Here's the funny thing about good old EllenBeth Wachs. I know pretty much nothing about her. Save for when she pops up on threads I'm reading or tweeting out stupid shit as we've all seen here, she is completely off my radar.

And yet, the first time I tweeted about her racism (regarding the tweet where she screencapped the discussion here, which she couldn't even competently quotemine, btw), she immediately retorted with the "Go fight more with the Bee," statement.

There's no way she could have known anything about that unless she was keeping up with some stupid YouTube back and forth I was having with WBB several days ago.

Who is obsessive now?

But, I'd like to just state once more that good old EllenBeth Wachs is the easiest person in the world to troll. I tweeted a few things her direction and she provided us with enough stupidity and lulz to last for months.

Since you're reading this, EllenBeth (bless your cotton socks), I might remind you that context matters. If you're going to smear people, at least do it competently and have evidence to back you up.

But, I digress. My whole point in this is simple. You're a racist loon.

Looks like a serious non-sequitur on Wachs’ part for one thing – presumably any “game” is likely to be “up” in the event of that hypothetical rape.

But a bit of a stretch on Vacula’s part to state that her statement was “insinuating” that he is a rapist, particularly since it would mean that she is saying or implying that he had already done so. And I certainly don’t get that from her tweet.

Harriet Hall tried to explain how she felt and her own actions, and yet all they can do is try to come up with psychomagicry to explain why we really can't pay attention to her and her opinions. She clearly must have some ulterior motives to explain not agreeing with them.
If I had any shred of sympathy for Ophelia remaining, it has dispersed on the dust- and pollen-laden winds out of the Panhandle, with her latest post attacking Harriet Hall. Medical schools and residency programs in the US are so much more gender-balanced than they were even 10 years ago*. Most medical school entering (and graduating) classes are almost evenly split between male and female; our entering classes have been between 48 and 52% female over the last decade. Women have no hesitation applying for, and are accepted into, every residency program you can think of: general surgery**, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pathology, neurology, cardiology, urology, hematology-oncology, etc., become chief residents in their programs, and succeed in their chosen specialties. There are many successful female MDs in academic medicine and clinical research as well.

This sea change in the gender distribution of physicians in the US didn't just happen, Ophelia. It was made possible in large part by the persistence, courage, and determination of female physicians like Dr. Hall. Young women who excel academically and are interested in healthcare professions have been able to look at MDs like Dr. Hall, and realize the possibilities for success in medical school and a career as a physician. So you can fuck right off with your ridiculous self-involved manufactured drama. Fuck. Right. Off.

* I'm aware that the US is way behind more progressive European and South American countries, with regards to percentages of physicians who are female.

** I have a friend (a few years younger than Dr. Hall) who was a general surgeon for many years, until she had to switch specialties because of orthopedic wear and tear. The chief of her residency program called her "Dr. Cunt" every single day, in front of her fellow residents (all male), and asked her stupid questions like "Are you having your period today, Dr. Cunt? Do you need a break to change your tampax?" etc. If she and other female physicians of her generation hadn't just shrugged off this crap and continued caring for patients and advancing in their careers, medical school classes today would still be skewed toward male students.
Nobody should have to "shrug off" the shit you described in that last paragraph. That's real harassment, not somebody replying to your tweets. That's really fucked up.

Except Surly Amy and Melody Hensley went after Mayhew for being 'too girly' just to get attention from boys.

The same was leveled at Miranda, ironically at the same time as me, and we couldnt be more polar opposite in terms of 'girlitude'.

Nah. In order to be "trolled," you first have to take your interlocutor seriously. I don't. Don't get me wrong, EllenBeth Wachs is crazy enough to be dangerous, but she's also hilariously easy to rile up.

And, if she's gonna say stupid shit, she's not immune to people calling her out on it. I just always enjoy it when people are caught out in the open with their hypocrisy in all its full glory for all to see. Better still when they continue to pretend the hypocrisy isn't there.

She's her own worst enemy and she has far more to lose in this game than I do.

That's a rather crude and unprofessional public comment for an organizational leader to make..... I know this will be read by the troll(s) because while I can be blocked on Twitter I can't be blocked by trolls here. An educated professional organizational leader who makes comments like an awkward immature teen who doesn't get his/her way loses credibility in the long run. What's wrong with this individual and the other cult members? There are a lot of similarities and tendencies in how they all communicate, react, the language they use, the anger, the immaturity as adults, and the careless utter lack of regard for the reputations of organizations they represent. They don't appear to love themselves, are bitter and want to blame their emotional and mental health problems and all of life's woes on something other than their own faults, weaknesses and genetic makeup. The public pleas for attention detract from the movements they so desperately purport to serve. I hope they seek the counseling they need to regain (or probably attain in some cases) their mental health.

