Zaire huh?
Aka the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A place riven by corruption, cronyism, military coups, regional destabilisation through genocide, totalitarian dictatorships, exploitation of resources by international corporates, etc.
And you, doggie, want to blame the modern monetary system as described by MMT for the fuckedupedness of their currency?
Yeah, nah.
I was offered an environmental job there, about a decade ago, with a mining company. They offered to have ex-SAS as my guard. I declined.

3/4″ Plywood Standard:
March 2020 – $37.98 /sheet
February 2021 – $72.49 /sheet
March 2021 – $83.49 /sheet
April 2021 – $95.98 /sheet
252% price inflation
But the government can just print money to pay for the plywood and then add a tax to the plywood to bring down the inflation, right?

What effect does MMT have on peoples internal drive to be productive? If you create an expectation that money can be created to pay for welfare, why work? There feels like a tragedy of the commons dynamic here.

Nope.
My post contained 2 links. I prefaced one link by saying there was "PLENTY of reasons to say the Zaire story doesn't besmirch the good honor of MMT".
I prefaced the other link by calling it a FATAL BLOW to MMT in yellow highlighted all-caps.
I never doubted for a moment which link you'd reply-to and which-one you'd ignore.
You're incapable of engaging on points of actual contention.

The place where you stopped responding-to Bob Murphy's review of Kelton's MMT book-- was the sentence immediately-before this subheading:
"THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM WITH MMT
Now that we’ve set the table, we can succinctly state the fundamental problem with Kelton’s vision..."
Other subheadings to look forward to:
TOUGH QUESTIONS FOR MMT
MMT IS ACTUALLY WRONG ABOUT MONEY
Money Mistake #1: The Treasury Needs Revenue Before It Can Spend
Money Mistake #2: Taxes Don’t Prop Up Currencies
Money Mistake #3: Debt Isn’t Money
DO GOVERNMENT DEFICITS EQUAL PRIVATE SAVINGS?
THE MMT JOB GUARANTEE
"The last item I wish to discuss is the MMT job guarantee. Strictly speaking, this proposal is distinct from the general MMT framework, but in practice I believe every major MMT theorist endorses some version of it..."
CONCLUSION
" Stephanie Kelton’s new book The Deficit Myth does a very good job explaining MMT to new readers. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how many different topics Kelton could discuss from a new view, in a manner that was simultaneously absurd and yet apparently compelling. The problem is that Kelton’s fun book is utterly wrong. The boring suits with their standard accounting are correct: It actually costs something when the government spends money. The fact that since 1971 we have had an unfettered printing press doesn’t give us more options. It merely gives the Fed greater license to cause boom/bust cycles and redistribute wealth to politically connected insiders."

I responded to Zaire because I had a very little bit of spare time and it was easy to bang out.
I did quickly look at your other link and it looks very much a consequence of Government spending going into the financial economy and not the real economy. But I will look further.

I think it is really important not to confuse money and wealth.
Wealth = things you want to buy.
Money = things that have as their only value that they can be exchanged for things you actually want.
Creating money does not necessarily increase wealth in any way.
(Though I don't suppose I'll get any thanks for posting it)

Kiwi--
Previously, you claimed "There is no policy agenda implied by MMT."
Yet you describe the right-half of the policy spectrum as distinct from the left: "the policy choice (right-wing) was to target spending in the financial economy rather than the real economy (left-wing)."
And you're quick to concede that the right-half is defective, if gnawing-off your right wing lets your left wing flap away from scrutiny.
I could quibble about these 'right-wing' and 'left-wing' labels. For example-- the 'real' economy is made of a whole lotta rugged, independent MAGA hat wearing right-wing truck drivers and farmers and building construction workers. And the 'financial' economy is replete with CCP-loving regulation-happy socialism-fiends. But I accept your terminology for purposes of this discussion.
The thing I want to focus on, is-- you're again putting emphasis on that RightMMT/LeftMMT distinction:
KiwiInOz wrote: ↑it looks very much a consequence of Government spending going into the financial economy and not the real economy.
I can agree that the data matches the blue part of your statement: the govt spending went into the financial economy.
The red part of your statement is conjecture-- about something which did not happen: the govt spending Did Not go into the 'real' economy.
Like every proponent of True Communism Which Hasn't Been Tried Yet :fpig: , you can merely speculate-without-evidence about what would-have-happened if only True Leftwing MMT had been tried.
But it's intellectually dishonest for Kelton or Mitchell or you... to point at the (blue) empirical evidence as Proof that MMT theory is true... then retreat to the hypothetical (red) when the hard evidence contradicts MMT's claims.
The simple fact is: Trillions of new dollars were printed: an unprecedented printing-spree. MMT advocates lept-up & declared, 'Look! No inflation! The theories which predicted inflation-- the underlying, foundational Physics of how economies work/ according to the overwhelming consensus of 'settled science' among experts-- has been disproven!' ("Discredited" was the word you used, Kiwi.)
And now-- when the working-prototype for your super-natural cold-fusion perpetual-motion something-for-nothing zero-pollution machine has been revealed to run on plain old gasoline, farting-out the same-old inflation smoke. And all you do is namecall that machine 'rightwing!' and wave around a worth-the-paper-it's-printed-on drawing of a magical leftwing version of the same MMT machine.
Howabout a little epistemic humility, instead?

How many people are really "in love" with their "body" and/or "in love" with how they look? Most people would like to have a better looking body. But... it is hard to really workout enough to make a difference. And some things just can't be changed (like height, bone size, and face structure).
And... most people who are average looking (like me) just put up with it. I am good looking enough for my wife so everything is fine. Sure.... if I was a good looking guy I might have more sex partners... but this is not really a big deal. Being average looking means you need to find your power through some other means.
Successful people do things so they can be satisfied and have power. It is a slog. Work hard. Go to school. Put up with shit. Save some money.
Losers think they can get power by doing stupid shit. Jen is a loser. She had some instant fame and then decided she was important. Her life has been a desperate attempt to get that fame back. She is attracted to odd ways of getting power.
Does she really think she is a man?... or did her therapist, looking to help her, suggest she should cut of those big titties and act like a man? I don't know. It is all very tragic. She is no more a man than my little dog. Is there anything about her that is masculine? I am not seeing it in her looks or her behavior. This trans thing is a fucked up mess and I don't think it is helping anyone.
My daughter's boyfriend is a FTM trans man. He is the least masculine man I have ever met. Really odd. He has PTSD, and is 100 pounds overweight, gets no exercise and doesn't like any kind of sports. He is week and afraid.... and yet... somehow he thinks taking testosterone will make him happy. As a result he looks like the bearded lady.... with a tiny scruffy beard and a voice like Daffy Duck. And on top of that the testosterone makes him sick. Yeah. well. that's all I have to say. I am at the point where I will just watch as people fail... whatever... not my problem.

Being average...
Seems to me that being Average and being Weird are both viable paths to success. The average person is a commodity: For someone who wants a banana, any banana will do. The value of average bananas follows Supply & Demand. But a smurglefroot is an unknown quantity. What's it worth? What does it taste like? Who knows. A passively-weird person is valued at whatever the going-rate for Bidding On An Unknown Item is. A mystery box. But a weirdo can also be active-- market their weirdness. Turn it into a selling point. Cause themselves to be valued on a case-by-case basis-- by crafting a unique 'story' about their worth-- apart from the generic lore about average/normal/boring/reliable commodities.
Maybe the worst position to be-in... is not Average Enough to be a generic banana. But not Weird Enough to arouse curiosity?
Nope-- I take that back. Rodney Dangerfield and Marty Feldman were only a little weird. But their hard work selling-it paid off.
The worst position to be in-- is to be not-weird-enough for it to sell itself/ but too-lazy to work to sell it.
Given all-this, I think it's fair to apply 'successful people do things so they can be satisfied and have power' to superficial/trivial/cosmetic stuff... like boob jobs, and purple hair dye, and piercings, and customized-license-plate pronouns. Or to anyone who hones a narrative about their own oddity-- fetishizing their quirk.
...but forcing everyone to 'buy' what they're selling is unethical.
Losers think they can get power by doing stupid shit. Jen is a loser. She had some instant fame and then decided she was important. Her life has been a desperate attempt to get that fame back. She is attracted to odd ways of getting power.
Boobquake was a clever-enough publicity stunt. Complaining that her well-wishers paid too much attention to her boobs afterward-- was stupid.
Shitting where she ate.
Atheism Plus was an idea which captured the imagination of a sizable customer-base. But, in practice, it was like opening a restaurant staffed by cannibals.
This new venture... Atheism plus Feminism plus Testosterone... is arriving to market too-late to win Novelty points. It's a dreary Commodity, by now. It's like trying to make Fidget Spinners go viral-- again.
"...it is reasonable to put essential workers ahead of older adults, given their risks, and that they are disproportionately minorites.

Critical Theory turns the primary function of every human endeavour it infects to the propagation of Critical Theory. The virus analogy is perfect. The utter lack of evidenciary basis and it's cookie-cutter template are strengths, not weaknesses. It seamlessly hops from sphere to sphere with ease of application requiring just the substitution of a few words. I recall warning people little more than a year ago that Critical Theory and even Marxist rhetoric had already taken over swathes of public life and was influencing the Democratic Party. The response was predictable, the far right have control of the US, the left are oppressed and powerless college types, white supremacists are in the ascendancy and TRUMP! When exactly are the less melinated going to smell the coffee and refuse to be held hostage in the racial war against self-responsibility? The white man in the street is not responsible for Shalondra's decision to ignore police instructions to put the gun down, but it looks like he's going to have politicians condoning riots and mob calls to "beat dey white aath" until the police stop their persecutory prohibitions on crime. White Identity politics is not the answer. Vehemently Rejecting responsibility for identitarians and their problems with reality is a necessary step though. Politicians should not be allowed to get away with inflaming division by flagrantly overestating the problem of police racism. Not one iota of credible evidence has been provided that race was an issue in the Floyd case and yet Democrats are talking as if the conviction was proof of police racism and all policemen are Chauvin. And what's more, how has Crump not been disbarred yet?

All of that is true. But other, outside-factors-- not specific to Woke Theory-- contribute. Such as...
Many people don't know much. So they try to apply whatever they do-know... to Everything. I know people who bumbled-downward in life until a 12-step AA program was the first coherent thing they encountered. It had a profound effect on them-- and they're taught to evangelize it-- so they apply attempt to apply it as a one-size-fits-all solution to all sorts of problems.
I'm sure someone somewhere professes that Racism is an 'addiction', or there's a 12-step way to fight Covid.
I think it was James Lindsay (or Benjamin Boyce? or Pete Quinones?) who conveyed the story of a teacher who said she was a trained expert in Education, just like a doctor is a trained expert in medicine. So parents shouldn't question her expert (woke) teaching/ any-more than a patient should question a doctor's remedies. 'I don't know much about anything except Education', she admitted. Which is like a doctor who only knows about giving injections, but don't know much about what's in the needle.
Another outside-factor which aids the totalizing spread of Woke...
is the know-nothing's need to hide the gaps in what they know: AOC is often put on the spot-- asked a question on a topic she knows nothing about. Woke Talk provides her with an endless supply of Universal Filler to plug the gaps in her specific-knowledge.
Wife goes to the doctor and they come to the conclusion that Cymbalta is not working for her anymore. Doc is gonna put her on another medication.
