I think that the "get out" plan looks worse than the "stay" plan. My wife has been a great life partner for decades. I feel like I owe her something for this. I don't think she would take care of me the way I take care of her... but that makes no difference. I have a duty to her. I can live my life as best I can with her still in my life. In addition, I expect I would lose many friends if I separated from her. They would also think I was not doing my duty to her as she gets sick. I am sure I drink too much... but I hope it is not doing my body too much damage. I also have very little desire to try to hook up with some other woman. Every woman I know is fucking nuts. Maybe one day I will meet some amazing woman... and that would change things... but I don't think she exists.screwtape wrote: ↑I rarely say this, but it is time for you to get out. This reply of mine was met with much consternation by my wife and daughter. I am certainly a mean beast of a man. Apparently I used to be a nice person... at least according to my wife. I am no longer a nice person according to my family. Perhaps this is true... but I think I am really just put off by the pathetic behaviors of my family. General Patton, the psychiatric expert. Like a lot of his contemporaries he thought that unless you were out of your mind or exhibiting involuntary behaviours you were just a malingerer rather than genuinely psychologically incapable of enduring combat. He should have stuck to generaling and left medicine to the medics. There was some concern with the numbers of troops being lost to battle fatigue at the time which led to a less than tolerant attitude to the condition. The irony here is that Private Bennett, although in a bad mental state, had wanted to return to his unit but the medics wouldn't release him.Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 9:56 amYes, IMO, a calm yet firm refusal to engage on their terms is the best approach. NB: there were two slapping incidents a week apart. The film, which gets a lot of things wrong, combined elements of both in this scene.
Patton always had something to prove; he spoke openly about it. He felt he needed to inspire the troops with bravado and tough talk -- with mixed results. I believe that was projection. Two of his subordinates, Truscott and de la Mesa, were able to lead and inspire in a low-key way.
Eisenhower didn't have much talent to draw on for army commanders. Patton understood mobile warfare, but was erratic. Clark was a golden boy who turned out to be mediocre at best -- and a narcissist. Ike eventually went with Bradley, who was businesslike. But Bradley was also a real pissant, vindictive, petty, and ground through subordinates like hamburger.
Patton missed his true calling: leading a Panzerkorps.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Well now, I think that really depends on what you think the programme of the political left actually is. There is a long history of antipathy to nationalism and nations. The various Internationals have been working on some form of globalism for a long, long time. That project seems to be going well. They have been against organized religion for centuries also. They believe in centralizing power in an anti-democratic intellectual and moral elite. They don't believe in fairness in the sense of justice being blind etc.... they believe in people who are on the right side of history putting their finger on the scale to get the right result. All this stuff seems to be happening.MarcusAu wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 2:56 pmSounds like this international consortium would have been calling themselves something else - as this time frame seems to be pushing things back to almost before there was a political 'left'.fafnir wrote: ↑ An alternative thesis is that having pushed things as far as they can, they just have to hold it long enough for the culture to catch up and for it to be the new normal. They absolutely aren't interested in the world their marginalized serfs hope for. The revolution has always been about achieving the utopian power fantasies of university professors, their radicalized students, bureaucrats and billionaires. We are the Kulaks who are preventing their ideas from working.
It feels like there is an assumption that if these trends favour the international ruling elite then the left is losing. Is it? Which left?
Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Who exactly?
Going back to pre 1776 times - I'd have thought that amongst the various ruling elites, it would be fairly widespread to consider yourself superior to just about everyone else. I doubt that many of them would have been interested in sharing power in a true democratic fashion either.
So...international and anti-organised religion...hmm...would it be the Illuminati you are thinking of?

