That New Yorker article seems to be written by someone that isn't really that knowledgeable on the story and it appears that their editor wasn't looking to fact check:

Talks with Canada are continuing, and the participants are sending out hopeful signals. Trump’s interpretation of these developments is that bullying works: by threatening to pull out of nafta and impose tariffs on European cars and Canadian dairy products, he forced his adversaries to submit. Now he seems to think he can do the same thing to China.

There was no threat to put tariffs on Canadian dairy products. Canada exports a third the amount of dairy products to the US that we import from them. The dispute over dairy is as follows:
Canada has a regulated dairy market where producers are given quotas. The system is designed so that there is a stable supply that meets the demand and there isn't a problem with oversupply, farmers losing their herds because because they can't afford to feed them when they can't sell their product or get a price to cover their expenses. American producers are allowed to sell a quota into the Canadian market, but when they exceed that limit there is a steep tariff (300%) placed that excludes them from selling above that limit.
The Americans object to this, claiming that Canada is cheating because we don't have a "free" market like theirs. The problem with this, is that the American market is not a free market. Their dairy is heavily subsidized by government tax money and they are producing more than they can consume or sell while creating a market that is flooded with product that is priced at below the cost of production. They want to sell artificially low priced dairy into other markets, a practice that is known as dumping and something that other countries are not allowed to do to the US if they have an industry that is hurt by it.
Ironically, despite the subsidies, a lot of dairy farmers in the US have trouble making their expenses and are calling for a system like the Canadian one to be put in.
The tariffs that have been placed on Canada have been on aluminum and steel, the same as have been placed on Mexico and Europe on the fraudulent premise that it is a threat to national security. Trump is still threatening to put tariffs on autos from Canada.

Okay, I just started watching Humans. I like the premise and a lot else. Still, two thing bother me:
1) At least a third of the actors & extras are black. The story takes place in the UK, which is 3% black. London, where many scenes are set, is 13% black. Two of the five sentient robots, around which the story revolves, are black. The lead character is SE Asian, but good luck finding another, though there are plenty of Pakis scattered about. Do not try to tell me this was just chance, that the best actors regardless were cast. It was woke for woke's sake, and it is distracting;

2) Two of the main male characters are shifty, unswole dickheads who can't please their wives. Okay, so far (6 episodes), two out of two married men are shifty, unswole dickheads who can't please their wives;

Oh and

3) there's not enough nudity, especially considering one of the robots is incredibly hawt.

That is all.

Haha. I was a small guy in High School and it was really horrible. Nearly all the gurls ignored me because I was simultaneously nerdy and small. Even the nerdy plain looking gurls would decline my offers for a date. Then, in my first year of college I grew about 9 inches. I also realized that all these new gurls I was meeting never knew me when I was a little nerd so I started have good dating success.

I met my wife-to-be and she became determined to catch me... haha. What is funny is that I never would have picked her to date from the internet. In many ways we don't have much in common. But, it turns out that we compliment each other. I think that internet dating is probably not very good at finding those behaviors that will work between two people. She was a kind of shy burnout that smoked and got in trouble on the street. I was a science nerd who never even tried to smoke. But, we had a similar view about the world. I was so relived to finally find a woman who didn't think "everything happens for a reason." She thought it was cool that I was an atheist. And she thought I was cute in a nerdy way.

So, my 25 yo daughter is now with us at home and she is finishing the paperwork on her divorce. She has dates lined up about three times a week. Gurls can get dates on-line in a snap. She kind of agrees with me on the problems of on-line dating. She also agrees that her mom and I would never have hooked up using the modern internet stuff. She did mention that most people have too many rules about who they will date and it screws them up. You really have to get to know how someone feels about things in general... and how you communicate... and not base relationships on a list.

Well that movie where Charlton Heston played a Mexican worked out OK.

And I don't think I'd have cared if a guy had been cast for Ripley as per the original script.

Even Peter Lorre as Mr Moto, or Charles Middleton Murray as Ming the Merciless had their charms.

When the writer says that these choices are 'unacceptable' I think they are using a definition different than one I'm familiar with.
