i first saw this guy, Ben Prestage supporting Ian Siegal. Here he is playing his Lowebow, a couple of broom handles stuck onto a cigar box body with home made pickups, one bass guitar string and two standard strings. I like how he tunes it by sticking a Sharpie under the strings. it sounds great.

Here's a coal mining song, but this ones from Barnsley not Kentucky. Kate Rusby wrote it about her grandparents. It's from her grandmothers point of view as she has to care for her husband as if he was a baby after his lungs were destroyed by coal dust. A beautiful song made even better by the fact she is talking about her own family.mikelf wrote: Love Gillian Welch. You may want to check out Patty Loveless' "Mountain Soul" albums.

Ok some acoustic blues from Rory Gallagher. First up Rory with Mark Feltham on harp playing Muddy Waters' Can't Be Satisfied. From the late '80s or early '90s.

Re: Music
Lol Bhoytony I thought I was the only person on the planet who still rated Rory RIP.
Apart from that bizzum Valerie, who melted the right-hand half of the silvery double album over her speakers back in '75, when she "borrowed" it and kinda smoked-too-much, with her pal Jenny. She was tearfully sorry, but .. .. UNFORGIVEN!
Still got Deuce, Blueprint and Against the Grain. I think my 2nd youngest bro accounted for the rest, along with the Alice Coopers and Sabs.
Tch, made me go and dig it out now. Irish Tour '74 .., there ya go. 2nd disc could be used as an ashtray. Bastard.

Re: Music
Here you go, the full length movie Irish Tour '74. I've got the DVD, Magic. Rory plays guitar. He finishes and goes to the pub and plays guitar there. He has a day off and spends it in a guitar shop playing guitar. Then he carries on with the tour playing guitar. No wonder he was fucking good.dustbubble wrote: Tch, made me go and dig it out now. As a thoroughly enjoyable experience, I can recommend driving the Causeway over Lake Pontchartrain, or Interstate 10 over the swamps west of New Orleans, while listening to early Delta blues. Best around sunrise or sunset, or if it's rainin'.
..Now there's a right ould 'un. Maybe a hundred-fifty year old? Fabled in island song and story, yer Lakes and that. We've all heared uv 'em, even if'n nobody else has.
Has bits of The Shamrock Shore, as well as Jock o'
Hazeldean as mentioned below, in the tune. Old as the hills, that one. :violin:
Wite man's blues, in its classical form.
Ye either Get It .. ur ye dinnae. Sorry, can't help there.
!Warning!:- contains linguistic objectification of the female form, plus "racial" remarks.

He would row a boat filled with moonshine from a small island near Phenix City, Al (where his still was located) to the Columbus, Ga side across the Chattahoochee River. A simple yet effective method was employed to avoid prosecution. If "Olene" saw a "revenooer" (as they were called), she would wave a dark handkerchief. If it was safe, she would wave a light-colored handkerchief.

Morris - I confess. I done it once or twice. But the muso was an Ulsterman, and the only man I've ever seeen who didn't stop playing when he fell in a campfire and his hair was smokin'. Maybe he coulda played the blues...

Phil might be interested in the 18:40 mark where the keyboard player leads his accompanists a merry dance as to the rhythm, the key, the tempo, that eh alternately teases them to potentially starting and then abandoning.Michael K Gray wrote:And now for something completely different:
