She has chosen what is, in her mind, the side of good. She has no option to temper her views or amid uncertainty about her opponents.
Rebecca has deemed Harriet Hall to be a smelly old bore.
Ophelia has no choice but to agree.
FWIW, the cesspit of lies links such cognitive splitting with narcissistic behaviors:
People matching the diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder also use splitting as a central defense mechanism. Most often the narcissist does this as an attempt to stabilize his/her sense of self positively in order to preserve his/her self-esteem, by perceiving himself/herself as purely upright or admirable and others who do not conform to his/her will or values as purely wicked or contemptible. Given "the narcissist's perverse sense of entitlement and splitting. . .he can be equally geared, psychologically and practically, towards the promotion and towards the demise of a certain collectively beneficial project." (Abdennur, the Narcissistic Principle of Equivalence)[7]
The cognitive habit of splitting also implies the use of other related defense mechanisms, namely idealization and devaluation, which are preventative attitudes or reactions to narcissistic rage and narcissistic injury.[8]

I'm pretty sure I originated the use of "darkie" on the 'pit, too. ^_^ Because it's exactly what SJW mean using "people of colour" - it doesn't mean people who experience racism, or people who are from a foriegn culture, or people who have been traditionally oppressed, or people who are in their homeland the oppressed culture, or anything that might remotely make sense. It means darkies. You can be the dominant power in your country, you can be rich and powerful, you can have never experiened a smidgen of racism because... well, you're part of a culture or class or country that doesn't buy into that kind of shit, but fuuuhkkk you're still a bloody darkie. It means people who are not white enough to pass as their US-centric "normal" - people they wouldn't be inviting to their dinner parties.

They are creeeeepy fucks.

They have this funny idea that being colourblind is a bad thing. The thing is, being colourblind is really the new normal. Kids grow up with all different kinds of people these days. My rural-ly living in-laws in conservative Australia have relatives of virtually every race at this point. People grow up with family members who aren't the same race as they are or don't present as the same race visibly, despite being their closest genetic relatives. This is the real world. Their fucking shit makes no sense.
The term "people of color" is a pretty weird and oft abused term. There was a time, many years ago, when it was a euphemism for blacks, but since the 1980s or so it is usually supposed to be applicable to anyone who isn't "white". However, increasingly I see it being applied to people from ethnic groups that have NOT historically been considered either non-white or oppressed. The Spanish actress Penelope Cruz was referred to as a "person of color" by an announcer at some awards show a few years back (the absurd suggestion was made that her having been nominated for an Oscar - or whatever the award was - was something of a rosa Parks or Jackie Robinson moment). I've seen Kim Kardashian referred to as a "person of color", presumably by virtue of being half Armenisn (?). I've even seen the actor David Schwimmer of TV show "Friends" fame has claimed he is a "person of color" by virtue of his being Jewish. And then there are people who, despite looking like member of the British Royal family, will claim to be a PoC by virtue of some remote and unverified Native-American ancestry (e.g. Elizabeth Warren, Ward Churhchill, several A-plussers, etc.). It can get pretty Orwellian, as certain ethnic groups considered "privileged whites" (e.g. Italians) generally have the same phenotype as ethnic groups considered "oppressed people of color" (e.g. Spaniards).

In any event, in all it's incarnations, I've always found the term to be very condescending.

If you ran into this guy at the grocery store, would you treat him like a white guy or a PoC? ("you" meaning anyone who might react differently -I'm not saying that for you, Submariner, there'd be a difference):

http://www.fox23.com/media/lib/13/8/7/f ... /Story.jpg

I'm just imaging an SJW treating him like a typical white cis-man (you know, like he's de facto an MRA-and-a-rapist), then finding out he's actually the current Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation (= instant-victimized-culture-cred!)

I've been tempted to troll some SJW assholes about this kind of thing, but I would have to piss on my family's basic dignity to do it, so I don't.

Although I look mostly like me english/irish roots, a good part of my family, including my direct line on my dad's side, is straight off the Reservation. I'm 1/8 on dad's side, 1/16 on mom's. (I do tan a lot better than most crackers). My Granddad was the first to leave, and got beat up and threatened with worse a couple of times by those kind, upstanding, good christians of Oklahoma. He had to join the Navy in WWII just to get a goddamn job, and then after, had to pick fruit and live in a farm work camp like all the other darkies. Lots of other more-or-less "white" people went through this. If you go back just two and three generations (well after slavery), my family has had almost as much oppression, violence, and poverty as any other "underprivileged" group. Not to piss on the disadvantaged, but modern-day Mexican immigrants have it almost easy in comparison. Hell, some of my cousins were still picking grapes and lettuce every summer well into the 80's, and only a handful have ever even set foot in a junior college. Yet somehow, we muddle on.

WHAR MY GODDAM VICTIM POYNTS????? WHAR????????? ( I suppose I could actually re-join the family tribe, and then be eligible for certain dubious benefits, but then I would actually see myself as a bit of a victim. I think I'll stay in California anyway.)

Lol: The Chief in the pic looks like a whiter version of my Granddad before he went bald.

If you doubt me – go into a group of men, tell them you love 1) shooting guns 2) some random misogynist band 3) gaming 4) football and 5) pornography – and that you are an engineering student who plays drums.

Then go into a group of men ans tell them you love 1) cooking 2) Tori Amos 3) blogging 4) gymnastics and 5) cuddling – and that you are a nursing student who plays flute.

Being involved in male-dominated fields is a one-way ticket to being considered exceptional – and even LIKING random male-dominated hobbies will get you noticed.