The archetypal brilliant general is exceptionally rare so Eisenhower was probably no worse off than any other in his position. Grinding through subordinates like a hamburger was Marshall's policy. It was understood that you had a very limited time to achieve objectives or get canned if you didn't. It was also recognised that being fired didn't necessarily reflect on your abilities. Eisenhower used Patton wisely. He kept him out of it until a rapid advance through France was possible. Eisenhower knew Patton's defensive capabilities were shite but he was good at keeping offensive momentum. Patton was one of those characters Victor Davis Hanson puts in a category with Shane or Trump. You roll them out in extreme circumstances but when the jobs done you dump them and spray air freshener. I'm surprised generals don't get fragged. I know guys whose sights passed across officers during live fire exercises and they actually thought about it. If you can frag a lieutenant or corporal why not a general?Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 7:02 pmOf course, those shrinks weren't much better, misdiagnosing iirc malaria as a mental breakdown.ThreeFlangedJavis wrote: ↑ General Patton, the psychiatric expert. Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Marxists, anarchists, Fabians.... people who inherited their world view from JJ Rousseau.
They weren't really selling themselves on being democratic, so I'm not sure it was a failure. As to whether they considered themselves superior, I really don't know. I did read a thesis recently saying that one downside of meritocratic systems is that the people at the top feel themselves better and more entitled than the people at the bottom. Did Charles II of Spain think he was better than his straight jawed gardener? In what sense? Did he feel more superior and entitled than Nancy Pelosi feels to you or me? I'm not sure that the world has actually changed that much. There have always been non-ruling classes that the king would ally himself with or against to secure power.... the barons, the clergy, the merchants, the army. In our current time, allowing the public the choice between two groups of representatives of the elites is the method by which power is maintained.MarcusAu wrote: ↑Going back to pre 1776 times - I'd have thought that amongst the various ruling elites, it would be fairly widespread to consider yourself superior to just about everyone else. No. Have you never read any leftwing writing? Marx, and Trotsky were both internationalists. The pacifist vegetarians around Shaw and Russell were internationalists. The left's utopia is internationalist. Even if we put Marxists to the side, you have the period towards the end of the 19th century where the idea was there would be no more wars because commerce was becoming more international and why would you have a war with somebody you were doing all this profitable trading with? The EU and the Euro are supposed to be guaranteeing peace for the same sorts of reasons.
Look at it from the perspective of Sowell. Internationalism is the unconstrained vision, nationalism is the constrained vision. Fundamentally nations, and national difference, are a hindrance to the unconstrained vision. I don't see the unconstrained globalism of Klaus Schwab getting pushed back much. I also don't see the practical difference between the endpoint that Schwab is heading for vs Trotsky. The PR is different, but both of them are/were going for totalizing visions where power is held by an international elite and operated according to an elite vision which is for everybody's good, even if most people don't want it.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Allied generalship in the Mediterranean ranged from excellent (Hewitt), to good (Montgomery, Patton), to awful (Clarke, Tedder), to worthless (Alexander). Eisenhower himself was in way over his head. Planning was disjointed, naive, and pedestrian. In execution, the few glorified exploits were rare among the more common stalls and failures. Had they not been up against Vichy French, Italians, and severely understrength Germans, the Allies would have come to ruin. As it was, the campaign was disappointing.ThreeFlangedJavis wrote: ↑ The archetypal brilliant general is exceptionally rare so Eisenhower was probably no worse off than any other in his position.
Marshall cleared a lot of dead wood, replacing it with younger men showing promise. He knew not all of them would pan out. Bradley fired guys for swearing, drinking, or not attending chapel. If you got past that, he'd fire you for your first mistake. His staff and line officers were afraid to take any risks.Grinding through subordinates like a hamburger was Marshall's policy. It was understood that you had a very limited time to achieve objectives or get canned if you didn't. It was also recognised that being fired didn't necessarily reflect on your abilities.

