he prefer to pick and choose which parts of harassment policies that he agrees with, and ignore those he doesn't?

re: donglegate
I don't mind that Adria tweeted as long as she didn't post the pic or identify the guys where they can't defend themselves. She can post her offense at meaningless jokes as much as she wants and we can just laugh. Who also should have mostly just laughed is the boss of the guy who made the dongle joke. Why hasn't that company been the target of anon since it was all just lolworthy until somebody added ott consequences?

Ok, so the women getting all the attention in the last bit... Ellenbeth due to the horde dumping on her, the donglegate tweeter for getting martyred, the feminist in the blog war with peezus, melody before that... this all has to be seriously burning RW's ass that women are being talked about and it's not her. I wonder what she's going to pull this week.

I wasn't even the proverbial twinkle in my father's eye for some of the seventies - and somewhat incapable of tackling Asimov for the rest of 'em.

I particularly like #3, where she basically says that Richards shouldn't have to go to the conference organizers because that would mean having to miss the presentation. Couldn't she have just gone to them afterwards?
She had twitter in the audience on her phone. Could she not have sent a text to the organisers ?
She could have sent the tweets to the conf. organizers via twitter without the fucking picture.

Clarke and Ellison, they got in, got done, and got the fuck out.

Gah! I just realized Nugent's put up two more posts. No chance of actually catching up. None.

So, I won't be doing the 'catch up first' thing, which JG, Apples, and others will be glad to hear. Also, I'm starting to get more long-term motivation to get a wiki up and running. (This is not typical for me, usually motivation comes and goes somewhat randomly. But when the same need pops up over and over, like atheism v. religion, it can build into a long-term thing, which is good. The wiki thing is definitely a good long-term need I think.) So, no need to get everything all commented on at once. Can gather things over time.

What's the general consensus on wiki software/sites these days? I've tried wikispaces (a mostly-free wiki site), which has very nice UI, but a bit simplistic in terms of wiki power features. And tried mediawiki (Wikipedia's software, free but needs hosting), which is pretty much the opposite, very powerful, more simplistic UI. Anything out there that's a bit of both? I haven't looked into it for about a year now.

Only one listed that I ever found readable was Clarke. If any of them paved the way for Kim Stanley Robinson though, then they're all right by me. The sheer breadth of learning in The Mars Trilogy was breathtaking.

HIs point was, if your site is such a good place to research current science, perhaps you (as a respected scientist, noted Prof and such) might have thought about at least younger visitors or people who might not like that.
Here's the thing, Jonny-Boy. The internet is grown-up land. It's not PZ's responsibility to keep kids from seeing words that other people think kids shouldn't see. Kids aren't hurt by seeing "fuck" and "shit" and "pussy" and "wanker," and they generally appreciate being considered mature enough to handle seeing those words. In fact, if people are serious about researching science (especially biology where you expect to talk about things like sex and death and excrement) they should, whatever their age, understand that swear words are just words. Again, it's the internet; if people need a fucking disclaimer everywhere they might see something upsetting, they shouldn't be online.
But what about the wimmenz?

I don't see where PZ is right in the least. This is about a scientific dispute, raised by scientists, that needs to be resolved by experiments to be performed by scientists. Philosophy has got nothing useful to add.

I agree, but you have to admit, they're running AWFULLY hard towards her right now.

Here are five reasons why feminists should try to eliminate meat:

1. Eating meat is associated with male power in its most vile and repugnant forms.
I think we are in a post Poe's Law world, ladies and gentlemen.

Sexism, racism, and objectification on national TV. Dongle joke included. Where's the outrage, P.Z. Myers? This is sexist terrorism! Jesus Christ. This whole thing is dripping with white privilege. Where's the fucking outrage, FTB?

We all know George Hrab, right? Close personal friend of Becky, etc. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, he mentioned a friend of a friend's kids not immediately knowing who someone was referring to when asked about the "black kid". "But he's brown...?" or something like that. Anyway, Geo got a letter from a SJW about it. Color blindness = ERASING and RACISM and George is PRIVILEGED and blah blah blah. Geo tells him to stop listening to the show, and nobody else send me any of these stupid fucking letters about privilege.

I guess even Becky's friends get tired of this shit PDQ when it's thrown in their direction.

To be fair to George Hrab, he has (pretty much) stayed out of the drama ever since it escalated with elevatorgate. Can't say I have seen or heard him talk about it at all really.

So I think it's unfair to lump Geo in with those SJW people like Becky's friends as you call it.

Yep - that's pretty old!

I wasn't even the proverbial twinkle in my father's eye for some of the seventies - and somewhat incapable of tackling Asimov for the rest of 'em.

Sorry, dude :D
Yeah, I'm even too old to be a submariner.

I read them in the early '70s too (along with discovering HP Lovecraft), and I remember the cool covers which gave a neat panoramic picture when you put all three together - there were only three then.

Yes of course I have read the trilogy. The big three, all gone now. Asimov, Clarke and Heinlein.
I tried, but fuck Asimov. Him and Herbert couldn't tell you "hello" in under 400 pages.

Clarke and Ellison, they got in, got done, and got the fuck out.
I don't know, welch. I,Robot was all short stories and was really good.

That's OK I got it.

Objectification and Sexualization of a Visible Minority with a Double Entendre every five seconds.

I hear you as far as Herbert is concerned, though I did love the first Dune book. I like his presentation of political maneuvering, all the subtext of what is said between characters.

But Asimov takes 400 pages to say hello? He made it through 500 years of galactic history in less than a thousand!

Meyers has done a little roundtable video with some FfTB people. It's on YouTube.

I genuinely don't think I have ever seen a single YT video, other than Meyers's, where the uploader has kept secret the number of views.

What a sad little cunt, desperate for the world to believe he is a bigshot within one of his "fields of expertise" (atheism and developmental biology), when he is actually a spent force in both. I am proud to be a part of this movement, which actively questions his claim to being relevant in either these days (if he ever was in science, seemingly having always been a teacher rather than a learner. A single postdoc Nature paper is not necessarily an indication of serious scientific input).

I guess he is terrified that we learn the true length of his penis strength of his horde.

Asimov, longwinded?

You've never read him, have you?