It just will – regardless of WHY you like those things.
Besides the blatant stereotyping by defining what men must like or dislike based on them being men, she also seems to think that she has made a startling discovery by noticing that men people tend to notice and even like women people who have similar interests and hobbies as them.
That's not misogyny or patriarchy in action, it's basic human nature.

And I hate to over-compare victim status, so I will modify my last rant and specify that immigrants, especially illegal ones, have a whole set of barriers all their own. My family never had a language barrier (at least, not within the last 100 years or more), and they all got to vote, etc. No houses were burned down. My point about immigrants was that access to a decent economy and basic services is now easier for even illegal immigrants than it was for almost ANYBODY other than the rich just a couple of generations ago. My granddad was the last one who really had to deal with high levels of social prejudice, like not being able to get a job because of race issues, threats of violence, or getting a lot of dirty looks(or worse) for being with a "nice white girl".

For SOME populations of men, maybe the complaint is true...but so what, even if it is true? What is wrong with liking things that are liked by a group you wish to be a part of? of course the same is true of any group, but if it's a group of women, you won't hear the caterwauling about sexism.

It is a huge load of stereotype too. I like Tori Amos, and can't stand say, Ted Nugent (WTF is a misogynist band, anyway? The only thing I can think of is some rap music, and only some of that). I'm also a pretty snappy cook, and I enjoy blogging and cuddling. I also like some gaming (but not obsessively), I like shooting, and I like porn. I don't like football.

So WTF? Just more bigoted dogshit that would never be applied to women doing the exact same type of social interaction.

I have told plenty of men that I love cooking, two of them were respectively the Executive and Sous Chef of the two fine dining restaurants I worked at. I was working the cold line and fucking loving it.

Fun fact: I once abandoned my engineering career to work in commercial kitchens. I fucking love cooking.

EllenBeth and the rest of the Baboons do have this strange obsession with rape, don't they.

I reckon a lot of them fantasise about it. Sometimes the fantasies involve porcupines, as well.

Hate guns and football.

Love cooking and cuddling.

Gymnastics? Sign me up.

Porn? Can take it or leave it.

Dunno what the rest actually means.

Sounds like a Sociopath trying to work out complex social interactions and, as they all do, picking a simple feminist model to tick the boxes for them.

Wow. Just saw Ophie's Marcotte-love post in my feed. I really like the way she tries to put herself into the picture at the end:

"And a world packed with women who get respect because they are terrific bloggers and/or writers."

Yeah....nevermind people who actually do something. That would never do. Let's give the respect to people who write or blog. Instead of doing anything useful.

Yeah...I'll pass. I'll stick to the activists and people who actually do things and change the world for the better, rather than sit on their asses and sponge off others by writing about those people (or worse, writing negatively about those people). Fucking slackers.

Fun fact: many Zulus aren't anywhere near 'Zulu warrior' on that scale.

What happens if I go into a random group of women and tell them that? (not so crazy about football though, but I do like cooking, and Tori Amos in moderation)

Hey, I made it to a list! This must be what it's like to be an internet atheist celebrity like Rebecca Watson. I had better go play video games and get drunk to celebrate.

I am depressed. I didn't make EBW's list. :crying-yellow:
Don't feel bad, I never make it on lists like that either, even though I had a far more impressive moustache when I was fourteen than Vacula can manage now.

Huh? WTF, again. She called us on it? And having a PoC (sorry rayshul, just using it for the cliche) call herself a darkie is racist? WTdoubleF? And John Brown's a 'Pitter?
The dishonest despicable people that they are can’t own that.
Own what, EllenBeth Nutcase, own what?
John Brown came after me on twitter to use a smear campaign of lies calling me a racist in multiple tweets as if I were the one that said it and using the hashtag #ftbullies.
"... came after me on twitter...." Ya, I saw a film of him racing down the Florida boulevards in his mighty, Wachsdoodle stompin' Twittermobile. Magic.

Looneytune indeed.
Looks to me like Apples was the first to use it here early this morning and which is what Wachs is referring to.

And my impression – only that as I’m somewhat sarcasm-challenged – is that is what she is employing by calling John Brown a rapist: if he is going to call her a racist – when she hadn’t used the word “darkies” except to refer to a previous comment by Apples – then she is just as entitled to call him a rapist.

I'm relaxed. I was just elucidating a counterpoint to the the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the futility of making such lists.

Just take a look at the link she tweeted (http://prntscr.com/tw89r) and then say again "Hi, Ellen Beth!"
oolon claims I am a lier with form by means of linking to an article on Butterflies and Wheels where Ophelia goes full Ellenbeth Wachs about me and mordacious1. Ophelia freaked out because I pointed out that she had given personal information about a famous anonymous 'author' that allowed his real identity to be easily revealed!
Apparently we were lying lying bastards!
Unfortunately for Ophelia she had forgotten to memory hole the comment that proved that it was her, in fact, who was lying!
Hey oolon, I guess you are still reading here.
Go fuck yourself! :D
Seem to remember that “Author” himself refuted any and all charges that Benson had outed him:

I can confirm that the “outing” accusation is utter bullshit.

No, I was just copying the word used earlier:)

The colour of someone's skin is not referred to much unless describing someone. If anyone used 'Person of Colour' they would be laughed at.
As a 'merkin I've never heard it used except in a tongue-in-cheek context -- like a blaxploitation film or a welch post. I'd guess its use (if it was ever really used much by minorities as a slur against whites) peaked in the early 70s. I'd think 'cracker' had/has more currency as a sincere slur against whites.
I've never heard honky used except on The Jeffersons. I did hear the term xonq nop (pronounced honk nope) which means "red ears" used as a pejorative for white people when I was in Africa.

And it's not only gender-based epithets that are "fair game" (from Marcotte's article again, no disagreement from her or her commenters so far):