That lot over there are beyond parody. In that thread they are discussing Hall being a pioneer. One idiot starts talking about “Pioneers get the arrows; settlers get the land.” and blah blah blah. Jadehawk immediately jumps in to spank him and send him to the naughty step because of, you know, land-theft and genocide and stuff.

I agree with you raushul but wearing that badge on your forehead, sleeve, chest, wherever - is not really apt to get you anywhere. And, if you have plans for your future that include being employed or or self-employed with clients or customers you learn what appropriate protocol is with communication tools before the tools teach you. I have empathy on a personal level, and wish they would come to their senses. These are intelligent individuals, I hate to see anyone flailing like this.

Speaking as a drummer, more women need to play the drums.

Abbie, did you see the discussion re: Zinnia Jones blog about "gender surfing"? Any thoughts on the unsupervised taking of opposite sex hormones?

Ben Radford vs PZ

WHAT fucking book? There's no real evidence for its existence, right?
Can we suggest to Ben Radford that he does a "Bigfoot"-style-debunking the existence of PZ's book, by analysing it's supposed spoors?
It would be an instant hit. Comedy Gold.

The evidence for Bigfoot and PZ's mythical novella are exactly equivalent.

I'll ask my wife for you, her first and last were twins (with three more in between) so she might know a little about it. Also, for your peace of mind, I'll refrain from mentioning how big the last two were and how long the labor took.

My videos that no one watches helped a young man reconnect with his estranged father. That's worth more to me than 10,000 views or subscribers. It's worth more to me than your opinion for certain. Now if you would kindly go fuck yourself...
I like and watch your videos.

When people try and wind me up on the internet I ignore it. Half the time they are stoned and the other half bored. Not worth bothering with.

I'm going to say big space opera, even though it's predominantly set on one planet (which would be Earth). It's veeeeeeeery definitely sci-fi of the softer variety, instead of something like what Clarke would write, I'll say that.

I'd add a little caveat, here. There's another path to success (particularly if one sells art or literature to one's clients) which involves diverse degrees of not giving a shit about social conventions and protocols, let madness define you and scandalise as many people as possible in the process. It's very risky, granted, and probably only the truly magnificent can pull it off.

What is more likely to doom you is genuine malevolence and pettiness. Sadly, we've been assisting to a significant display thereof.

No problemo; thanks for the follow-up.

But one would think that our "leaders" should be above that type of behaviour, although from a general view history tends to prove otherwise .... as the ambassador said about the Premier in Dr. Strangelove, "he's a man of the people, but still a man ...."

I think EBW simply listed the Pitters, or as she calls them, the SPhaters, who had commented over there.

Heh, ta very much. I figured it was probably best not to use asari, lest I pick up a massive lawsuit on my first book... :P

But yeah, I figured it was more sensible to tell people to PM me for links, I don't trust the verious other parties who watch the 'pit like a hawk to not hunt me down and leave a Findus Beef Lasagne in me bed (if you're British or have watched our news, you'll get that joke)...

May your sword stay wet
Like a young girl in her prime
Hold your hammers high
Rip their flesh
Burn their hearts
Stab them in the eyes
Rape their women as they cry
Kill their servants
Burn their homes
Till there's no blood left to spill
Hail and Kill
Power and dominion are taken by the will
By divine right hail and kill

That list will serve a good purpose at least.
Ironically, not for EBW¹, but for lurkers, to winnow the useless chaff (=straw, eh Chris-Clone Clarke?) from the productive seed.
For ye Rape what ye sow. (If ye planteth Canola)

Franc, I'll wager that you are semi-annoyed at not appearing on this elemental "good character" reference list!

¹ And, as for her semi-colourful legal offense history, it make me think of her as more interestingly human, and a potential Aussie! At least she is not a bland robot like Malady.
And the "impersonating" an attorney charge was entirely bogus, as she merely appended "Esq." to her name. In the real world, "Esquire" (essentially) means an owner of real estate, a fact of which the judge was quite cognisant.

I reckon a lot of them fantasise about it. Sometimes the fantasies involve porcupines, as well.