Well, I would agree with your opinion but for one glaring problem - I have witnessed first-hand how badly a psycho chick can ruin a dude and destroy his life. Early in my career, I jumped around with a small tightly-knit group of friends, all of a similar rank (Trooper/Private and Lance Jacks) and we were fairly similar in outlook - work hard, play hard, fight it or fuck it.
One of our number, a trooper with about 6 months seniority on me, returned from leave with a wife in tow. Completely out of the blue, he'd never spoken about her or hinted that he had a serious GF. Anyway, he moved off camp and into his MQ (married quarter - Army slang for a MQ is "pad" - the term even appears in military documentation) and after a few weeks, it became very apparent who wore the trousers in their relationship! No beers with the guys, no "sports" (chasing tail), fuck all. He would come into work, do his graft then vanish back to his pad.
This might seem to be pretty standard for a married guy but for one slight problem - every time they appeared in public (mess functions, random boozer encounters or whatnot), she would get very drunk, loud and obnoxious, he wasn't allowed to touch a drop and used the "I'm driving" line whenever pressed on the subject.
This is where the "crazy" part comes in. Not only was she an insufferable arsehole, doubly so when wasted, she was quite blatantly desperate for cock, any cock, and didn't care if our mate seen her slobbering all over random blokes. Now, I should point something out - our friend was something of a lady-killer before she appeared on the scene, was harder than a pickup truck full of ninja and rarely endured any form of insult or indignation. However, when it came to her drunken antics, he would simply shake his head, roll his eyes and shrug. We tried speaking to him at work, the possibility of them being swingers was raised, he instantly got extremely angry and denied the suggestion before threatening to "kick off" with anyone who mentioned it again.
Fast forward about two years, they divorced after saturation point had been reached - she had banged her way through half the garrison, given our friend several STD's, clocked up an outrageous level of debt (which he was left to deal with) and pretty much destroyed his promotion prospects. Sadly, a year after they split, he "signed off" (gave his years notice to leave the Army) then disappeared into a bottle as he ran down the clock. Last I heard, he was homeless in London.
Now, you'd imagine this is where my rant ends...but not so. There are many, many examples of her drunken (and sober) antics that play a part in this sorry tale. A few less egregious examples:
1) During a summer ball (very formal event, all in best spit/polish, best behaviour, all ranks present), she got wasted, stripped bollock naked in the toilets then "streaked" the dance-floor. 500+ members of the Regiment (including the commanding officer, adjutant, RSM etc) watched as she was wrestled to the floor by the Regimental Police, had a curtain thrown over her then strong-armed out of the venue. Whilst this was happening, she was hurling abuse at everyone and cackling like a mental case.
2) Took part in a "train" with a bunch of grunts in the local nightclub toilets. Several videos and a fuck-ton of pictures were taken which she kept on her own fucking mobile phone and would constantly offer to show/send to anyone remotely interested.
3) Stabbed my mate in the neck and shoulder with a pair of scissors. What did he do to warrant the attack? He didn't want to drive her around town so she could get wankered and hump some random dudes. So she stabbed him. Oh, and he was arrested by the MP's because he swore at them when they turned up at his pad. That little scenario cost him about £3k in charges and halted his career in its tracks.
4) She propositioned me. In front of my (then) wife. Very loudly. My wife, bless her little cotton socks, kicked her around like an empty coke can then proceeded to accuse me of all sorts. It took me weeks to convince her of my innocence. Thankfully several other wives/GF's knew how much I hated the psycho bitch and helped to talk my wife down.
I could go on but...
Anyway, this is just one example, I know about a dozen others who've ruined the lives/careers of decent blokes. Also, I can honestly say I don't know of anyone who has managed to have a lasting relationship with a psycho twat. Personally, I've only ever been with two real nutters but both were discarded in record time!
Yup, I'm sticking to my guns: never stick your dick in crazy!

You enjoy the touch and go's of the FA-18's at the OLF Coupeville? We stayed once in Coupville last year when house-hunting and it was neat the first few times, but when they go late into the night and you are under the flight pattern it gets a bit much.Lsuoma wrote: ↑ Metro Seattle is still kinda OK outside the downtown core, but even so, we have a long-term bolthole on Whidbey Island, and I'm about to buy a five-acre parcel of land for self-sufficiency.

Thankfully we landed on the south end so it is a dull roar at this distance.
Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
We are just far south enough that we don't hear the regular T 'n' G at OLF. We are in Freeland, and occasionally we hear them (1-2x per year).
There are lawsuits out from people who live in Admiral's Cove (2-3 miles S of the OLF), and also Ledgewood (a bit further south). The furthest south people report regular noise is Greenbank, IIRC.

I get T-38s overhead, an an occasional U-2. The latter make my dog hide.
The flight pattern for the fire planes frequently go right over me. S-2 tankers and OV-10 spotters mostly, but lots of VLATs with these huge fires. All your typical passenger airliners, plus now some military transport. The Aussies are lending us one of theirs. Also Blackhawks, Chinooks, and Hueys.

I've gotten pretty good at figuring out where a fire is by their course and altitude. Which is why a couple weeks ago, I just started loading the truck, grabbed the dog, and left. Fire was two miles up the road.

Ah, so you're seeing all the container ships coming in and out of Holmes Harbor, then? One of the VPs I worked for at Amazon has a place on Honeymoon bay, and they anchor about 100yds from there. Sometimes there are four there, all at the same time, and they run their generators 24x7, and are lit up like Xmas trees.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Elyse was raped five times every week, three of those by the same masked man hiding in the same bush by her driveway. Elyse would stay out five nights a week until morning, then cry and hug her two children saying, "mommy got raped again last night." This was while Elyse was editor of Becky Watson's Grounded Parents blog.
Then she admitted she was out with boyfriends, not masked rapists, cuz she was poly. And Anders had to accept that because she was the most amazing, formerly 400lb, alcoholic wife who torments you just like your sadistic mother did, evah. This revelation came after she got arrested at the hospital for trashing the rape kit they tried to administer and fighting with the nurses. And Anders got arrested too for defending her honor by fighting with the cops when they arrived.
Then she admitted her boyfriends were johns, not boyfriends, cuz she wuz a ho. And Anders had to accept that because he was a worthless, unemployed sack of shit who never did anything around the house and someone had to pay the bills and buy all the groceries and Vicodin and pallets of box wine.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
That's us, west facing in Holmes Harbor. They've been backlogged out there since February from what I've heard. Durations seem to be 1 week before they leave and a new one replaces it. I can't imagine how these container ships being this backlogged has affected our inflation and all the material shorting that the country is facing, but it can't be good. I hear that the ports in CA are just as backlogged. Stuff is out there it just can't get unloaded fast enough to meet our demands.Lsuoma wrote: ↑ Ah, so you're seeing all the container ships coming in and out of Holmes Harbor, then? One of the VPs I worked for at Amazon has a place on Honeymoon bay, and they anchor about 100yds from there. Sometimes there are four there, all at the same time, and they run their generators 24x7, and are lit up like Xmas trees.

Ah, one of the rape-obsessed clique? They're a curious bunch but certainly not the type of person I'd ever want to rub shoulders with.Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑Elyse was raped five times every week, three of those by the same masked man hiding in the same bush by her driveway. Elyse would stay out five nights a week until morning, then cry and hug her two children saying, "mommy got raped again last night." This was while Elyse was editor of Becky Watson's Grounded Parents blog.
Ho's gotta ho and cucks gotta cuck. Anders, assuming he's her husband/BF, sounds like a spineless wimp - weak and utterly deserving of the misery he inflicts upon himself. If it's not already happened, he'll probably end up in the same state as the guy I mentioned earlier.Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑Then she admitted she was out with boyfriends, not masked rapists, cuz she was poly. Beating the dead horse that is Elyse, I'm sure I remember her being linked to shit - scat-porn, shitting herself or something along those lines. There's a definite connection there although it may just be my misfiring noggin.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Had a very productive chat with the old lady last night. She told me she wants to move into a separate bedroom. At first I thought this was a bad idea.... but now I am thinking it sounds great. This allows me to take care of her, but not be a victim of her bitching quite so often. We have a split level house, so she can exist in the bottom level while I exist in the upper level.
I thought she might be really angry about this whole thing, but this morning she politely asked me to put lotion on her back and we discussed having BLTs for dinner. Hmmmm. I think this can work.
It also looks like she has been approved for Social Security disability payments. It took months of filling out papers and going to government doctors. An extra $900 a month will help us afford her dental work.
On the subject of Norm. Here is my favorite Norm joke...

Leeds, glimpses of offensive sexy ankle, the natural assumption is obvious. But probably wrong. The picture you get of the Gorse Academies Trust from their web presence is quite impressive. No anti-intellectualism, focus on maximising students potential and discipline. The kid needs to put on a pair of socks and ditch the skin tight stuff rather than telling the school how to run. If that's how they maintain standards then that's what you adhere to. Whenever I see news items like this I wonder just how much of a precocious, mouthy tart the kid is. I know the common perception of boarding schools and highly disciplined schools is that they produce mindless slaves to the system. The opposite is true in my experience. Graduates often go wild for the first few years of freedom but they do so willing to take the consequences of the shit they get up to because they understand responsibility and consequence.Bhurzum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 1:49 amhttps://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/leeds ... n-21581172School orders girl, 13, to change uniform because her ankles ‘could distract teachers’

Norms famous moth joke reminds me of one of my favorite jokes about a pig with a wooden leg. Basically.... the setup is that someone comes up to a farm house and notices a pig with a wooden leg. The visitor needs to use the phone or something... so they can get help.... but they have to ask why the pig has a wooden leg. The farmer explains over and over again about how great the pig is.... the pig saved his house from burning... the pig delivered his first born... etc. Finally the visitor asks... "Okay.... but why does the pig have a wooden leg!!!???" and the farmer says... "Well... you can't eat a pig that good all at once!"

She instagrammed herself on the porcelain throne taking a dump.
She also posted a pic of herself puking up red wine. That was after the post of a bottle of Vicodin next to a box of Franzia. She's had Bariatric surgery cuz she had been a whale, so there's no place for 5L of wine to go.
Anders was cuck of all cucks going into the relationship. To add insult to injury, he was a chubby chaser and his wife shed 250 lbs, started posting 'sexy' pix of her left over elephant skin, then pix of her 'boyfriends', who all looked like thirty-somethings who are still into D&D. There's money to be made in 'I'm into Polyhedral AND Polyamory' swag.

She also would tweet about sharts, which seemed to be a regular part of her daily routine.
I dunno, maybe that was to please one of her 'patrons' who was into rides on the Cleveland Steamer Express.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Wife: "What book are you reading in Audible.... Irreversible Damage... what's that"?
Me: "Yeah... this is the book written by that women we heard an interview with... about sex reassignment... and how it goes wrong."
Wife: ""well, it sounds so mean... like you are reading something terrible."
Me: "It is terrible. Did you know that staying for two years on puberty blockers makes these girls sterile? Doctors pretend that puberty blockers are temporary.... they say that these girls can just pick their sex after they are on blockers. What really happens is that these girls are sterile and they lose their normal sexual development."
Wife: "Well... that can't be right. Surely, if this were happening, it would be all over the news. I would hear about it."
Ahhhh.... the joys of the ignorant.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Idaho has the lowest ICU bed per capita in the country. St. Luke's has lost a ton of nursing staff who won't submit to the jab. Hospitals are also admitting people with mild or even no symptoms, just reported shortness of breath:
https://www.theatlantiac.com/health/arc ... ng/620062/
It's part mismanagement, part hospital greed, part convenient excuse to pressure folks to get vaxxed. It's eminently resolvable by several other means.

Re: Steerzing in a New Direction...
Biden admin promises to increase supply of monoclonal drugs by 50%, then cuts distribution in half to the states using it the most, including Florida:

DeSantis just announced, fuck it, we'll source the shit ourselves:

What is notable about this effort so far is that no effort is being devoted, as least so far as one can find, to developing therapeutics to help reduce the impact on hospitals. Instead, whenever anything is proposed to alleviate the symptoms of the Wuhan virus and speed recovery, the medical establishment and the public health “community” react to it very much like a vampire reacts to a crucifix and holy water. This has gone so far as state regulatory agencies forbidding pharmacies to fill prescriptions for ivermectin issued by physicians.
One would think that having a therapeutic, that was proven safe and effective in reducing hospital stays or allowing outpatient treatment would be a good thing. One would think that a governor promoting such a treatment, and providing it for free, would be celebrated. But that would mean you wanted to actually mitigate the effects of the Wuhan virus and save lives and not try to sow panic to increase the power of government.

Ivermectin has tripled in price, now $7.49 a tube at Valley Vet.
